    Looks like you had a hard time for that beautiful Maine gobbler. If your back in Maine turkey hunting, you stop back by and say hey! That little lady is my mother, and your welcome to stop back. I hope you don't think Maine folks are like that. He doesn't like me either. Great show!

    Buddy guy must think he runs the town with that M18, sawzall that is. Kudos to the woman for allowing permission in front of the control freak. It's good to see that most land owners are willing to grant permission. We as hunters need to be vigilant and report any signs of trespassing and poaching to stop these clowns from wrecking it for all of us. Excellent job THP!

    One of the best things to do in that situation is bring them a turkey breast after you kill the bird. I have done that on numerous occasions because I’m truly thankful for the permission. I never ask for future permission but it’s often offered on the spot. I once smoked it first and showed up to the landowner’s house 2 hours away. That fella was in shock! But good turkey ground can be hard to come by and they sure as heck don’t have to give you permission.

      A lot of people are fed up from bad experiences. We had so many poachers come on our land, they shot our dog and trashed the land with garbage and beer bottles. It gets old. And eventually you can start to be pretty over sensitive about it. (I didn’t watch the video lol so I don’t know how the guy was acting who yelled, just sharing my experience)

    also if what the guy was saying is true, then i think he's rightly frustrated. regardless of whether or not he's the land owner he still lives there. You guys are an example of what being a good hunting ambassador is all about and how to be kind and polite to people. obviously he shouldn't be taking his frustrations out on you, but getting defensive and confrontational isn't the best course of action. from what i saw, you guys handled that perfectly! I think that interaction also goes to show that our frustration as hunters should not be with grumpy land owners who have deal with assholes, but the asshole poachers that are ruining things for us.

    People from Maine are different.. most are incredible as I'm sure you experienced and it's probably my favorite state out of the 33 I've been to but a few have no grasp on reality. I live in NH and I see "flat lander go home" signs on occasion and last year while fly fishing a guy actually told me to leave. I tried to explain to the gentleman that was a logger and ironically owned 2 rental cottages that us flat landers support your way of life. Literally! Unfortunately he didn't understand and it ruined his day for nothing. I'm glad you guys made it to the North East!

    • @jcarry5214
      @jcarry5214 2 роки тому +1

      Sounds like you got dangerously close to feeling like that local owed you something for your patronage. You really ought to steer clear of that. There's a long and ongoing history of rural New Englanders just barely surviving while being told they should be grateful for the company of the people gentrifying their working class towns, complaining about farm activity, closing traditional community trails, and screaming at them for fishing in front of their cottages. If, and I mean if, it was true that a high than average number of locals are delusional there are a lot of reasons why they'd be that way. Did you know Maine has an extremely high rate of severe clinical anxiety and poverty to go along with crippling tax rates that still don't cover basic funding of schools, roads, and environmental services? Think about that next time you look at a local and feel like they really ought to be grateful. When I was a kid were were the country's leading pioneers in suicide, layoffs, dropout, child pregnancies, and we had enough latent injuries that we were heavily targeted as receptive in the early days of the opioid problem. There were towns that make stories about West Virginia sound like the rat pack in Vegas. Meanwhile we still had plenty of magnanimous tourists telling us how good they were for propping the economy up. It's not untrue, but just bear in mind that the person you're telling that to is absolutely familiar with third world problems and knows at least two people who live in an actual tarpaper shack.
      Just so we're on the same page.

      J carry I think you should read my post again and actually read the words without distorting them with your preconceived views. I said Maine is my favorite place, the people are amazing but a FEW are not, which you could say about anywhere. The local fisherman did 100% owe me something, don't make a snide comment then engage me, my wife and toddler son in a public parking lot on public water because my license plate is different. And don't engage me if your a hypocrite and can't back it up. He chose the discussion, and answered my simple questions. You don't want me on the public river but you have rental cottages on public lake? So as long as he's profiting it's OK. The guy in the video that called the cops then yelled at Aaron, with what some might consider a threatening weapon (I'm not a snowflake so I don't) was getting upset over his preconceived notions about land he didn't own. That's as close as it gets to not having a grasp on reality as it gets, just like the fishermen that chose to engage a family on public land. As far as everything else you wrote, does not apply to my comment. I find it hard to believe non locals are closing down trails.. unless it's in their land then unfortunately it's their right. Not saying that's right, but it's their land. The opioid crisis hit everyone, not rual towns. I grew up extremely privileged, with very privileged friends all playing sports, taking several family vacations a year and the majority (more then half) all stuck needles in their arm. Me included. I was homeless for a point, in jail a little bit but 15 years later I got it together. I'm married with kids, own a business and extremely fortunate. So when I'm being grateful for my second chance at life and wanting to enjoy this beautiful world I don't need to hear BS from someone about their opinion. After all isn't this the hunting public channel????

