This is an excellent tip! I'm just learning the riq, (I'm lucky to have an 8 1/2" Cooperman with fish skin and also a Cooperman Hedjira,) but have been playing dumbec and other drums since the 70s. Thank You! Subscribed! :)
Thanks so much. I have a question about the riqs without tuning pegs, are they tuneable? The problem is, I'm left handed and just got a right handed riq with pegs, which make it very difficult, actually impossible, to bring out my full potential in playing. How would the tuning work with riqs without the pegs?
Yes, there are several makers offering riqs with internal tuning mechanisms. The one I'm using in this video is made by Cooperman. In another video I demonstrate one by Lev Elman. These riqs use an internal tension hoop that places tension on the skin from underneath. Some other makers with internal tuning systems include: Titus Riqs, Kevork (very hard to get and expensive), Nakhle, Eli Huli, Emin. These makers all use recessed counterhoops that line up with the frame and internal mechanisms. There are many others makers. Good luck on your search!

When I was having a problem controlling the sound of the jingles, Glen Velez told me to think of it as a hi-hat and that helped a lot.
Extremely useful, thank you!!!
Good video!
Much appreciate

Go to Salamuzik dot com. Quality at a good price. Istanbul. The ones mentioned above are too pricey imho. Not everyone is rich...lol
Riqs are neither right nor left handed. I'm ambidextrous and can play it either way.
Es espectacular... Pero no se ve como hace el movimiento o los movimientos
