I would say my favorite part of Makoto is the duality of her temperament. One of my favorite characteristics in a girl, real or fictional, is being able to display good mannerisms in public, while still maintaining a casual private demeanor. There is hardly a greater disparity in personality present in any other character, other than maybe Haru. When I think of Makoto, strangely enough, one trait that pops into my head a lot is _serene._ She's kind of hard to like at the beginning of the game, but she starts standing in the spotlight more as time goes on, becoming better characterized up to her Awakening. That's what I'm talking about with duality; she has her regular, dorky and smart teenage girl personality, and the calculating, cold, vengeful Queen under the surface. One of my favorite moments involving her was on the Hawaii trip when she invites you out for a stroll on the beach. The two of you enjoy the late afternoon, getting a heaping pile of shrimp from an enthusiastic local, lol. Then the two of you sit down on a lonely bench to end the evening. When sitting next to her, you're both bathed in the setting sun's light, and she has a little smile on her face while blushing. In a lot of parts of the game, her smile can come across as smug, taunting, amused, or just plain happy. But, in that scene, I kid you not, when she was smiling like that it kind of felt like my breath was taken away. She looked so... serene, content, and graceful. I sat there for a minute or two, committing the scene to memory. Same thing happened again a few weeks ago when I was playing P5 Royal. I got to the Hawaii scene again, and I chose to accept her invitation again (you can still do it if you haven't romanced her yet because of an obstacle in her Confidant). At that point in the game, I was debating whether I was gonna romance her, or the new female character, Kasumi. Kasumi was proving to be a cheerful, bubbly, and graceful character, and later interactions only reinforced that. But, going through that scene again, watching Makoto bask in the sunlight and remembering why I chose her in the first place, I made my decision. I was gonna go down her romance path, _again._ Still haven't regret my decision! So, uh, yeah! There's my long-winded and kind of confusing reason for why I really like Makoto!
I just thought of the same thing, i had some REAL trouble deciding on which character i liked more, between futaba and makoto... In my first playthrough, i romanced futaba because i wasn't able to get the full Makoto-relationship potential, like the beach scenes and all that, however, quite recently, and once i romanced makoto, I was left sitting there like, "do i like futaba over makoto or the other way around?" But i guess i just have to wait until i get the full makoto-romance experience from its events and all that you said earlier is really similar to why i think i like makoto over futaba, but idk yet...

I'm noticing a pattern here. Small chest, dark hair, red eyes has come up three times now (Makoto, Kaguya and Megumin, though Makoto doesn't qualify for FiJ) and all three are absolutely top tier waifus. Or maybe this is just my own preferences.
OK let me run by the checklist here: Has Red eyes check! Knows martial arts check! Is the student body president check! Has a dope a** motorcycle as a persona check! I am so glad I made makoto my Waifu in my 1st run of persona 5 OG because I love this girl so much.
Of all the girls in the Persona series (FEMC not withstanding) I think Makoto is honestly my favourite and I think it's because she probably the layered character in the series thus far embodying multiple character traits that either compliment each other or provide contrast and making her seem more human and far more relatable. She's a genius, who is prone to acting impulsive, she's a girl who thinks a lot about her future but is shy when it comes to pursuing whom she wants to share it with, she wants to help people and gets badly hurt when it seems half the game is against her. And of course, like all best girls in this series she has those soft red eyes.
I don't remember where I heard it, but I recall developer notes saying they planned more confidants/party members but cut them down due to plot pacing. The character traits and purposes were, for the most part, rolled into Makoto's character. I think it's why she feels more "complete" than a lot of the other characters.
Here's a little bit of trivia, Makoto's Metaverse outfit, especially her scarf, can be seen as a reference to Kamen Rider, especially those from the tokusatsu Showa Period. The reference is heightened further by Johanna's motorcycle appearance. "Rider" is also one of the suggested nicknames for her. Makoto also shares the pronunciation of her given name with Makoto Fukami from Kamen Rider Ghost.
It’s funny just how out of all the P5 girls, the games not-so-subtly ship Makoto with Joker the most. Her first Confidant event is effectively a date, she gets asked multiple times within the actual story of the games if they’re dating and both of them are often paired together when the team splits up.
Not to mention how often they match. Many of their outfits across multiple game share color schemes and the nature of their weapons are rather similar.
She also just feels like Joker's equal in a lot of ways. She often leads the team more than he does, she's smarter than him and just as dangerous (and we all know a real man wants a girl who can beat him mentally and physically right?) The two of them just feel like the mom and dad of the Phantom Thieves.
Tactica and Strikers legit just assume you have the two in a relationship barring some bits here and there. Her date in Strikers is the only one that acknowledges is a date, they essentially play mom and dad for the group and Akane, and her last gift in the game is the most romantic coded, meanwhile Tactica has Toshiro and Eri just repeat what they went through. Like I’m pretty sure Atlus just hardcore ships those two tbh,
Makoto feels like a genuine partner, a full equal. The fact that she’s unofficially the second-in-command of the Thieves only makes her more feel like the intended main romance choice. People call her boring, but they’re mistaking that for the fact that she’s the most put-together. While everyone else is trying to recover from some terrible trauma inflicted upon them, Makoto’s arc is more about her finding her own place in the world. She’s ultimately her own motivator, which makes the romance with Joker feel more like a partnership than a potential dependency.
One feature about Makoto I think haters don't get is how much more down to earth she is compared to the other P5 waifu. She's not an heiress who tries to be unique by wearing pink floofy cardigans, she's also not a mukokuseki with platinum blonde fully body hair. And she's not a long-legged shut up in who's hair dye, and weight are somehow not abyssmal despite not properly taking care of herself for 2 years. Aside from her eye color Makoto looks like a regular girl and it's entirely possible someone her age is decent at cooking, is smart, and despite being a waif can throw down to varying degrees thanks to aikidou which police officers in the east do learn.
Agreed. It's a distinctive point about Makoto that makes her very different to say... Mitsuru from Persona 3. In P3 Mitsuru is depicted as an ice queen with a warm heart deep down but Makoto is depicted as someone who genuinely wants to connect with others while trying to help them and she really shows a certain vulnerability the other girls don't normally. Q2 kind of highlights this when the 2 interact and Makoto is super modest and even a little bit shy about the fact she really admires Mitsuru.

