    i'm playin one of these right now in this exact moment at home ( clean with pedals ..volume almost zero...:-) . i also made a video about that , it will be on air the september the 4th if you wanna watch it ( in italian ..sorry ), i was surprised how good the cleans are, especially on the bass channel, gorgeous fender tones, i also crancked it with a friend of mine who has the Torpedo Captor and it's amazing amazing amazing. The only complain is the volume wich is insane at levels that people can not imagine and the fact that you need an attenuator/reload device (like the fryette or the suhr one ) to use delays and reverb after the distortion when crancked. you're videos are always amazing!! have a nice day !!! ciaooooo 😉

    I can't believe I missed this video when you first published it! I love Marshall Plexis! The 1987x and 1959 are very close tone-wise, as you've said. The 1959 just has more girth being 100w. The 1987x is going to be easier to control though because it's only 50w and it's still plenty loud. My '72 Marshall 100w Plexi (yes it has a metal panel, but it's still a "Plexi") which I've owned for 20+ years is unbelievably loud. Thankfully the previous owner had an excellent post phase inverter master volume installed otherwise it would be unusable for my needs. Even with the master, it's still really loud when you turn it up enough to get the power tubes cooking and allow the amp to breathe a little. Your Bad Boy is a great sounding amp and surprisingly sounds very similar to both the Plexis. The 1959 just has something about it...maybe the bloom that you mentioned. Really though, your playing ability makes everything sound fantastic!

    I never understood all the amps that came afterwards that tried to build even more gain than a jcm800 let alone a 1959 super lead? Seems to me with those amps as your foundation you can get the rest of the way with a boost or overdrive tone and Taylor your exact tone. I can’t stand amps that are hard wired with tons of gain, you lose dynamics. There are tons of boost, overdrive & compression pedals to choose from. Heck slap an effects loop in and put one of those studio quality EQ units in - you will have any tone you want!!

    @Euge Valoverta have you tried running you Marshall plexi at 8ohms through a 16 watt cab? Eddie Van Halen preferred to run 8ohm out into 16ohm 4x12 cab as it just sounds a little better. I swear by it and its totally safe. I also use an attenuator sometimes that is 16 ohms and keep my head at 8 ohms out. I listened to each setting and it really does sound better. Try it...totally safe. I prefer greenbacks over any other speaker with my plexi. The 25 watt greenbacks like Eddie used. I think he had the best tones ever. I said tones because it changed a little here and there on the first 6 records but was always the same Marshall from 68. He also did the variac and dropping the voltage but I don't think you need to do that to get a sound like that. I actually prefer it without the variac because mine is a 50 watt and has enough sag already. I think lowering the voltage on a variac makes a 100 watt superlead less stiff and more forgiving and easy to play. Anyway try the 8 ohm out setting to 16 ohm. Something about the mismatch sounds better.

    • @EugeValovirta230V
      @EugeValovirta230V  2 роки тому +1

      Sure!
      It’s always safe as long as the ohms from the amp are equal or smaller than the cab / speakers / load. Old trick and always worthwile to check that out 👌. Sometimes it’s worth it and sometimes not 😎. As long as if it sounds good it’s good 🤟. Same goes with a Variac; sometimes I use it and sometimes I don’t 😊.

      Depends on the amp. I have 3 2203s and they all sound different but really good. I’d have to have that particular amp for comparison but since it’s a non-master volume Plexi it’s quite a bit different than The Bad Boy which is master volume JCM800 2203. And a really aggressive one.

    I guess it's all subjective. As a plexi cascades out different than a JCM preamp gain.
    May sound similar, however some of us prefer a plexi type minus the jumper cable.
    The tube sag is non existent in a preamp gain amp, if that it a preference.

    Hi Euge, have you already had the chance to compare the 100watt 1959SLP regular production model with the handwired model? I‘m really curios if there is a tonal difference. As far as I heard they should sound almost identical, but in every sound demo I checked the handwired seams a little less bright and not breaking up as quickly when increasing the volume. My Model is already starting to distort with the volume around 1 at high treble input

    • @EugeValovirta230V

    They sound good don't get me wrong, but after watching the video of you plugging in that SLO, it seems like you ought to distract the wife from looking at the bank account and buy an SLO 100 or 30.

      SLO is a very good amp but favourite has always been JCM800 2203 and 1987x & the original 5150 comes second.
