Those beams looked great Tony. I'm surprised you did not hit any metal. Still waiting for mine from REMC.

Why would you not use a metal detector on those poles?

Well, mostly because I don't own a metal detector! Lol. This was the first time I've ever milled utility poles, and I didn't see the need for the expense. I only mill trees from my own property, so I'm fairly confident in having "clean", metal free logs. Thanks for the comment!

I mostly saw power poles. There are a few bumps along the way but it makes beautiful lumber. We also have a channel we are trying to grow. It’s
Barn to beach designs and Sawmill
We have several videos of us milling power poles.

There is a learning curve, for sure. I agree, the lumber is beautiful. My wife and I both subscribed to your channel, looking forward to checking out your operation. Thanks for subscribing and commenting!

I have the same saw and tractor as you. Good taste. I don't have your nice shed. Do you have a video on that. New sub.

Hi, great minds I suppose!😁 I don't think we have an actual video that covers the sawmill shed build, but we do have a montage of pics:

How do you go about getting utility poles

My local electric utility keeps a list of folks who would like the old poles. Whenever they replace poles, they haul the old ones back to the yard and stockpile them. Then when they accumulate a bunch, they call folks on that list and have them come pick some up for free. My utility cuts them to size according to whatever length the customer desires, and they even load them for you. You might call around and see if your local utility does something similar.

I’m thinking of using power poles to build my sawmill shed. They appear to be western cedar.

I don't see why that wouldn't work. I've read where Western cedar isn't treated? If so, that would be another plus! Good luck, and check for metal..... thanks for watching and commenting!
