As far as I can tell, the disk stacks don’t come apart. I’ve been trying to come up with a tool or bush to get in between but had no luck. If they get moldy, I put the stacks in a plastic bucket of water with a few drops of bleach. Then I rinse and use a toothbrush around the perimeter. I’ve also tried scrubbing bubbles bathroom cleaner. To sanitize I sometimes use a steam cleaner and blow steam in between the disks. Short of a power washer, I’ve yet to find a great solution.
The Venta is a very good humidifier. If you use an ultrasonic humidifier for long, a thin, microsize scale layer will cover everything in the room. It takes time, it needs several months, maybe a year, but everything will be covered a very hard to remove, very thin white scale-coat. So you can't use an ultrasonic humidifier for long because it only sprays the water, it's not real vapour. A used a heated device even, this effect appeared later but it was there. So you need a real water evaporizer and this is that. This clicking noise was my nightmare, because this device is awesome anyway. Thank you sooooo much you saved my life.
Glad the video was helpful. I much prefer the Ventas over the ultrasonic models. It’s neat to see the steam coming out of an ultrasonic, but I had the same issue with a coating of mineral deposits left on everything. I can’t imagine it’s healthy to breathe that stuff in.
This is one of the clearest DIY videos I've seen on YT. You are so concise yet well-spoken. I didn't have a grinding noise, but the flip fixed my case of the fan not spinning (resulting in the red malfunction light). Thank you!
Thank you for the tutorial. Like many others, it solved the clicking noise. However, mine still had a faint click even after the flipping. I had to lightly lube the coupling hole. Finally ZERO clicking!
This did the trick, many thanks! Also, because I pulled out the coupling, I had to figure out how to reconnect them right, and eventually I did - and I'm no engineer! Your tutorial gave me courage :)
I don't know what I would do without you! Thank you so much for this great tutorial. Worked perfectly, no more clacking and finally really clean again. 👍 up and five ⭐️
God bless you, Bruce. You solved my problem - the discs weren't turning on my Venta LW 44. Merry Christmas to you and your family! Greetings from Belgrade, Serbia.
I was about to throw my Venta away because it was completely filthy. Then I discovered your video and unscrewed it, cleaned everything and now it's like new. Thank you for this great video!
So glad the video was helpful! I have less of an issue cleaning the upper housing than cleaning the disk stacks. Cleaning the disks is one of my least favorite things to do at the end of the winter season. Every year I say I'm going to invent the perfect tool/brush to clean in between the disks. 😃
Wow, my unit is like 20 years old, and I have replaced the gear box twice, but both times under Venta's excellent guaranty. Was about to buy a new one on my own this time when I found your video, and BINGO, back in business until this side wears out!
First, thank you VERY MUCH! My relatively new Venta (about 2 years old) started making a slight clicking sound at the beginning of this heating season, which I simply ignored because the unit seemed to be operating OK otherwise. Yesterday the trouble light came on as soon as the unit was turned on, and it was evident that the fan was immobile. I checked the power connection, etc., but got the same result repeatedly. On the chance that your video might help, I followed your instructions faithfully and VOILA! The unit is perfect once again. I cannot thank you enough!
Wow! Thank you so much for the very clear and detailed explanation. The clicking started last night and was so irritating that I finally turned the humidifier off. Then neither of us could sleep the rest of the night due to hearing every creak of the house and even our own heartbeat. Terrible long night. I was so happy to find your UA-cam video. It worked like magic!
Many people appreciated this video and said that they were also suffering from this issue and this trick sorted out their issue. It means Venta’s QC and QA Departments needs attention.
Amazing. Worked like a charm. At first, I thought it was the cable being on the side of the disc handle. This video helped loads. The clicking was driving me nuts. Instead of taking the gear off the coupling, I just rotated it!
Wow this worked for me as well! Amazingly clear instructions and I love that you mention the issue upfront. I still watched the entire video to actually learn how to fix it, thank you!
I really did not think this would work. Thanks I am now getting a peaceful sleep thanks. Also this also the machine 😀helps my wife's dry eye as we sleep.
UA-cam gold! As a german I can approve we are making mistakes because human. I am litterally delighted to see, there are still products made in the free world to be disassembled and to be maintained to last.
