  • As the sun sets on the sandy shores of Malibu, one might expect to see luxury beachfront mansions and the glitz and glamour that the world associates with this famed California town. However, just steps away from the opulent Malibu Country Mart, a shocking contrast presents itself in the form of a crazy homeless encampment.
Amidst the palm trees and ocean breeze, men and women with all of their belongings stuffed into shopping carts and battered suitcases huddle in tents, makeshift shelters, and on the streets. The juxtaposition is jarring - just blocks away, some of the most wealthy and famous individuals in the world live in sprawling estates, while just steps away, members of the community struggle to survive without a roof over their heads.
This disturbing scene is not unique to Malibu, but rather a heartbreaking reality that plagues the entire Los Angeles County. Despite its reputation as a land of opportunity and prosperity, the homelessness crisis in LA is devastating, with a staggering population of over 66,000 individuals experiencing homelessness on any given night.

Thank you for showing us. I know what it's like to get close to capture this stuff. It's scary. My biggest issue is WHY are they so messy? Why is there so much trash? They have to go out and get food, right? So why don't they take the trash out. I'm just saying it's a way of life, whether they're in a home or out there.
I live in a van. I keep it nice. I never park anywhere longer than 2 nights. I work. I'm not on any benefits. I don't leave trash, I pick it up. Times are tough. That doesn't mean you have to have no principles.

My first podcast 5 years ago was about Van Life in Santa Monica. I’ve done it myself and my family was evicted in my late teens so I know the struggle… but I totally agree it needs to be as clean and orderly as possible, and always kept safe for the public.

What makes you comfortable exposing the way in which someone survives without offering genuine perspective or assistance ?

Everyone turns a blind eye to it.

Malibu, Beverly Hills and other place WILL start having the same problem as other cities IF
THERE CITY COUNCIL GOES SOFT! That's the whole problem! Activists tries the "shame"
city council with bad publicity, so council gives in and BAM! Homeless out of control! No,
Don't give in! There were laws on books before homeless that has nothing to do with homeless,
race, immigration...but the law was there to keep, maintain and have a descent living style!
Don't give in to activist, advocacy groups, NEWS MEDIA bullying!

Malibu has at least two major homeless encampments that are being ignored, especially a large hidden one near all of the retail at Legacy Park in the large shrubs.
