    Notice she said "within one month." For those who want immediate gratification --- YOU'VE GOT IT! I'm 80 years old --- when my Doc said I was pre-diabetic --- I got serious about my diet and within a few months my numbers are great, I lost 25 pounds, my BMI is spot on, and I'm off high blood pressure meds. I'm saying --- IT"S NEVER TOO LATE TO GET HEALTHIER!

    Physicians who are open minded enough and humble enough to change their mindset once they see improvement in a patient, even if the road to that improvement is the result of the patient not taking the most orthodox path to get there, deserves our respect. Dr. Bhakti Paul's willingness to look at a patient's improvement, and change her perspective on how to approach type 2 diabetes, is emblematic of a mindset that more doctors should adopt.

      I must disagree……Most Physicians here in Australia are NOT open minded at all. My type 2 diabetes has improved with keto diet. When I told my endocrinologist what I ate and I took more salt, he got furious with me ( absolutely became red in the face) and told me not to come back. He told me it would raise my blood pressure. This was even though I was off 4 medications for BP elevation and it as normal. I didn’t even understand what his point was.

My desire is to have someone like her that would help me as an individual. I hear her dealing with everybody according to their body, not the school books. As a patient, when first diagnosed with T2 Diabetes, all I heard was that this would result in needing to take away a bunch of foods that I was used to eating. For a short time, I really thought to myself, how would life be worth living if you have to take away all this good stuff? When I found Carnivore and realized that I could eat many of the foods I did like, steak, chicken, pork, etc, that I loved all my life, I changed my view to one that I got to eat many of the foods that traditionally were restricted. That perception of how one will live is very powerful. I really think that approach of what can you eat instead of what can't you eat makes a difference.

My sugars are better, my Chronic Kidney Disease has improved, triglycerides have lowered, and I’ve dropped 40lbs. Now I have started talking with my parents who are both diabetic, obese, and have other issues like A-fib, no Thyroid, and heart disease. I want to help them down this path but I’m nervous for their health and doing this properly. They don’t have doctors who are open to the Low Carb lifestyle. But I see how it can change their lives. I’m watching these videos for advice and knowledge on how to proceed for their future health. Thank you for covering such a helpful topic.

    Dr. Paul is my hero!!! I've been working with Dr. Paul for 3 months, and my A1c has dropped by 1.4 points. The CGM has made all the difference in helping me understand what foods most negatively impact my blood sugar. I discovered my enemy is grains more than sugar. I'm a data nerd, and being able to see how long I'm staying in target, what my average glucose is, what makes my blood sugar skyrocket gives me the information I need to make well-informed decisions. I would have to be pricking my finger 15 times a day to get the information I gain from the CGM. Dr. Paul has changed my life, and I am confident within the next six months, I will be in the 5's and on my way to reversing diabetes.

    So spot on. I started Keto with no knowledge but persistently scoured the internet and stumbled on the low carb down under algorithms which brought me to the many informative videos, this one included. I found use of metformin to throw me in to low glucose events when used as directed. My diabetic nurse seing my health journal and how many times I was using my glucometer set me up with my first CGM. I never looked back. After six months, I was fortunate to find a Dr who is now working with me as I move toward a sustainable metabolic health lifestyle. A 1 c when diagnosed was 7.5 mmol/ l after 4 months was 5.2 mmol/l . Canadian units of measurement. At 8 months my weight has dropped from 270 lb to 190 lb. My desire to seek out a Coach / Physican was to get guidance and assurance with nutritional choices. I do keep my protein in the 1.6 g/ kg based on what my BMI would rate me as an ideal weight. Thanks for this informative guest. I think I got an A+ scoring myself on this information.

    I like her approach to diabetes. Since being diagnosed as a T2D with an initial A1c of 9.8%, I've been focused on the "Blood Sugar Number" trying to get that number to normal (80-100) number. My Aic is now in the 5.4-5.7 range. I am now starting to focus on a range of "Blood Sugar Numbers" instead of obsessing over a static number. Originally, I had setup a range for myself of 85-150 which I have since changed to 80-130.

    A newly diagnosed type2 in 2006, I was immediately treated with Insulin. I didn’t know any better. I was treated by an Endocrinologist who had a nurse practitioner. I found out later, she had included me in a study of closely controlled blood sugars . I would calculate how much insulin to take based on grams of carbs,ie 5 units per 15 grams of carbs. This kept my A1C about 6.8.
    I’m furious to have learned I was never given a lifestyle choice. I fact I was counsel by ADA to consume 240 grams per day: 60 at three meals and 30 each for two snacks.

      @@skinnydee1886 no no, caffeine doesn’t raise my sugar but if I take tea or coffee by itself, the caffeine affects me more…increased acid production and gave me jitters, so I had to eat something along with caffeinated drinks and that unnecessarily increased my food intake (even though I wasn’t really hungry for food). So, I decided to completely stop drinking tea, coffee or any soda.

    Wow !!! I did all but unfortunately all by myself. I started low carb, insisting having CGM and get off the insulin and other meds by losing 40 lbs. the suggestions or guidelines did NOT come from my doctors at Kaiser. They didn’t talk to me about low carb or do more eat less or calories in / out. They didn’t tell me why I have done all and failed miserably by losing almost my left eye. Of course there was no hesitation on giving me more and more and more medicine. My doctor still doesn’t like or even approve what I am doing and I can see she is waiting for I told you so moment. I have nothing to lose anymore except weight. I am not even mad at them for giving me wrong advice. Although I can’t believe they -the whole Kaiser system- didn’t know better. Obviously now I am on my own and I think this way is better for everyone.

    Is strict diet good for a diabetic patient?

    • @fusedchromosome9350
      @fusedchromosome9350 2 роки тому +2

      Keeping carbs low is best for diabetics. It allows the body to recover from insulin resistance and reverses a multitude of problems. It can take a few weeks for the body to adapt to low carb so be sure to increase electrolytes to avoid feeling tired and sluggish. Most diabetics can reverse in a matter of months. Healthy fats and protein are your friends. Carbs are not essential but are ok in moderation as long as they come from whole natural foods. Nothing processed and it’s best to avoid grains. Stick to vegetables and small amounts of berries like strawberry, blackberry, raspberry, blueberry. No tropical fruit. fructose is hard on the liver like alcohol. You’ll feel so much better even before any noticeable weight loss. Also, lowering carbs will minimize or negate the need for diabetes medication. Best to let your doctor know you are cutting down on carbs though many doctors still push carbs as essential which is patently false. Your liver manufactures glucose quite effectively from fat.