Thanks for your help. I also wanted to fix the rattling noise and first I tried it like you by turning the gear unit, but that didn't fix it for me. So I opened the plastic housing of this gear unit(you can use a small knife to go in between the housing to detach the clips that hold the three housing parts together), cleaned it and applied some new grease. Now the Venta runs without any rattling noises anymore:)
Thanks.....Mine is 3 yrs old and this season just started w with that clicking noise......followed your process and all is quite again. Thanks so much.
Thanks for the video, worked for a while. Found out that clicking was due to worn lubrication in the gears. Tried dry PTFE lubrication on the gears after opening box, but it lasted only a short time. Simple solution found, added 2 drops of liquid soap into the opening between the black teeth and the clicks disappeared. May need to add more when clicks come back. Update: 2 drops of cooking oil work better.
You just earned a subscriber!! This was the quickest fix I ever did in my entire household handyman fixing career! It’s taking me longer to write this comment then it was to follow your instructions, but seriously you deserve praise for this. I’ve taken everything apart on my venta (least I thought I did) and cleaned everything and it was still making the clicking sound. I couldn’t figure it out for three years and just dealt with it!! I have one in every room for my kids eczema. Talk about great value! Thank you so much.
Man, thanks so much! This didn't actually directly resolve my issue, but it did inspire me to take a better look at the positioning of that motor. Turns out that motor (LW45) on one side wasn't properly clicked in place into the black 'bracket' part. It's very easy to overlook actually!
I have never been expecting and believing to find such a great and perfect video about exactly my problem! Thanks a lot! I am sure, my VENTA will live for many years again
Worked perfectly! Thanks for the tip. I will open, clean and lube it next time when it appears but I'm just happy to have peace and quiet for now again. It's a shame that companies create parts that are designed to fail regularly to get some additional on going income. I'd rather pay a bit more on the initial buy or the water additive.
I completely agree! Speaking of the water additive, I wish there was an easy way to clean the disk stacks. Every few weeks I fill the bottom with white vinegar and soak the disk stacks, but there’s still a brown residue on the disks after a month. I usually use a tooth brush to clean as much off as possible, but a toothbrush doesn’t go very deep. It’s a headache!
Woohoo! I replaced my gear last year, and was very frustrated when it wasn't turning this winter. I too had the clicking sound. Your video solved the problem!
@@BruceAlanR My excitement was short lived. The gears rotated when I spun the fan, but didn't work in the machine. I then tried taking the gear box apart and cleaning it, and thought for sure it would work. Still only worked for a second. Upon inspection, I saw that a portion of the teeth were worn down on the gear. So...I need another new gear box. Since Venta doesn't warranty replacement parts, I either need to buy another new gear box, or just throw away the airwasher.
Sorry to hear that! The teeth of my gearbox don’t appear to have worn down at all in 3 seasons (10 seasons with our older model). Have you tried flipping the disk stack the other direction to see if the teeth catch?
@@BruceAlanR The teeth on one section of the gear are too deteriorated to catch. I'm hoping they haven't started making the gears out of an inferior material. My first gear box lasted several seasons.
Thank you! I purchased my LW 44 Classic in Dec 2002. It still works great! I have replaced the gear a couple of times but never thought to try this. I just did it. Took 1 minute. Works great!!
A day later it was making a new different subtle quieter clicking noise. This time, I sprayed a little food-grade lubricant in the gearbox. Silent ever since!!
Fixed mine a bit differently, I just brought up the fins a little higher to meet the teeth. Worked just as well but much easier. I will say that this is an extremely expensive humidifier that this should not happen to. I am extremely dissapointed with Venta's engineering, they have had this same clicking problem for decades.
Interesting James! Thank you for sharing. Just curious, how were you able to bring the fins up? I agree that for such an expensive unit, you would think they’d have figured out how to prevent this common problem. We have two of these and recently the newer one started turning off as if it is out of water (even though it’s got plenty of water). I ended up taking the top of the unit apart and cleaning it. Seems to have corrected the problem, but mechanically I haven’t figured out what caused it in the first place.
