Y’know, whenever you romance an alien, Javik always says ‘You and the [Species Name] are... joined?’ I really wish he said ‘You and the Canadian are... joined?’
Everyone talks about how Kaidan was "ruined" and that this relationship comes out of nowhere. I strongly disagree. Even from the first game where Kaidan isn't a male romance option, I always thought he acted really awkward around male Shepard, and male Shepard around him. There were many times where their talks with each other could easily be construed as the two of them pretending they don't like each other that way and trying to hide an attraction. I imagined male Shep was a tad jealous when asking Kaidan if he has any intention on acting on his attraction to the women on board, with Kaidan declining interest in them. There were also many times where Kaidan expresses distress and concern for Shepard when he's wounded in a way that not even Garrus or Ashley does. Out of all of them, he's the one that asks Shepard "Are you okay?" the most. He cared about Shepard in his own way. Kaidan mentions in the third game "have you known me to be with anyone?" and his reason is clearly because he's been waiting for Shepard all this time, and hasn't known how to confront that. Especially after Shepard dies and Cerberus brings him back. He had a lot of time in those two years to deal with his feelings. I could definitely see them hiding an attraction for one another over the years, because they already seem to like each other. Kaidan says himself that he would have followed Shepard anywhere, even to hell and back. If that's not an expression of adulation, I don't know what is. (And of course, Kaidan was always originally bisexual, but BioWare kind of chickened out on that at the start).
+Mel Thorn this is the most truest comment i've ever heard, i somewhat felt sorry for kaiden since he presumably hadn't come out until the events of mass effect 3; its sad if you know what i mean.
+Mel Thorn I noticed how all the other romance options for male Shepard (except for Steve Cortez, who only turns up in Mass Effect 3, and Ashley, who is a hot girl, and therefore was always going to be a romance option,) are not, or at least don't start out as, members of the Alliance Navy. It's possible that Shepard and Kaidan resisted their feelings because of rules about fraternization.
+Andrew McAlister Hmm I don't think so. Like maybe Kaidan really didn't know he was also into guys before Shepard but a)he's hardly the kind of guy to have any problems with acknowledging it to himself or anyone else (both because of the world he lives in and because he's very comfotable with who he is) and b) his entire speech here and back in ME1 implies that he's probably demiromantic + he has just spent months suspicious if Shepard's really Shepard after thinking he was dead for almost two years so it stands to reason that his realisation that he has feelings for Shepard is a recent one, not because of Shepards gender but because of the circumstances
+Mel Thorn Old comment is old but just had to say: I also strongly disagree that Kaidan was ruined by this. And if he was, well, as a "side effect" they actually managed to offer a really sweet and believable romance. Like... I always felt that Liara romance happened way too sudden and with Ashley everyone pretty much seemed to assume as a default that they had something going on. (Keep in mind though that I'm talking about MY character and the way I was roleplaying him.) Liara is all "I'm so very attracted to you even though I just met you and you have been a real jerk to me." (Renegade playthough :D) Kaidan had all the time to get to know Shepard and how he operates without forcing a romance there. (He and Wrex were my #1 team). By the time ME3 starts, my Shepard had grown as a person and no more acted like a hardass 100% of the time. Thus the progression actually seemed very natural and I was like "Yeah, Kaidan is the one for him."
+PassTheMarmalade1957 the truth is simpler. There is a part of game for ME1 romance BUT it was cut out because they decided against gay options (technically Liara isn't "female", she the "asari gender").
When The Sims 4 comes out, I'm going to fully create these two lovers so they can continue their life without having to worry about all that space drama, haha.
and i find myself back here again haha... as a gaymer, this romance is so important to me. it's like we, as a community, finally got our fairy tale. we're fed constant images and stories of male-female love stories of a damsel in distress and a hero who swoops in a gets the girl. with mshenko, we have a beautiful, realistic tragedy about two soldiers... comrades... strong, confident, selfless men who form a relationship as lovers and partners over years - one that's based on trust, friendship and mutual respect. it touches the child in me somewhere, that aspires to such things. and in a violent, explosion-filled, action-packed, badass epic video game! hats off to you, Bioware.
i like to romance miranda, liara or jack when I play as custom male shepard... they're all great, but in my mind, default male shep and kaidan were made for eachother. they're just so... perfectly tragic and beautiful together.
