You can buy a special reamer that you use on a power drill to make the hole proper size and you can use a big hammer to pound plug in after lubing with glue on high ply tires also cut off flush and burn off close to tire so the plug does not pull out when driving with a lighter in your kit. 👍👍🐕⭐⭐⭐⭐👍👍🚐
well your looking young every day .....sorry for your toe , am sure you will get better , look at the bright sight your more then 30 yrs old , so stay strong and stay positive .....live a day !
You don't know to make that tire hole bigger until you know to make the hole bigger. You did a great job for your 1st tire repair. Next time will be so much easier. Hope that toe heals up!!! I never had any health issues. Then I turned 50 and the "check engine" light came on. It's a shock but you've got to adjust and treat your body differently at that point. Love your vids bro!!!
I just recently saw a meme where the caption was, “every time I get up too fast,” and the picture was a dashboard with a slew of warning lights 😂. Every year there’s a new warning light. 😂😂
Plug repairs are not intended to be a permanent tire repair. Plugs and string repairs are designed to get you back up and rolling long enough to get home.
Chrome, perhaps a little tequila therapy for the toe pain before bed would be helpful. Blessings to you and all you hold dear. Thank you for this delightful posting.
When I did it, I took the tool that makes the hole bigger, and I put it on a drill and just stuck it in the hole and kept spinning it to make the hole Bigger and it worked much easier.
Always keep a tire plug kit in your vehicle, if space is an issue, you can get much smaller kits, also, even if you don't need it, if you have it with you, someone else might need it, especially in the back country
Long ago, leaving a motel I suddenly had a flat tire with a rental car. Across the street was a garage, so I moved over there. They first tried to sell me a new tire (Yeah, it all sounds a bit suspicious). Finally he put it on the car lift and put a plug in it. Only $8. As it was above him, he could basically hang on the tool to pull it through. If possible driving it up a high curb or a big rock may also make it easier.
Buddy you made that Way to difficult.... Next time you do it use some of that rubber contact cement that they use for patches. Just a dab on that plug on the tool and it’ll slide right in. ✌️
Hey Chrome just a friendly Tip Bye A pool Noodle Cut it to the size of your windshield wipers And stick it over them it prevents freezing On your windshield wipers
Chrome, fyi..in the future rather than using a reamer for the plug, use a cordless drill with a 1/8th bit. I plug tires as part of my job and and it works much better. There are also smaller diameter plugs too, for smaller nails..Blackjack makes a great tire plug kit, it’s what I use and it comes with everything you’ll need. Take care.

Aloha Chrome. Props for this video. Most people do not understand how to do this. This is just as important to learn as changing a tire especially when the vehicle is your home! Great job my friend. Aloha and live!
A leaky tire can get old real quick. You did the right thing fixing it up. I had a slow leak that I couldn't find agrivated me to no end for months. That sort of thing wears on ya. All sorted now and no worries!
I'm glad you showed the tire repair. I have one of those kids JIC but didn't know about making the hole so big! You know I'm little so if it does happen I'm going to hope it's a front tire! On the other hand, you're not the only one limping today - Charley pulled me down a rocky ravine chasing a coyote tonite. Yup, I'm limping too 😂 WEIRDOS UNITE ❤️
I hope you feel better soon. Everyone’s fur babies dragging them around the countryside?😂 some people have suggested taking off the tire, holding it between your feet, and patching it from above for leverage. 👍
After long time i m watching ur video from Pakistan while here in Peshawar city we have 24c while in canada there is still snowing. While in north Pakistan there is still snowing too. We have many weather seasons at a time.
Yes by the looks of it you would want to reem it a little bigger however you do want an incredibly tight fit so it should be difficult to insert. One old timers trick is to burn the plug with a lighter after installed to get rid of the excess. Can help melt it to the tire for a little added adhesion but at the same time be very careful not to overheat the tire as it can create a weak spot. Maybe give it a shot when your tires are worn out and you plan on replacing them. At the very least it'll be helpful to practice a bit for the next time you actually need to plug a tire.
Maybe next time, use your battery drill and a 1/4" drill bit to ream out the hole. Then, use the plug tool and rubber strip to plug the hole. It's fast and easy to get you by until you get to a shop for proper repair.
Thanks for the videos Chrome! You're inspiring people! I've plugged a few tires over the years, and have a tip to make it easier. If you take the wheel off and roll the site of the puncture to the top you can bring your bodyweight and core muscles to bear on the job and clench the wheel in place with your legs. It may take a bit longer but will strain your body less.
I those tire plugs will save you someday especially the way you use your home. I've had practice unfortunately and it gets easier after a couple of times
It's the insurance companies , whose OCD policy-makers LOVE intruding on every part of your life to mandate how to live it, that REQUIRE the shops to dismount the tire & do an interior repair. Granted , an interior patch repair IS of better quality , but around here shops charge $30-$60 to do so !💸! I've NEVER had any of more than a dozen plugs fail at all in over 50 years of driving , nor do I know anyone who has. They've ALL lasted the full life of the tire. ( real world experience , not armchair book-knowledge ; & still wrenchin' )
Please put the caveat that lithium batteries need to be mounted INSIDE. 👍👍 I retrofitted one into my Class C and it kept going into protection mode because it was cold.
Worst case, you could also take the wheel off the back of the van and have full access to the tire in any direction you want. It’s a pain on our vans, and if you’re taking it off anyway you might as well throw the spare on and patch it later. But it’s an option.
Great video chrome. I have watched for for a few years love all the growth you have had over that time. When I patch tires I tend too take it off the car so I can stand over the hole
That was weird. I have plugged hundreds of tires over the years and never had a problem with having to make the hole bigger. Now to be fair I have always used the cheaper kits so maybe the diameter of the tool with the plug is smaller.

20psi loss per day is a bit much for most vehicles... Just glad you have your own tire pump on board. Yeah-yeah the others didn't chime in about having a proper more permanent repair by dismounting the whole tire, patching it from the inside, remount and rebalance the whole tire assembly While plenty of others ran it just fine with a plug until the threads are worn down

The plug is a great temporary fix in an emergency, but, the tire should be patched from the inside to make it permanant.
Always wonder why you leave your doors wide open when you are outside in the freezing cold, losing all the heat you built up inside?

One time he said it helps to not build moisture inside and prevents mold.

Hello to everyone in the comments! Always a nice video to watch.
Got my co-worker to do my tire after the show refused cause I didn't have enough tread. He struggled too.
It sucks getting old! I've been on crutches since October 😥

I did VanLife for 5 months very recently but I just couldn't find places to sleep. I love love VanLife I just wish I could figure it out.
Once you get the plug in twisting as you pull the tool out helps
And if you like your tires it needs a boot(patch) on the inside of the tire

I'm female, and I have plugged a few tires. I can't say it was fun, but it was free. Having a tire repair kit is a prepping necessity.
It really helps to let most of the air out before putting the plug in. Your fighting air pressure to put that plug in.

With the velocity and heat you were throwing those snowballs the Emi I’m surprised she’s not limping an bruised up. Come chrome lol 😝
I live in southwestern Ontario, you’ve had more snow than us!
Yeah I Chrome I was just getting ready to say that’s what that Reimers for that just makes it nice and smooth whole where it ain’t RIGID he
If available, I use a drill to ream out the puncture hole befor installing the plug. Much easier
use a drill and a drill bit about same size its much easier i saw a professional machanic do it ;)
Wow you did well repairing the tire
Awesome .. another inspiration