Hard to describe without images but here goes: The rotating fins sit in a carriage which in turn sits on a ledge in the moulded unit. In the center of the carriage unit there is a small space to attach a plastic clip on either side that raises the unit up about 0.5 -1 mm. That is all it needs to work properly. I honestly think that the although the piece was engineered properly for a dry rotation, the weight of the water on the rotating fans help drag the rotating unit down just that tiny bit. And of course the sound that everyone hears is of the pins of the fan clicking on the roating unit but not rotating it. To me it is just unacceptable engineering. Really tired of consumer product problems. I used to watch an American show when I was young called "Fight Back with David Horowitz", we need more people like him in all countries. It is a freaking shame that someone like yourself has to tell people how to fix a problem that should have never existed in the first place. Regardless of my rant, thanks for the alternative fix!
James Caldwell Your fix makes sense to me. I’ll try it if the clicking comes back. Thanks for the info! There are a lot of QC issues on products these days. That show sounds fascinating.
In addition, you can try fix this problem in another way. The pins does not reach a ledges due to weakening flat springs in a holders of a gearbox. You need to pull out a both springs and to straightening that to more flat condition and to put in back. Thus, a gearbox to be more tough to press on a ledges. The next step, it's to reach easy rotation a washing wheel. To easeing rotation It is necessary regularly removal сalcium deposits with lemon acid or special cleanin agent.
Thank you for the video. It was 100% helpful to me! I read the manual on how to clean the gears but it was like trying to read Chinese algebra. Your video broke it down to where even I could do it. Thank you, once again!
wow, it worked. Thank you for posting this video. But for me when I flipped the stepping gears I noticed the plastic spindle that attaches to the circular disk wasn't fully pressure fitted to the motor....meaning it was skipping every time the motor turned it (fixed).....it must of wiggled loose switching between speeds! seems the whole Venta system internals are modular and meant to be easily disassembled.....so they can also become easily become loose because nothing is fixed!
Such a helpful video! Clicking started on mine about two months after I bought it, kept thinking I had the disc stack flipped the wrong way and it was driving me nuts. Just tried this and the clicking is gone! Definitely needed a dust wipe on the inside too so that was good 😅. Thank you!!
i have LW-15. basically, it has 2 type of noise on normal situation. 1. a air flow noise. (air pressure sound from fan. it is just quiet white noise. couldn't become problem to me.) 2. a little rattling noise. ( quivering, shivering, but not sharp sound. so not big problem but makes rusty mood) and i heard a big clicking noise from start section of this video, it looks different with 1, 2 type of basic noise. i call it as type 3 noise. which is got some problem and not normal condition. btw, i wanted to resolve type 2 noise, and applied this method on my LW15, and nothing changed. but i love this video , because if it getting more big noise as time goes by, i can try this when out of warranty.
Have you tried reversing the gear box as shown in the video and you’re still getting the noise? I’ve just setup our Venta air washers for the season and they’re quiet (other than basic noise 1). If I have any new noises I’ll be sure to diagnose and try to remedy.
@@BruceAlanR Yes I have. I never experienced a clicking noise. When you are distant you hear white noise but up close you hear this soft quivering kind of noise, it kinda reminds me of a sea shore how it goes and comes. It doesn't bother me too much for now. EDIT: I was able to localize it, by testing every part separately. I hooked up the fan assembly apart from the housing (you have to press the safety button on the fan assembly side struts to turn on the fan) with and without the gear box. With the gear box it made the exact same noise. I guess it is the gears grinding a little bit. I think I need to grease them using a viscous food-grade oil. Preferably by taking it apart but I don't know where to start. I saw some people managed however.
Mine had the same clicking noise. So in my early search I happened to spin the fan by hand in both direction and I heard it happening again, but then it stopped. I put the top back in place and turned it on and now no noise, if it comes back I'll try what you did. I sure like these little units.
I’m so glad the fix has worked for you and many others. Since I posted this video, my unit hasn’t clicked once. I still haven’t had to replace any parts.
Glad it worked! I’ll be surprised if the noise starts again. I haven’t had the clicking noise return since I made the video. I believe that was 2 or 3 seasons ago.
Thank you, Bruce! Solved my problem. I went to the repair service center and they told me its all fine and everything is working how it suppose to. Didn't fix anything. The service center is not Venta exclusively, but general service. I still had a warranty on this humidifier but... they did nothing. So maybe you know why and how this clicking appears? This looks like a workaround, but will it be good for longer term?
