*please read* anyone with a Gen 2 wanting to install a Gen 3 chainstay guard know that it can be done but you'll need to cut off the metal shift cable tabs or else the guard will not fit. Trek sells touch up paint and the new guard will cover the work you've done as well. Just did this for my Marlin.
I'm looking at a couple Diamondbacks but I'm also looking at the Trek Marlin fired into but I wanted to watch this video but I got to spend only around 600 Buck's❤❤❤
Just test drove this at my local bike shop. Shifted much smoother than the doere. He is selling ot for 700 with kickstand included. Should i go for it.
Thanks for the video. I love the style. May i ask a question. I'm just about to pull the trigger, what would your choice be (what you get for cash paid)... 2024 Trek Marlin 5 Gen 3 £540 2024 Trek Marlin 6 gen 3 £740 Is the TM6 really worth £200 more? Thank you.
I’d say get the marlin 5 gen 3 personally, it has more good changes for this year to make it a good trail bike and the marlin 6 doesn’t make enough upgrades in my opinion to make it worth that much more
@TalalipopMTB hello, I really appreciate the time you took to reply. I think I already came to that conclusion (logically). Though side by side, just on looks, the 6 comes across as having so much more 'presence'. Thanks again.
@@Chalky555 No problem! And yeah I can understand looks having a significant impact on which one you choose. Ultimately both of them are great, so I'd say pick the one that makes you happy and you'll likely have a funner time on it :D
good upgrades , there is still the dual sports for commuting . i was at a local trek shop last week and saw (i think) a Roscoe 6 in a lime yellow with the new frame for around $1150 but don’t see it on Treks website so now i’m doubting my memory
The new generation Roscoe 6 is at the local Trek shop by me and has major improvements over the previous generation. I don’t know why it isn’t on their website because it is definitely in the shop.
You arent wrong- I rode the new 2024 Roscoe 6 last weekend and had to call the shop this morning because I couldnt for the life of me figure out what it was. New 9spd shimano drivetrain, 140mm (!!) suntour shock, and it appears to have the upgraded geometry the rest of the Roscoe lineup got in 2022. At 1199 I could see it becoming Treks number 1 selling mtb pretty easily. I'll probably end up buying it the next time I can get over to that particular shop
Hy, very informative video bro. Would be posible to convert this bike to 1x12 drivetrain?. In that case, which set would you recommend to get the most out of this bike? 1x9 is definitely short, but i really love the purple color... also it's time to change my old marlin 5 from 2018 :]
Hi how are you? My main question is should I buy the GEN 2 or GEN 3... I dont really go to the mountain, I use it to ride around the city and yeah maybe some hills.. what I dont understand is the one-by or two-by... what does that do really? What do you recommend for me thank you?
The 2x gives you more range but better chance of malfunctioning. I just bought a gen 3 and it shifts very smooth and have enough gears for commuting. The seat is much better on the 3 also.
If they are the same price, definitely Marlin 7, it has way better components. Honestly can’t believe the marlin 5 would be the same price, that’s crazy
@@TalalipopMTB had marlin 7 for a few weeks now. mainly riding for commute. quite steep hills and a bit gravel road on my way to work. marlin 7 rides perfectly. was thinking maybe dual sport or other hybrid bikes might suits me better. but had a test ride in store and found marlin7 is actually much better.
Not sure, hoping early next year since Trek hasn’t updated those bikes in forever. Seems like they’re kinda putting those off but they’re definitely due for an upgrade soon
Haven’t heard anything about the new X-Cals yet so I’d say you’re fine getting them right now, but we may see new ones in the near future. They’re due for an update so I’m hoping for early next year

March 2024 update: The official price of the Marlin 5 Gen 3 is $739.99 USD.

Guys omg I’m so happy yesterday I got my Marlin Trek 7 gen 3 omg I love it I love it
Just got one in green. Great bike and the 1x is an upgrade that is great.
I just got the purple. The 1x is very smooth and actually very good on pavement.
Just brought the gen 3 hoping to have some fun

How do I adjust the brakes on this bike ?? I got one 4 months ago and haven’t been able to adjust the brakes.
Also you can officially upgrede the gen 3 to a 120 mm fork while on the gen 2 only 100 mm were allowed by trek without loosing the guarantee.
Marlin 5 gen 3 or used Marlin 7 gen 2?
I think the front can take a 34T crank, is that even significant enough change from 30T?

Yeah for some reason haven't seen those on the Trek website but I have seen them leaked on the web here and there. I'll look into those as well!

I like the new 1x drivetrain, but don’t like the Gen3 being 2.5 lbs heavier that’s noticeable…
Great. Any news about the X-Caliber 9 replacement?
No news about that one yet unfortunately, but I’ll release a video as soon as I hear about it!

Could you make one on the new Roscoe models?
Thanks! And yes I will once there's some more info/pictures on them on the Trek website

Give me the 27 speed I had when i raced in the 90"s on the WORS circuit!
Dang and I have a Marlin 4 wish I would gotten the 7 at least
I got the Marlin 6 but I might get that purple just for the hell of it
That purple is definitely awesome
Just got it. Sparkles line crazy in the sun.
Does 2024 Trek Marlin 5 compete with 2024 Specialized Rockhoper base or sport?
Closer to sport, I’d say marlin 4 compares more to the rockhopper base
Marlin5 gen3 2024model and marlin7 gen3 2023model both $999 in my local store here in Australia. Which one would you recommend? Thank you
If they are the same price, definitely Marlin 7, it has way better components. Honestly can’t believe the marlin 5 would be the same price, that’s crazy
@@TalalipopMTB yes. 5 is 2024model while 7 is 2023 model. I just placed the order for marlin 7 2023 model. Thank you for your great videos!

That’s great!! I love the marlins so I’m happy to hear that it’s working out for you!
Is it recommended to put a 140mm travel fork?
And anything else? They have a roscoe already!!!
@@robo1989 I'm referring to marlin frame. Any thoughts?
Trek recommends a maximum fork travel of 120mm for this bike to not mess up the geometry too much.
Whene do you think th xcal 8 2024 wil be available
Not sure, hoping early next year since Trek hasn’t updated those bikes in forever. Seems like they’re kinda putting those off but they’re definitely due for an upgrade soon
Is the 2023 gen 3 and 2024 gen 3 the same bike?
Currently yes they are the same, might see an update in the future
The seat on the Gen 3 is not comfortable at all, ended up switching it for a more comfortable seat not even a week after owning the bike
It seems like trek is slowly making the marlins more for trail riding over commuting.
Definitely!
I just turned my Marlin 5 Gen and was going to order a X-caliber 9. Is there a 2024 X-caliber 8 and 9 coming out should I hold off?

is a 2022 rockhopper comp 29 better than the marlin 5 gen 3?
Rockhopper hasn’t been updated in a while, so I personally like the gen 3 marlins more and think they are better suited for the trail
@@TalalipopMTB i pretty much want a reliable bike, which isnt too heavy and is gonna survive some crashes

Can this bike be used for trail riding
Definitely!
That 1x9 sucks. Im ready to return my Marlin 5 I Purchased yesterday.
Whats wrong with it. I think it's fine.
15kg? Damn
What is your best guess for when it will be available in the US?
Probably later this year would be my guess or latest early next year
@@TalalipopMTBstill thinking the same? Or some new word?
Does the gen 3 has a dropper post ?
Not for this bike specifically, but you are able to buy and add an internal or external dropper post in the future if you want to
1.1 kg heavier😢
because of more trail geometry of the frame and tire width