At first I did think it was kinda forced but when you watch them from me 1 onwards you realise it’s just built up feelings that they were either hiding or probably just because they were concentrating on the mission at the time. It’s a bond that grows through each game where they’ve been through so much together and then their true feelings emerge and thinking the world might end, they dive into each other’s arms. Best gay romance in the ME series in my opinion, so much love and respect for each other. No other romance is that deep and realistic, all others seem to be a bit sudden except for Garrus and Tali whom you can only start romancing from 2 onwards. On the subject of gay romances though, what’s always confused me is why tali and jack has never been able to romance both genders? I’d so love that
> or probably just because they were concentrating on the mission at the time. What a hilarious reason, like that wouldn't count for the other romance options.
Love is love. It's one of those emotions that you can't beat. It's our lack of honesty and what others think that gets in the way. In ME Legendary everyone has evolved to a place and time where no one gives a damn if two men or two women love each other, something that should be alive and well in reality but isn't due to some religions, politicians and meddlers. Kaidan and Male Shep's relationship was there from the start. The mission and the regs led to the quandry about their feelings. When Kaidan saw Shep at Horizon, his emotions were all over the place. Joy, pain, anger erupted when he realized that Cerebus was involved. It was later when he had calmed down that he could actually get a sense of where Shep was at. Heck, Liara could have told them all what happened to Shep's body. Shep could have left a note to Kaidan with Anderson, too. There was a lot of failure to communicate on all parts. But in Liara's case, she thought that Shep would finally turn to her, but didn't. Then in ME3, they finally got on the same page showcasing that love and respect that they have for each other.
All my playthroughs I have Shepard romance Ashley, she dies then starts up with Miranda and in ME3 end it with her to end it all with Kaidan. Its like my Shepard goes through a phase with failed female relationships only to realize that at the end of it all he was in Love with Kaidan and vice versa someone he overlooked throughout the years. :)
While I despertely want to, I am not depraved enough to comment on the 'deeper' part of what you said, KasKas. Yet I am tempted to agree. It's a bromance turned into an actual romance, and I am loving it. Despite me being a straight male and always gunning for Liara or Tali, and Kasumi if I had a chance.
Definitely a lot hotter! Prefer these two each time! It'd be even nicer if they did all the same things as the straight relationships in these games though.
The voice actors have a lot of chemistry together, kinda like how Garrus and FemShep have a ton of chemistry. The dialogue is only part of the performance, and Mark Meer and Raphael Sbarge really gave it their all with these performances.
I wished I was already done with playing Mass Effect 2. I feel so lost without Kaidan and I finally want to be able to start that romance. Shep just needs his guardian back at his side.
A few years later and in 2020, I still cry about this unfinished story! It is really the most beautiful romance to be found in games. I want to hug everyone from bioware for creating it!
Yes. It breaks a character that was written that way from ME1. Sure it does ... The fact is you have the *option* to play how you want, nothing is forced on you, make your own decisions and stop whining.
what the shit Bioware, how come I didn't this kinda scene in any of the Dragon ages? would I wouldn't give to see Hawke and Fenris rolling around like that
If you've played the game as constantly as I have they cut those scenes away, the most you will get for a sex scene is in DA:O and ever so slightly in DA:I
I'm gonna admit that I originally planned to romance Liara but I skipped through the dialog with Kaiden and it chose to romance him instead, I stopped playing the story mode for like 3 months, but returned and said "Fuck it, I don't wana start over and played through and might i say this ship had my feels going everywhere so my mistake turned into a happy accident and their romance is the most heart felt out of all the other options imo
It was meant to be an option in ME1 - and the dialogue was there (for Kaiden, partially for M!Shepard) however was removed from the game prior to release.
Just finished my playthrough (ME Legendary Edition) with male Shepard and Kaidan. What a ride! I enjoyed every minute. These guys are so meant to be ❤️. I hope this romance continuous and evolves in the upcoming ME game. I can’t wait.
In my head, my run through with male Shepard, given the fact Kaidan was only a male romance option in ME3 not in previous ME's I kind of felt like it worked quite well. I thought of male shepard as a serial womaniser. In my play through with him he had Ashley, Tali AND Liara on the go in ME1, but chose Liara based on the fact that Kaiden expressed interest in her, and asked Ashley if she wanted a 3some with Liara. He then chose Ashley to die because well he couldnt let Kaiden die but didnt realise why at the time. In ME2 theres not much of Kaiden anyways so he proceeded to flirt with both Miranda and Jack, and hurt Liara when she saw him with Miranda. In the end he chose Miranda. But he also made sure he had Kelly on the side behind Miranda's back, plus tried it on with Tali once again. In the 3rd game he realised the reason he couldn't just settle with 1 girl was because something was missing...hence forth he realises hes gay and has been in love with Kaiden all along! Sweetest story ever! :D My female shepard always stays faithful to Kaiden, no matter how much I want to try other romances, I never can seem to not go for Kaiden. I hope Bioware continue to have same sex and opposite sex relationships in their games from now on :) its nice to have options!
