As a miniatures artist who deals in all doll scales, I can say that there can be a lot of grey area when it comes to dolls simply because oftentimes, their bodies are not proportioned properly. Barbie is a great example, with her tiny hands and feet in comparison to the rest of her body. Her hands are more of a 1/8 scale, but her body and head is more 1/6. And then Ken’s hands are huge, so a drink that looks great scalewise for her looks too small for him. There is such a wide range of dolls that fall into each scale category that are really very different in size. An example would be a slim Tonner Tyler doll vs a 1/4 BJD, with much larger head and hands. And 1/3 gets even trickier....for example a smaller BJD SD, like a 54cm-60cm doll, might work with well with certain accessories that would look small in the hands of a 65-70cm doll.

I’m new to doll collecting. This was very helpful. What age would you put blythe dolls? To scale it looks like she was meant to be a young woman from between 18-25. Of course I know customizing can change it up. Just curious tho based on scaling to age.

Would it not be GREAT if every seller used the same scale!??? (yes, most do) And if the scale covered the width/type of the doll also!?? Wouldn't 1/2 be Patty Playpal, 36" to 38" Barbies and Disney Princesses? But then again, maybe 1s? Since Life (or My) Sized?
I think you're right, those My Size dolls and Playpal types would be 1/2 scale. I have a My Size Barbie too, I should have whipped her out for this demonstration! Thank you for watching 💜
@@MunecasPoupeesDolls IMO Patty Playpal would be 'full size' since she is a child and the same size as a 4-6 y/o. I got (one of) mine when I was that size.
My BJD is only about nine and one half inches (Monster High) with many joints, she's perfect for me, however I'm having a difficult time finding wigs, shoes, clothes, I've been making some clothes and accessories. Her head is not large like that of a Monster High. She is well proportioned in my opinion, very tiny, even her individual fingers move. Her designer is Eneha Fedor Dolls from Russia. Any help in a direction would be so appreciated as I am new to BJD, though I have always wanted one, as a child I grew up with Betsy Mccall dolls, and Janson Doll, The Janson was a lot like Barbara. I Totally love watching you, my favorites are when you unBox the PoPovy Sisters I think is their names. Thank you so much for your time in creating such wonderful videos and your guidance in the Doll Realm. Sincerely Belinda
Thank you so much for the channel love! I have not heard of those dolls before so I'm not sure where good accessories would be found, would she be too thin for Skipper sized clothes?
Muñecas, Poupees, and Dolls Thank you for your response. I’m not sure, but I’m looking for more adult clothing. I’m crocheting as we speak. I’ll figure out how to make my own wigs eventually. Have a wonderful day ♥️
Quick question, I am buying some furniture for 6 inch BJD dolls, am I buying 1/6 or 1/12 furniture? 1/12 seems kinds small. Barbie is tall but the BJD's are thicker, bigger heads. Which would you choose?
So 1/7 would mean 1 inch = 7 real life inches. Barbie is 11.5 inches tall, which would mean at 1/7 she would be 80.5 inches tall, which would be 6 foot 8.5 inches tall, so I don't really think 1/7 fits her very well. 1/6 makes more sense at 69 inches tall in real life, which would be 5 foot 9 inches tall.
Was trying to buy a doll hat for a Paolo Reina Las Amigas doll (will she be able to share it with a Wellie Wisher and a Disney toddler?), and confused about what size to get... googling brought me your video! Thanks for making it! I am still confused probably because of that issue of non-proportionality for Blythe.. The hat sizes are listed as : "for 1/2bjd" and "1/4bjd" and "1/6bjd" and "for Blythe"... should I get the "for Blythe" hat size for Paolo Reina and Wellie wishers? How about sunglasses? Do you happen to know whether Blythe's face size will be similar to Paolo Reina Las Amigas face size or Wellie Wishers for sunglasses??? (should I go with 1/4bjd or should I go with "blythe" size")?
The Amigas are closest to Wellie Wishers size... that's the bad thing about proportions when it comes to dolls....they may be on the right height range but the proportions will make things harder. A Paola Reina doll has around an 8" head if I'm remembering correctly, so I would ask the hat maker what size the head is. Blythe's head is around the same size as an American Girl doll so that hat would be too big.
Hey there, I actually found this video because I was trying to find out if 1/3bjd clothes or accessories would fit Gotz Happy Kidz. Do you happen to know?
@@MunecasPoupeesDolls Thanks :) I was just curious because they're slimmer than AG by a bit but certainly not the same build as the 1/3 in this video but the accessories, I didn't think about that, that could work :)
Scale Equation Timestamps:
1/12: 2:01
1/8: 4:47
1/6: 6:58
1/4: 13:11
1/3: 16:53

Have a wonderful day ♥️
The cyclops doll is super cute 🤗
Thank you! She's by Villitunes 💜
Thank you so much for the information. Iwas curious about the different sizes. I love math as well. :)

Quick question, I am buying some furniture for 6 inch BJD dolls, am I buying 1/6 or 1/12 furniture? 1/12 seems kinds small. Barbie is tall but the BJD's are thicker, bigger heads. Which would you choose?
I'd go 1/6 - most of my 6 inch dolls are around 1/8 scale so it's better to scale up
@@MunecasPoupeesDolls Thank you
What scale would fit on Disney Animator dolls?
They are tricky because they're chunky but shorter than AG. I would probably consider them 1/4 if I had to nail one down. Thank you for watching!
@@MunecasPoupeesDolls Wow, thanks for the quick reply! Love the channel. Thanks I'll try 1/4.
Thank you so much!! Very clear!!
Wouldn't barbie be 1/7 scale, her height would make much more sense in that scale and it does exist in plenty of dolls.
This is fantastic! Thank you!
Thanks for watching 💜
Helena Bonham Carter, the actress, should be a Blythe doll.
Ooooo yes.
This video taught me so much.
Yay!! I hope it was helpful 💜
Hello! I tried to locate her on your channel but couldn’t, what’s the name of the 1/12 one eyed doll?

The accessories should be fine scale wise but I think they wear AG sized clothesm
@@MunecasPoupeesDolls Thanks :) I was just curious because they're slimmer than AG by a bit but certainly not the same build as the 1/3 in this video but the accessories, I didn't think about that, that could work :)
I have dyscalculia but your dolls are beautiful😢😢😢
Thanks so much for sharing, this helps greatly.
So helpful!! Thank you!!
Thanks 👍🏻
What scale do you think the Kelly dolls from the Mattel line are? The old ones; not the new Chelsea.
