I just did this in 2 minutes with the help of the video. My new to me 6" Dob looked pretty good last night at the moon and Saturn. I cannot wait to see tonight with everything aligned now. I ordered the same one from Amazon. Thanks.
would you recommend it? i want to get it because its the best and cheapest dob i can find and i live in canada so apertura is not available here. What did you see with it?
@@notarobloxplayer993 sorry I just saw this. It seems to be well made. I would buy again. It helped clean up the look of the stars. Less asterisk looking now.
Hi there I've also just purchased some scope and trying to understand collimation I need to buy that laser eye makes it much easier Thank you ❤manchester
Hi, really helpful video so thanks! One question, I can move the red do up & down but I need to move it to the right to get it inside the circle and am really struggling - any tips?! Thanks 🙏
Thanks for the video. Just bought the same scope, so it helped a lot. I could hardly hear what you were saying though, due to the unnecessary 'music'. To be fair, the music did stop when you were talking about the detail. Much appreciated. Just collimated now. Easy when you get help 😄
You slacken a locking nuts to allow movement of the adjusting screw, then, once the adjustment screw is adjusted correctly, tighten up (not too tight) the locking nut. 😄
I have done this for the first time today. I think it worked👌. At first i made a mistake by unscrewing the secondairy mirror to mutch, and turned it. I hope by doing the collimation its at the right place now😅
I though in the skywatcher manual it states that the skinny screws are for collimation/tilting and the fatter round ones with springs are for locking, can you confirm?
The secondary mirror cannot be collimated with a laser! If it rotates in two planes, it will target the center of the primary mirror, but it won't be anywhere near the line it should be. Therefore, it is collimated through a small opening on the "cap with a hole in the middle", or on a hand collimator so that all three primary holders are visible. Another problem with the laser is that it "wobbles" a little in the focuser, so depending on how it is positioned and how we clamp it, it hits different points on the primary mirror. Only the primary mirror can be collimated with a laser (after manual collimation of the secondary), but even then only after we clamp it in the focuser so that it hits the center of the primary. Unfortunately, it would be easier if it wasn't like that, but who asks us...
I believe when it comes to collimating the laser it’s a similar method with collimating the telescope, Scroll to the bottom of this website, www.cloudynights.com/articles/cat/articles/how-to/how-to-collimate-a-laser-collimator-r509 , this seemed to be quite helpful :)
If I could add one tip for your UA-cam channel if you really want to grab the hook and attention of your viewer’s do what Astrobiscut does and show how to shoot certain things, give tips to viewers, and get creative with what your shooting. You have really good scopes and gear so it shouldn’t be hard. Very hood channel though!!!
Straight to the point and well explained. Nice one
Thank you for the first video I've been able to understand.
Clear, concise, and easy to hear you. Thank you for this video
no kidding...i find it confusing too. the subject

Thanks. But how can uou be sure the secondary is correctly aligned with the focuser ?
thank you very much. So easy to understand from you
Thankyou :)
How often do you need to do it? And will it need doing straight away after buying?
so you dont touch the locking nuts just the adjusting screws yes ?

Excellent video and exactly what we needed. Thank you!!
cheers for the feedback mate 👌

good luck mate :)
Is there anything u do if the dot isn’t showing up on the target?
Thanks bro that was a fantastic video

This is true, I believe i mentioned this in my video, I may have gotten this wrong either way your correct

My laser dot of massive and not small and sharp?
saludo amigo soy de panama
presuming the collimator is also inline already!!!
What about the collimation of laser itself they do also need collimation other wise a disaster

I really like the video, but is there a way to collimate without any tools?
I believe you can do it by using a star but i’ve never really tried to, using the laser just makes life a lot easier
@@ASTR0FILMS Ok, I will try on star. Thanks!
