  • When friends and family ask about buying a bus I ALWAYS suggest they purchased a used or half built bus. There are tons of people that get all caught up on Insta pictures of finished skoolies and think it will be easy. Give it 2 or 3 or even 7 months and all of the sudden they tap out. This is where guys like Ray come in, purchase a bus for pennies on the dollar, and builds his own project.

Ray is THE bus dude! A perfect balance of fantasy & reality in his builds- I want him to have his own conversion business! He’s an endless supply of smart tips, realistic advice, PMA, & willingness to learn by trial & error. I love his creativity, his spirit, his work ethic, not to mention the nods & respect he gives to his wife ... he could host anything & make me feel good about it. Keep it up, Ray! 🌈🌞

You are so great to share everything you do, how to save money, etc. I'm one of those who wants to travel around in a bus but we physically can't convert one so my husband isn't interested (we've both had multiple spine surgeries). I live vicariously through you and others like you. The only negative, now after watching this video I want a bus again! Thanks again for all you share!

Hi Ray! Looks like you've hit another homer. I love the build and the honesy and advice in this presentation. I am starting a second build after 15 years in my first Skoolie. The old 1978 Blue Bird (a 35 foot Transit) is still a good running old bus, but modern turns are calling me. I am hankering to get a newer suspension and quieter drive train and power system. So at 70 years old I embark on another ground up project. Your solid advise aboute scheduleing and comitment are inspiring and I love that your spouse is a close consultant. Keep up the good work and commitment.

This guy should sell his builds. I'd pay extra for his labor. I like his thinking on most of these: what you need to enjoy a trip or the ability to customize it later. Very smart! I don't know if you're still checking this video, but I'd would be interested in a custom build. This one is larger than we need.

This could also be a great way to provide homes for people who don't have much money. They would have a roof to sleep under, and living off-grid is much more affordable since tiny spaces and vehicles cost a lot less to keep and maintain.

You need to add a pretty hammock and a hammock chair!!! And IKEA has the easy bamboo window shades and they look cool and can be trimmed to size and are not expensive. It just goes with the tiki vibe. Also, your fake rock on the wall should be your fake heater or wood stove :) and maybe even some more larger palms even if fake and minimalist lighting with led bulbs that up shine into them and shed the leaf pattern onto the tin roof. Basically I love what you have done. Also, if you do upholster your “bar” seats (which can actually be the dining area or even the office area) use Reyna Spooner shirts. (Very collectible and notable vibe). The furniture you should be looking for should be “mid century modern” and there’s a lot of teak stuff with clean lines and often made of teak that could be added for storage.

Nice bus. By bringing down the metal roof closes in the space.

I’m dying to see his smaller bus!!! I don’t care for the ceiling. What else if wood is too hard? Maybe fabric? Or like a cool tapestry? And that heater - doesn’t that block your visibility? I think he should use that peel and stick Paneling for the shower walls yes?

The ceiling is giving me tunnel vision and makes the space seen so dark and small.