    • @jcarry5214
      @jcarry5214 2 роки тому

      @@joeywhitehouse6011 You think you can make comments in a public forum while being exempt from the odious presence of someone else's opinion? Especially when they're probably obtuse? are you new here or just a twit?
      You mentioned that some mainers have a tendency to be out of touch. I would say many are, not a few. It's a fairly backward place. Then I explained why that might be, in case you ever felt the itch of self awareness or curiosity. Apparently such a tickle is offensive to you.
      And yeah your guy at the boat launch was an idiot, that type of behavior is extremely prevalent in a few regions, it's almost a sport and that sucks to know. But to deflect and willfully miss the point that there are underlying reasons that some of these backwoods folks are extremely twitchy, like decades of being alienated by the system and being taken advantage of by people with more money who don't have to struggle to be there, is frankly disingenuous.
      Accuse me of BS because you accidentally learned something, good one. Musta been the captain of your debate team. Background information is germane you the half-flawed, "preconceived" judgements you are making, including about information that I shared.
      Closing down rights of way you don't like with mounds of gravel is probably not how a reasonable person who expects community support should behave, no? Sawing trees across established pathways and making trails dangerous to use without warning or notification when deeds change hands is pretty gross, and you know it. It didn't stop these nonresidents from expecting help when they needed it, and they were given the help anyway. Don't dismiss my experiences. You only prove my preconceived views right when you do.
      Joey, I didn't distort anything, and you've proven that my comprehension was 100 percent perfect, including a guess that you were going to glom onto my mention of opioids to somehow equate your sense of being wronged with the grinding, crippling stress that generations of poverty and bad luck brings. Bad treatment and bad luck start to define a culture when we're disconnected from the rest of the country, and that's how it becomes normal to treat people like you and aaron got treated. I hate it, and I've been on the receiving end of that behavior, but it's beyond most people's scope of experience to even imagine how that becomes a way to interact with people. You keep using "preconceived" like having a pragmatic, learned concern is an automatically bad thing, like learning patterns of behavior is a flawed way of guessing what's going on. It's actually a tremendous skill that poor people get really good at. That's an anthropological fact. That jackass probably lives there and has seen his relative/landlord be misused by locals and out of staters alike. I mean, he's clearly off the handle and lacking some social skills, has seriously bad anxiety that he probably self medicates, and he's taking his rage out in the wrong place, but I've sat in my house with the lights off while poachers shot and butchered deer on the lawn in the middle of the night, knowing if we called the police we'd be antagonized, and I've seen friends and my mother left with no recourse after trespass and destroy property, and I've seen broke people have to take offers on their land that are a tenth of what it's resold for to wealthier people. Do you think it's actually insane to get territorial when you're uneducated and see that your whole life?
      I do hope you get to enjoy Maine, I can't right now, but I also hope you get to understand it a little more deeply and learn to take it as a whole instead of believing you can cherry pick and write people off as crazy losers without even trying to understand it.

    Sorry guys. You'll probably find the guy isn't a native Mainiac. I see you made it to the island. Great place to spend a few days. Late season in Maine is a way for them to let the hens breed before the toms get thinned out, It seems to be working.

      Yes, a not quite year-old male during spring hunts. Nubs for spurs and a 2-4 inch beard. Also the center of the fan will have tail feathers several inches longer that the rest. They will gobble, strut and breed if they can. Usually a legal bird.

    While asking permission is always recommended it’s not necessary in Maine for land that is not properly posted. So as long as you’re 100yds from a structure and your bullet/shot/arrow doesn’t pass within 100yds it’s completely legal to hunt un posted private property.