I'm completely for this as a whole, but I think it should have been something you could do from the beginning (as in ME:1) as it feels sort of tacked on for ME:3.
They should have included this romance in ME1. We are talking about a game ambiented more than 150 years in the future, when relationships between species are accepted but at the same time, we have no option to romance our MShep with Kaidan or any other men, because they were too afraid of homophobic audience?
Compared to Steve, this is better. This at least has some very solid foundation to build this on and it isn't an awkward or super quick development unlike Steve. Don't get me wrong, I love Steve and all, but he just lost his husband and he got over him really quickly..... It was just odd and their relationship was just a rush compared to Kaidan.
Doesn't really change the fact that it was cut. Even though you can change it on the PC, Shepard will still be refereed to as a girl, and will have pretty much the same dialogue with other characters as female Shepard.
Alright but why in comparison with a romanced faithful FemShep does this seem much more wholesome?? The lines are much more tender and there is so much chemistry. Feels like a very solid slow burn romance ❤️
One scene is missing: if Kaidan goes with Shepard to get to the crucible, he'll be injured on the way and Shepard will call the Normandy to extract him. As they part ways, they profess their love for one another.
Why couldn't this be a suggested thing in the first two games?! Would have been way more meaningful. That goes for the female/male and female/female relationships too. This seems like a far more romantic relationship than just random sex, and would have had a greater reception had it actually been suggested at
i now want to reply ME3 and make shepard bi just so he can end up with Kaidan.....Kaidan - "shepard i'm behind you" XD i bet you are (its so funny and yet sweet).
Yes when you're at the club with Cortez, you can flirt/dance with him ... but if you say you want to be more than friends at that point it locks you into the romance with him ... if you do this after you're locked in with Kaidan, he comments on it
I'm getting the game. I wish they did stuff like this with skyrim, where you could make your own relationship questline or something, i'm excited to get this game :3
I kind of feel bad for Shepard! He's had so much death around him, then finally finding someone to love whose been with him through thick and thin (since ME1), only to lose him as quickly as they got together! It just breaks my heart; for both of them. Why couldn't there be a choice that didn't involve shepard dying or synthesizing with machines so they could be together after the war was over?
There is an option for shepard to be alive. Have the max war effort bar and get the destroy ending, if you've successful the red light should be a bit lighter and the soldier in earth would get wiped
When I played through the who entire trilogy I always had a feeling kaidan kept his feelings secret from M/shep or trying to figure it out! Idk kaidan didn't really have much words to say to M/shep in ME1. He always seemed awkward with little words to say. Made me wonder if Kaiden was trying to figure out his true feelings for M/shep. He even got really mad as M/shep In ME2 yelling at him about not letting him know he was a live. Especially when he said "it was like losing a lim" idk their relationship just really developed more into a romantic interest. It makes more sense these two would become a couple then just sticking to friends!
The "left without waking me" does not refer to a visible scene. But You can imagine what happened, most likely after the date on the Citadel. You know "there are benefits to that happyness" ;) ...
The other thing that bugged me was the ranks on uniforms - I know its such a simple really thing, but their consistency with it blows - even with the same character!
I LOVE YOU BIOWARE AND YOUR ROMANCE DIVERSITY!!! If you are a fangirl and keep pausing at almost every minute , you can see the expressions, Shepard's smile and the look in his eyes, so as Kaidan's.........OMGGGGGGGGGGGGG
Kaidan Alenko: Queer & A Lesbian since Mass Effect 3. No but seriously, for your information, Kaidan was always intended to be bisexual but those scenes got cut from the final ME1 release, but can be partially restored in the PC version. Literally no one in ME3 is "suddenly" gay or especially lesbian (Tali, Ashley, etc all still straight to my knowledge). Can I ask, why are you crazy??
For the love of- Can't we just watch this video, thank the nice poster for uploading it and get on with our day without starting a debate about homosexuality? Good upload, love the romance buildup.