When picking a girl to romance in P5, I was having a tough time deciding between Makoto & Ann. Makoto won out in the end cause, after some in depth thinking, I found she was my type of girl. She's kind and cares about her friends and family, being one of the older members she more mature but still a bit child-like, her moment of panic when the lights go out at Futaba's house and how she clings to Joker's leg when Futaba scares her makes her a little more cute, but when it's go time she's fierce and determined, my heart skips a beat whenever she has those little moments.
I love her English Voice Actress too, I first heard her as Lucy Heartfilia in Fairy Tail but didn't take notice of her VA and became more aware of her unitl Asuna Yuki in SAO it's the same time I became more aware of Bryce Papenbrook Bryce is my fav male English VA and Cherami is my fav female English VA. It's why I love her so much. Same with Kawagami I love her cause she's Yukari from P3's VA and Rukia from Bleach's VA
Persona 5 was the first persona game I played, so I didn't know much about the series at the time..With Makoto being the only s-link I maxed out you can tell how immersed I was with her character. The game had me hooked and everything about her s-link was perfect for me. I could go into more detail about it, but it would take a while lol. Even after playing royal with the introduction of Kasumi, Makoto was my only romance option and seeing the new dates and how they made her even better, I didn't regret my choice at all. The game made it hard to break the other girls hearts especially Yoshizawa's, because they're all great romance options(well maybe not Ohya and Futuba in my opinion). But Makoto will always be my #1 Waifu, and the dream is to find a woman like her in real life one day.

The first time I passed persona 5 Royale I went with Sumire... But man, Makoto? Is best girl for a long shot, I am passing the game again, the first two palaces are a bit meh, because I can't see her, and kinda boring but when I fell like that I just see some Makoto related stuff and I jump straight into the Ps4 hyped to see Makoto in all of the "special events" during the game. She is the only one who can make me play a 100hrs game over again.
I love her best because she's a perfect match for Joker and the vision I see of them both in the future is just too fucking beautiful it always brings a tear to my eye. It's been in persona 1 and 2, neither of which ever really had significant popularity in the west. 1 had a poor localisation and a basically unknown remake, and 2 has a good story but is a pain to go back and play. Persona from 3 onwards shares very little other than the name with the first games.

I don't remember where I heard it, but I recall developer notes saying they planned more confidants/party members but cut them down due to plot pacing. The character traits and purposes were, for the most part, rolled into Makoto's character. I think it's why she feels more "complete" than a lot of the other characters.

Here's a little bit of trivia, Makoto's Metaverse outfit, especially her scarf, can be seen as a reference to Kamen Rider, especially those from the tokusatsu Showa Period. The reference is heightened further by Johanna's motorcycle appearance. "Rider" is also one of the suggested nicknames for her. Makoto also shares the pronunciation of her given name with Makoto Fukami from Kamen Rider Ghost.

