I don't understand how exactly to practice scales with backing tracks. I know how to match up the chords but how exactly the scales are practiced. This is where I'm struggling a lot
im using this for improvising. i kinda have the same doubt as you, but basically what im doing is just exprimenting, playing "randomly" the notes of the G major scale and trying to do something that sounds good.
a tip that my acoustic guitar teacher gave me is to not expand too much in the scale, you not necessarily need to use entirely the scale while improvising because that may confuse the ideas, so i kinda stick with the "middle" and the "top" part of the scale while trying to figure out how to sound good

If you know your pentatonics, and understand the minor and major scales, than experiment. Scales are written in stone, but your imagination isn't
Shearch for pentatonic scale
Its really fun jamming with backing tracks. It all starts with getting familiarised with scales and chords and their combinations(major and minor). Then create small phrases to go along with. As long as you are within key, you should be good. Try to create song lines in your head and express it in notes on the guitar.
