Melissani Cave, Kefalonia, Nymphs Cave, very beautiful place, Greece

Visiting the Melissani Cave has rightfully become a must-see for visitors to Kefalonia. Its two rooms offer very different experiences. The first is of a mystical blue created by sunlight streaming through the collapsed roof centuries ago.
And the second room, which is reached by passing through a very narrow passage. There are 20,000-year-old stalagmites here and an island in the middle where excavations have revealed a number of artifacts (oil lamps, plates and figures depicting the god Pan and several nymphs) that have added to the legend the cave. Here it appears that one of those nymphs, Melissani (or Melissanthi), drowned after being rejected by Pan. Hence the other name of the cave, Cave of the Nymphs.