Since I modded my game in order to simulate a romance between Kaidan and Shep in ME2, the dialogue on Mars was exactly as it was when it's Femshep romancing Kaidan. :)
I keep wondering why they didn't did the same with ashley, as a Femshep you don't really have manny options besides garrus (don't get me wrong, i love him, but it's him or kaidan, not much room for more)
There's also Samantha and Liara for Femshep. Garrus and Kaidan are the only male options for her. (Of course that's just in Mass Effect 3; you've got Jacob and Thane in Mass Effect 2.)
Blackheartick FemShep - ME1 Kaidan/Liara. ME2 Kelly, Liara, Thane, Garrus, Jacob, Samara (Won't count Morinth). ME3 Samantha, Liara, Diana/Kelly (more of a fling than a romance), Garrus, Kaidan. Citadel - Javik, James, Samara (Continued). During my ME playthrough I initially had a relationship with Liara with my renegade FemShep. In 2, she was missing for practically the whole game due to me not buying the ShadowBroker DLC, so I moved on to Kelly. In ME3, Kelly is more of a brief fling only for those who saved her and/or romanced her in 2, and then moved on to Diana seeing as Liara was not impressed by this shenanigans. This meant I was largely considered as not being in a relationship by the time Citadel DLC came along, which put me in that awkward moment of waking up beside Javik... Not pleasant. Either way, Male Shep seems to have a lot better options in terms of relationships, though 9/10 players are probably happy to romance Garrus all day. Personally, I see him more as a best-bud & little bro I want to keep safe.
Yeah the first two are import scenes, the last the most devastatingly, emotionally destructive scene I've seen in ages. Literally welled up so much when Kaidan is just begging the Commander to leave with him. AND THEN HIS FACE. Jesus, its good to see that Bioware actually cares about giving a great and detailed romance. Its fucking great.
Yup. Kaidan in fact outranked Shepard as of ME2 as a Staff Commander. They really messed up the ranks. They did it worse with Ash though. Although plausible she could have gotten a commission after ME1, in ME2 she was only an Operations Chief ... which they tend not to promote NCM's directly to a high rank such as LC ...
I agree with you there, you only know what rank a person is by how they are addressed in public. True there are on certain characters indications, but that's only on dress uniforms with a total lack of any indication on duty uniforms again making it impossible to work out. I guess they never thought people would notice such things or find fault with them, you could add this to the list of other faults people have with ME3 which there isn't enough room here to list them all.
Y’know, whenever you romance an alien, Javik always says ‘You and the [Species Name] are... joined?’
I really wish he said ‘You and the Canadian are... joined?’
Everyone talks about how Kaidan was "ruined" and that this relationship comes out of nowhere. I strongly disagree.

M!Shep and Kaidan is probably Bioware's best gay relationship of all time. It's so realistic compared to most

Lol am thinking of doing this very thing in the legendary edition, except it will be with Liara then Jack and then he finds his way to Kaidan 🥰
@@victoriasharpe1661 i actually have done exactly that lol
Cool and nice.
Is it just me or is Male Shepard X Kaidan a lot hotter then Female Shepard X Kaiden

Is it normal to be depressed for a whole week and thinking about nothing else after watching this video
The kiss before the battle tho! *nose bleeding*
it made me cry this had so much meaning awwwwwww
It was just odd and their relationship was just a rush compared to Kaidan.
sdttran this one is the only M/M that is authentic enough to be believable as well
^But the thing is, they were CUT.
Doesn't really change the fact that it was cut. Even though you can change it on the PC, Shepard will still be refereed to as a girl, and will have pretty much the same dialogue with other characters as female Shepard.
Bad new Tali im breaking up with you good news Kaiden im on your team now
I actually prefer this one over the Fem Shep and Kaidan one, I dunno why.
I want a relationship like this but I am not nearly as cool or badass as either of these two
Alright but why in comparison with a romanced faithful FemShep does this seem much more wholesome?? The lines are much more tender and there is so much chemistry. Feels like a very solid slow burn romance ❤️
"Seeing you in action again, it reminded me you're a hell of a soldier"
and
"I need you"
Never we're truer words spoken!
"Without that affection....all I have in my life is death. And that's not enough."
One scene is missing: if Kaidan goes with Shepard to get to the crucible, he'll be injured on the way and Shepard will call the Normandy to extract him. As they part ways, they profess their love for one another.
