Which of all things, is a piece lamenting how Japanese culture(The Shadows) was being overshadowed by Western culture(The Light).

The problem is that there’s a select group of horror enthusiasts that assume all horror movies are meant to be deep discussions of culture and belief systems. Here’s the thing: they’re not.
The problem with that point of view is that it takes away the real point of why people make horror movies, and that’s for the love of the craft. Some movies make cultural or political statements, yes, but that’s not what drove the creators.
These people are not really horror movie fans, they’re political junkies who are desperate to find pseudo-political meanings in a genre of film that leads itself to being open for interpretation.
To me, horror is about the thrill of fear and suspense in a safe environment where you're allowed to express these feelings without being in danger, with various underlying types of horror invoking different fears, and ideas that integrate into them.

I'm not a fan of this idea that that somehow Kyle Rittenhouse was more justified or "more correct" in self defense because of their criminal past. They could've been god fearing priests who gave their entire wage away to starving orphans and saved turtles for a living. It still would not have changed the fact that what he did was both legally and morally righteous within our country and society respectively. You don't need to qualify self defense, and to other people it can just come across like you have to somehow justify what he did by appealing to peoples emotion rather than stating the fact of the matter that he enacted in legal self defense and if you have a problem with that then you have a gripe with the law and not your opinion on Rittenhouse. Even if you didn't mean it that way, and I'm sure you didn't, that's still how it can come off as.

As someone who was an ardent IPOS fan for all these years this was such a bizarro left field move from him - the guy used to just make media analysis around horror content, stuff like the horror comics and lovecraft videos are some of the best stuff on the platform. I understand not wanting to give this guy views but if you dgaf i recommend his older stuff, mainly from 2019-2021.
But then out of the blue he makes this drama farm vid that's extremely out of place from his channel. I guess he figured the sincerity wasn't cutting it, so he'd try at desperate attempt at surging some life into his channel.

One of the things that bothers me is his 'qualification to criticize art' is... Nuts. That's talk from someone who blatantly knows fuck all about art. There's literally a saying you'll learn about art criticism in like, you know. Artist circles. Like actual artist circles. You want at least three critics. A child, an expert, and a layman. Because the perspectives vary dramatically. An expert can be lost in the sauce, a child may not understand nuance but will have instinctive reads that other people lack, and laymen have a general non-in-depth experience but often life experiences that can inform something. Art is not an elitist thing.

As someone who is a “leftist”/has many many leftist views, is trans, and part of the lgbtq community, wendigoon and almost all of these UA-camrs are some of the most welcoming channels and genuinely only cover people who are bad people, and always cover nuanced and interesting topics. Wendigoon is just a guy who is being genuine and kind to people. Just because some of these people cover trans people and people of the lgbtq community, it is because they are bad people, for example many of the people who are trans covered by turkey tom or mudihar are bad people, and no one regardless of being alt right or alt left are immune to potentially being a “bad person”. As long as you’re trying to genuinely not be hateful to people overall, people do not have to be singled out. Thank you tom this was a dope video :)

There's an enormous amount of unchecked hypocrisy and irony in this video, but one thing that hasn't been pointed out yet, is that Wendigoon is NEVER insistent on his theories about a series or game that he's analysing.
He has ALWAYS made it clear that his theories aren't "canon" and that they're from his interpretation. He acknowledges when his biases might come into play, like the fact that he's a Christian or from the Appalachians. He's always very open-minded to other people's theories and perspectives on media and will actively engage and promote new ideas that he finds interesting.
IPOS does the exact opposite in every single way and then blames Wendigoon for something that only IPOS is doing.
Wendigoon is successful because he interacts positively with his community, the online horror community at large and online horror artists. Despite being a youth pastor in his spare time, he actually doesnt just sit and preach to his viewers, and act like hes uniquely more intelligent than everyone else. He gathers information about an intentionally mysterious and/or metaphorical piece of media, pieces it together and gives his theories on it. His videos serve as more of cohesive resource rather than something like a video essay, and he continues the discussion with fans after he posts his videos.
IPOS seems to just want to lecture and scold people because he sees himself as morally and intellectually superior.
Wendigoon's videos is akin to a friend who wants to share something he's interested in it to you.
Also, it's pretty hypocritical for IPOS to say that Wendigoon saying, "In my perspective..." or similar phrases in his videos are poor practice when IPOS does it himself in his own videos. He even did it right after he calls out Wendigoon for it. Like, bro.