It’s funny just how out of all the P5 girls, the games not-so-subtly ship Makoto with Joker the most. Her first Confidant event is effectively a date, she gets asked multiple times within the actual story of the games if they’re dating and both of them are often paired together when the team splits up.
Not to mention how often they match. Many of their outfits across multiple game share color schemes and the nature of their weapons are rather similar.
She also just feels like Joker's equal in a lot of ways. She often leads the team more than he does, she's smarter than him and just as dangerous (and we all know a real man wants a girl who can beat him mentally and physically right?)
The two of them just feel like the mom and dad of the Phantom Thieves.

Tactica and Strikers legit just assume you have the two in a relationship barring some bits here and there. Her date in Strikers is the only one that acknowledges is a date, they essentially play mom and dad for the group and Akane, and her last gift in the game is the most romantic coded, meanwhile Tactica has Toshiro and Eri just repeat what they went through.

Makoto feels like a genuine partner, a full equal. The fact that she’s unofficially the second-in-command of the Thieves only makes her more feel like the intended main romance choice.
People call her boring, but they’re mistaking that for the fact that she’s the most put-together. While everyone else is trying to recover from some terrible trauma inflicted upon them, Makoto’s arc is more about her finding her own place in the world. She’s ultimately her own motivator, which makes the romance with Joker feel more like a partnership than a potential dependency.

One feature about Makoto I think haters don't get is how much more down to earth she is compared to the other P5 waifu. She's not an heiress who tries to be unique by wearing pink floofy cardigans, she's also not a mukokuseki with platinum blonde fully body hair. And she's not a long-legged shut up in who's hair dye, and weight are somehow not abyssmal despite not properly taking care of herself for 2 years.
Aside from her eye color Makoto looks like a regular girl and it's entirely possible someone her age is decent at cooking, is smart, and despite being a waif can throw down to varying degrees thanks to aikidou which police officers in the east do learn.
Agreed. It's a distinctive point about Makoto that makes her very different to say... Mitsuru from Persona 3. In P3 Mitsuru is depicted as an ice queen with a warm heart deep down but Makoto is depicted as someone who genuinely wants to connect with others while trying to help them and she really shows a certain vulnerability the other girls don't normally. Q2 kind of highlights this when the 2 interact and Makoto is super modest and even a little bit shy about the fact she really admires Mitsuru.

When picking a girl to romance in P5, I was having a tough time deciding between Makoto & Ann. Makoto won out in the end cause, after some in depth thinking, I found she was my type of girl. She's kind and cares about her friends and family, being one of the older members she more mature but still a bit child-like, her moment of panic when the lights go out at Futaba's house and how she clings to Joker's leg when Futaba scares her makes her a little more cute, but when it's go time she's fierce and determined, my heart skips a beat whenever she has those little moments.

I love her English Voice Actress too, I first heard her as Lucy Heartfilia in Fairy Tail but didn't take notice of her VA and became more aware of her unitl Asuna Yuki in SAO it's the same time I became more aware of Bryce Papenbrook Bryce is my fav male English VA and Cherami is my fav female English VA. It's why I love her so much. Same with Kawagami I love her cause she's Yukari from P3's VA and Rukia from Bleach's VA

Persona 5 Waifu. She is a badass character. You are included video games Waifus to your list is awesome.
Persona 5 was the first persona game I played, so I didn't know much about the series at the time..With Makoto being the only s-link I maxed out you can tell how immersed I was with her character. The game had me hooked and everything about her s-link was perfect for me. I could go into more detail about it, but it would take a while lol.
Even after playing royal with the introduction of Kasumi, Makoto was my only romance option and seeing the new dates and how they made her even better, I didn't regret my choice at all. The game made it hard to break the other girls hearts especially Yoshizawa's, because they're all great romance options(well maybe not Ohya and Futuba in my opinion). But Makoto will always be my #1 Waifu, and the dream is to find a woman like her in real life one day.

The first time I passed persona 5 Royale I went with Sumire... But man, Makoto? Is best girl for a long shot, I am passing the game again, the first two palaces are a bit meh, because I can't see her, and kinda boring but when I fell like that I just see some Makoto related stuff and I jump straight into the Ps4 hyped to see Makoto in all of the "special events" during the game. She is the only one who can make me play a 100hrs game over again.

just so you know nuclear has been around since persona 1 but it was reintroduced in persona 5 alongside the gun damage type... the only element that hasn't been in persona before persona 5 is psychokinesis...
It's been in persona 1 and 2, neither of which ever really had significant popularity in the west. 1 had a poor localisation and a basically unknown remake, and 2 has a good story but is a pain to go back and play. Persona from 3 onwards shares very little other than the name with the first games.