Very welcome! It's hard to believe I posted the video 5 years ago. After the little trick I demonstrate in the video, our Venta hasn't made that clicking sound again in 5 years. I'd say it's a long-term solution.
@@BruceAlanR Ha, lol. Thanks man, I just found this brand of airwasher / humidifier due to the inheritance of a neighbor. We have a house heated by air, so a lot of air vents. But the house becomes very very dry. Mostly 45 % rel-hum. But sometimes even 31 % rel-hum. Hope it works to push the humidity up. The air is filtered all through the day, by the forced ventilation. About the icon, that comes from my work as a dentist. I really really loved the surgical bit of the work. Extractions / missing root tips / suturing and stuff. Sadly it's no longer my work, due to a neck-hernia due to work-environment. Right hand not working properly / dropping stuff and pain.
Since the Venta air washer uses cool evaporation to add humidity to the air, I find I have to run mine a lot more to maintain comfortable humidity levels. Different Venta models accommodate different room sizes, but you may already know that. I recommend getting a cheap hygrometer so you can monitor humidity levels if you don’t have one already (some thermostats can monitor humidity as well). Thanks for sharing your story and I hope your injuries heal. Cheers!
I turned gears around as you suggested, but still got "clicking" sounds. My LW44 model is around 15 years old, so it's probably time to replace the motor.
DANG IT... I just returned the damn thing after calling the 188 number 5 times with no response. Well, I had bought it today and ended up returning it same day. Little disappointed to return it as this seems like a easy fix but again, if after $550 I have to fix anything day 1 then I rather send it back. (the LW45 unit)
You should do trouble shooting/demos for a living. You explained and showed better demos then most large companies do.
Ha! Thanks for the kind words.

Thank you so much! I had the exact same problem and it was driving me nuts and I followed your video and it’s fixed. Aaaah sweet silence 😴
Glad it worked out!
Many thanks! 10 seconds to fix the problem that had been driving me up the wall. Great solution well explained.
Glad it was helpful! 😃👍
Great video. Tip worked perfect to a problem I’ve had for years.
Excellent! Time for me to get ours out for the season. I feel like I just cleaned them and put them away a few weeks ago. Ha!
Worked like a charm. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for leaving a comment!
Thanks! Solved it for me! I wonder what kind of sick human beings give a thumb down for someone who's trying to help. The world is a strange place.
Ha! Well, glad to have helped you. Thanks for leaving a comment!
wow, it worked.
Glad it worked out. It’s definitely modular construction.
Brilliant-thank you! Just found your excellent tutorial and it solved the clicking noise problem on my Venta. Well done!
You’re welcome! Cheers!
Omg, this totally worked. Thanks a lot, that was driving me crazy!
And venta needs to look at this! That’s the quality issue right here, which needs to be addressed
So happy the video was helpful. That clicking was driving us crazy and keeping us awake too.
Agreed!
Such a helpful video! Clicking started on mine about two months after I bought it, kept thinking I had the disc stack flipped the wrong way and it was driving me nuts. Just tried this and the clicking is gone! Definitely needed a dust wipe on the inside too so that was good 😅. Thank you!!
Excellent! Glad the video was helpful!
I had exactly the same problem and managed to fix it with your instructions. Thank you so much!
Very welcome! Glad it worked for you. Ours hasn’t made the clicking sound since I made the video.
Thanks. Fixed the sound on my 2 month old lw15 comfort plus.
Glad it was helpful. Thanks for leaving a comment.
You are a hero! I just fixed mine and the ticking noise is gone ! Thank you !
Aw! Very welcome! Glad it worked for you! Cheers!
Thank you so so much for taking the time to put this together, this saved me a big hassle of trying to get this fixed!
So glad it was helpful. Our Venta hasn’t clicked since I made this video years ago.
i have LW-15. basically, it has 2 type of noise on normal situation.
1. a air flow noise. (air pressure sound from fan. it is just quiet white noise. couldn't become problem to me.)
2. a little rattling noise. ( quivering, shivering, but not sharp sound. so not big problem but makes rusty mood)
and i heard a big clicking noise from start section of this video, it looks different with 1, 2 type of basic noise. i call it as type 3 noise. which is got some problem and not normal condition.
btw, i wanted to resolve type 2 noise, and applied this method on my LW15, and nothing changed.
but i love this video , because if it getting more big noise as time goes by, i can try this when out of warranty.