That's one badass homosexual...
Makes sense kaiden is bi. He loves Shepard completely for who they are
Why couldn't this be a suggested thing in the first two games?! Would have been way more meaningful. That goes for the female/male and female/female relationships too. This seems like a far more romantic relationship than just random sex, and would have had a greater reception had it actually been suggested at
The devs are afraid of homophobic fans boycotting the game. I'd say a good thing, it makes the relationship has deeper developments
Thank you sooo much dutchess - but you missed the 3 real hot, flirty scenes in the Citadel DLC...from a romantic point-of-view a must have DLC!
I bromanced Kaidan. Chose the relationship because friends finally became lovers
24:43 "I mean, the decision to sacrifice the one for the many - a choice to leave someone behind...."
EPIC FORESHADOWING!!!
aaww sherpard is the little spoon xD
Agh, I adore this couple but Meer voiced the lines so awkwardly...
Ironically, the deepest comment Shepard makes of his relationship with Kaiden is with Javik lol *facepalm
i now want to reply ME3 and make shepard bi just so he can end up with Kaidan.....Kaidan - "shepard i'm behind you" XD i bet you are (its so funny and yet sweet).
oh, Kaidan is such a fangirl, really:3
Oh wow this is just all so cute and sexy. I hope more games come along and I hope this romance continues :)
Only if Shepard didn't die in the end!
@@River_Frostthere is a way shepard survives!
Yes when you're at the club with Cortez, you can flirt/dance with him ... but if you say you want to be more than friends at that point it locks you into the romance with him ... if you do this after you're locked in with Kaidan, he comments on it
I thought I DID have the romance dinner, but then it didn't lead to any future romance.
I'm getting the game. I wish they did stuff like this with skyrim, where you could make your own relationship questline or something, i'm excited to get this game :3
There's just something about 2 manly men 🤩🤩🤩
I kind of feel bad for Shepard!
Kaidan Alenko is so dreamy. :)
thank you :) i love this romance its my fave :)
Well, i guess that answers the question. Now we know that Shepard prefers to be Little spoon rather than Big spoon.
35:06 I nearly cried when he delivered that line.
"WE HAVE TO LEAVE THE SOL SYSTEM." BEST LINE.
Kaidan Alenko, putting the "Bi" in Biotic since 2007
I love both Femshep and Mshep romance with Kaidan.
Dat naughty eye-brow lift at 32:33...
Man, maybe I'm just horrible, but near the end I hoped he would pick the 'You're an evil distraction' option B:
renegay for life
For the love of- Can't we just watch this video, thank the nice poster for uploading it and get on with our day without starting a debate about homosexuality?
Good upload, love the romance buildup.
This is so damn cute it's awesome.
I was going to say something about LiaraxKaiden, but then I watched this video.
this was better than the femshep X Kadian
Since I modded my game in order to simulate a romance between Kaidan and Shep in ME2, the dialogue on Mars was exactly as it was when it's Femshep romancing Kaidan. :)
Gonna cut my hair soon. Who has better haircut out of:
Kaidan
Shepard
Bailey
I might be a bit biased and late but I'd say Kaidan... But it was obviously up to you...
Amazing relationship! thanks a lot for sharing this.
what is the last song in the vid?
I keep wondering why they didn't did the same with ashley, as a Femshep you don't really have manny options besides garrus (don't get me wrong, i love him, but it's him or kaidan, not much room for more)
What about Traynor?
There's also Samantha and Liara for Femshep. Garrus and Kaidan are the only male options for her. (Of course that's just in Mass Effect 3; you've got Jacob and Thane in Mass Effect 2.)
Blackheartick
FemShep - ME1 Kaidan/Liara.
+livelypaint Steve Cortez is the only fully gay romance option an traynor is the only fully lesbian character
haytham kenway I know, I was saying I like Samantha. She's a great romance option who isn't garrus, IMO.
I have to say I'm surprised they put this in- there's a lot of lesbian action out there in sci-fi, but this is the first gay option I've come across.
Ahhh ok! I was romancing both Kaiden and Cortez, and I guess you can only do one or the other? Maybe Kaidan got discouraged?
Thanks!
You my good lady (im assuming) need a medal. like now.
Why is there female voice when maleshep jumps into the normandy in the start? :D 1:02 the exact time
The Brokeback Effect
Thanks you very much for this. It's great.
Holy hell that bedroom scene was hot
