To those asking why he's using such a high ISO.. it's to increase the power of the flash. Using a high shutter speed will decrease the amount of ambient light in the exposure, simultaneously bumping up the ISO will increase the cameras sensitivity to the flashes..
I enjoyed your tutorial. I'm wondering if there is a reason for the high ISOs which you displayed at the end of the video. With those shutter speeds I would think you could have lowered the ISOs somewhat unless there was a specific reason. Thanks.
Hi,exceptional work!Do you know what the higher shutter speed you can use with eos1d mark iv and 600ex-rt as master flash? Its like a normal 580?Can be used with 580s as slave units? Thanks in advance.
Powermichiel - composition is dictated by the style of the photographer, some you will like some you don't. In my opinion he's great. Now the reason you didn't get hired for this shoot - shutter speed controls ambient light, the faster the s/s the less ambient light. By increasing your iso you are stopping up, which increases your shutter speed. You have a lot to learn. Cheers
Hi! I have bought 600EX-RT and i use canon 7D. i want to do wireless flash shooting. what will be my settings? is there any tutorial or can you please guide? thanks.
+Jay Patel We can only verify the Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT works with specific Canon Speedlite flashes that have radio functionality. Hope this answers your question!
Great question! You can enable a beep to sound when the flash is fully charged or when a slave unit is fully charged during radio wireless transmission shooting. The beep you heard in the video was Bruce's flash being ready to go for another shot. This lets Bruce know without having to look at the flash that was sitting off to his side. We hope this information helps!
Thank you very much for your answer. i didn't knew the new model canon speed lights 600ex-rt have this capability, because till today i knew the Nikon had that capability to ready recycling buzzer notifying sound, thus every time i had thinking, way canon not embedding small notification buzzer inside the speed lights !? thus now that's in there Best Regards Dr.Naghshpoor
This Is ...Using 600 mm working distance between camera and subject would be to great. Atmospheric distortion would come into play also aperture size 400mm is wider .
ISO 800, SS 1/1600, F4 and another one; ISO 800, SS 1/2500, F4. Why the heck such high ISO settings ? What for ? She is standing practically still ! Could anybody explain these ludicrous high ISO settings please ? I am serious and i would like to know. The camera is on a tripod !
I don't mean to disrespect you but this composition is bad, very bad. Where are the suitcases ? Do they go into the plane or into the car ? In any way those suitcases would not be there. Why not park the car behind the wing ? Why do we only see the tail of the plane ? Nobody would sit next to the hot radiator of a 4x4 ! I have seen more vids but i just don't get this guy ! Give the assignments to me ;-)
now THOSE are portraits. Absolutely beautiful.
I love Bruce Dorn's work. It's great to see a master at work.
Excellent video. I'm sold on getting more speedlites now. Thanks.
Looks very interesting

at the start of the video he say's he wanted to test the long range capabilities of canons new radio flash system this is the reason for the 400mm :)
good stuff...i just started using my flashes more than toting around my strobes....I did realize the possibilities I was missing out on :)

@Bruce Dorn I admire your work. Do you have a www?
What is the buzzer beep sound at 5:26 ? The 600ex-rt has a beep buzzer

But wouldn't have given as compressed of a photo as the 400mm was able to do.
great images, but a 400mm? 70-200mm or a 200mm prime would have done the same.
Anyone care to discuss using a 600mm instead of the 400 mm for the shot here?

Most amateur photographers would not have the money for all these equipment. How about some tutorials with equipment people can actually afford?
Why do images of nature can not be natural ? I think on the face of the model.
Very good pictures, but this contradiction is killing my opinion.