+SunsinDiary Thank you for leaving a helpful comment. As you’ve pointed out, some noises are normal based on the mechanics.
I have a quiet type 2 noise as well, did you find a fix?
Interesting. I’ll have to listen for that noise. Thanks for the tip on the safety button to get the fan to run once removed.
Thanks for this! I didn't have a clicking noise but this tutorial did help me fix another issue I was having.
Just curious what the issue was... just in case I eventually experience it. 😃
It's really worked, the horrible sound goes away, thanks for your Tipps😀
Very welcome! Glad the video was helpful!
Such a great advice and instructions! Thank you!
Very welcome! 😁👍
This resolved the same problem I had. Thank you so much!!
You're welcome! Glad it was helpful!
Fixed mine as well! Thank you so much!

Took 1 min and eliminated the noise. Thank you! UA-cam FTW.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for leaving a comment!
Super cool fix! Thank you so much.
Very welcome! It’s that time of year again. I’m about to get out our humidifiers for the season.
It worked flawlessly. Thank you!!!

This fixed our LW25. Brilliant. Thanks!
Very welcome! Glad the video was helpful.
Thank you, work great on my lw15.
Excellent! Glad the video was helpful.
This solved my problem. I owe you a beer.
Glad the video was helpful. 👍🍻
Thanks so much - that was exactly my problem too!! 👍🏼
Glad it worked out!
Mine had the same clicking noise. So in my early search I happened to spin the fan by hand in both direction and I heard it happening again, but then it stopped. I put the top back in place and turned it on and now no noise, if it comes back I'll try what you did. I sure like these little units.
Thanks for sharing that info. 😃👍
I had the exact same problem and this worked like a charm. Thank you so much for posting this!
You’re welcome. Glad it worked!
Fantastic! Thanks! Solved my problem.
I’m so glad the fix has worked for you and many others. Since I posted this video, my unit hasn’t clicked once. I still haven’t had to replace any parts.
It works for me, I have identical clicking noise with the one in the video, solve it in one minute! Thanks!
Excellent! 👍
Thanks a lot👍🏻Greetings from Germany🙂
Excellent! I’m glad the video was helpful. 😁
Wow!
Thank you so much, it really worked!
Very welcome!
That was so specific for my exact problem. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
It worked for me, I have the LW45 comfort plus and the clicking noise started after 1 month. I hope it won't start again...
Glad it worked! I’ll be surprised if the noise starts again. I haven’t had the clicking noise return since I made the video. I believe that was 2 or 3 seasons ago.
Also worked for me, thank you! The noise was driving me nuts!
Thank you so much for this Vedic! It helps!
Glad it was helpful!
Great Video -solved the Problem. Thanks from Switzerland...
I’m glad it was helpful! My sister lives in Switzerland. It’s beautiful there!
Thank you for your service sir 🖖
Very welcome!
It worked--thank you so much!!
Glad it was helpful.
This worked for my 2 year Venta machine. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! 👍
Thank you! My venta started making the same noise and your video fixed it!
Thanks, that makes it way easier. Instead of inventing the wheel again.
Glad it was helpful! 👍 btw- your icon kinda freaks me out. 😃
Cheers!
BalanR Thanks man!
Worked for me also. Thanks
Excellent! So glad the video was helpful.
Thank you! It works as described.
Glad it was helpful! 👍
Thank you!
Very welcome! I hope it was helpful!
I turned gears around as you suggested, but still got "clicking" sounds. My LW44 model is around 15 years old, so it's probably time to replace the motor.
Sorry it didn’t work out. Our Venta hasn’t made a click since I turned it.
For me a little bit of silicone spray into all the openings of the gearbox did the job of removing that rattling noise
Excellent! Thanks for sharing that.
DANG IT... I just returned the damn thing after calling the 188 number 5 times with no response. Well, I had bought it today and ended up returning it same day. Little disappointed to return it as this seems like a easy fix but again, if after $550 I have to fix anything day 1 then I rather send it back. (the LW45 unit)
I have to agree with you on that. Should work for the price tag. Luckily ours hasn’t clicked since I made the fix a few years ago.
It worked. Thank you
Excellent! Glad it worked!
worked for me on a two year old unit! thank you!!
