Yeah, but the 100Y pays for it in penetration, as do several other tanks with high-damage premium rounds. The Type 5's premium round has no drawbacks, literally just extra damage.
The problem with reducing the premium pen on the Type 5 is it won't change anything most of the time. 75 mm of pen isn't going to cut it at tier 10 for the most part, and the damage formula for non-pen HE hits doesn't use the shell penetration value when calculating how much damage you do.
Type 5 needs gun speed and armor buff, 999 armor all round, 1 million pen on standard HE With 4000 alphs dmg, 1 miles splash radious(doesnt do any dmg to allies and yourself, 5000 m/s shell vilocity , 2 million pen on premium HE, with 5000 alpha dmg same splash radious, same villocity and the ammo is free, with infinite ammo, shoot 60 rounds per minute. Speed: 100 miles per hour 3000 horse power, awesome horse power per ton, 60 degrees per s. on tank treaverse also same on turret. also this thing has 30 gun depression all over the tank, 90 degrees elevation, and have arty view, infinite HP.
Why play WoT when you can just play Type 5 Heavy point and click adventure land? No need to aim, no need to position yourself, no need to be afraid of enemies. Just do whatever you want and have a massive game impact. Just be sure to pay for enough premium tokens!

It really needs its buff man because here at SEA server it seems like no one use normal rounds in tier 10 tanks, even tier 9 ones - dont even talk about Chinese server guys. 280mm armor is nothing compare to 330mm pen, you may fire 1 shot at him but he will surely fire 3 shot with 99% pen at you and the turret can't be angled effective enough. Type 5 Heavy: Shoots 3 rounds of HE per minute, has metric butt-tons of armor, and might actually hit what it's aiming at more than twice per match. Balanced?
Dude, T92 does less damage to me in E100 than Type5. Type5 does ~500 to me and I have spalliner. Sometimes, if T92 hits my side track spaced armor, it does 200 dmg only. While type hits me anywhere it wants, and does 500.
Don't forget that because of how HE damage is calculated, with armor being a flat reduction, the actual increase in damage from the premium shells is actually *more* than 25%. For example a non-penetrating hit on 100mm of armor gets halved at the start, and then 110 is subtracted from the damage total, so against 100mm of armor the premium shells do ~33% more damage, and the amount of damage added only goes up, to the point that against a plate like the 270mm front plate on the Type 5 you're gaining as much as 60% extra damage compared to a non-premium shell.

I enjoyed watching the IS-3 get into the weakest armor of the Type 5, and where the tank has the least gun depression... and then keep rolling around to the heavily-armored sides.
I wish WG would listen to their own community and add new maps or buff/nerf tanks that the community thinks are op or to weak*cough* T10 lights *cough*and NO new pay to win tanks mechanics or shells...
The problem with nerfing the penetration of the HE round is that that won't affect the non-penetration damage. The premium shell will still be straight up better against anything the normal shell won't pen, so it won't really fix anything.
E5 is utter garbage again. Your front has massive weakpoints on turret and lower hull. And when you try to angle you can be tracked and penned in same shot by tier 7 light tanks. Great succes :)

btw I've watched Russian dev streams and they explained they gave the prem rounds more alpha because they didn't want to give it more pen and felt that would result in more penetrating one shot kills. although I think they could have done something like the T49 derp which gets more splash and marginally more pen
This premium HE does 150 extra damage if it doesn't pen. It's because in splash damage calculations initial damage roll is always halved before armor and distance reductions are applied. So difference is also halved assuming other two variables stay the same. Still, extra 150 is a lot on top of 200-500 range of standard HE.
Honestly balancing this tank would need to be SLIGHT armor nerf( it is basically invulnerable from the front which is fine as long as there are some sort of weak spot/spots even if they are tiny) and you have to get rid of the derp gun. Aiming at any part of a maus or another type 5 and doing 500+ damage no matter how well they are angling their tank is just dumb and takes any skill that you would need for the tank out of the game.
I just think the derp at this tier is silly takes so much skill out of playing high tiers. Doing as much damage as this does to some of the most heavily armored tanks in the game no matter how well they are angling/using their armor which could be forgiven if it wasn't near impossible to pen.

A fair amount just spam HEAT/APCR at the front of it. A 300 Pen Heat round can roll for 377 pen. Most of the meds have 330 to 340 so that goes up to just over 400. It can low roll to 223 but if it's 330 pen it can low roll to only 247. Given the range of pen that's a penetration ratio of 80% in favour of pentration. Most tanks have a standard pen of around 260 at tier X which has a penetration rate of about 42%. This effectively gives a tank that fires premium at a Type an increase of 90% to their effective DPM as compared to the 27% increase the Type gets when firing back. This of course does not take into account angling but then the Type 5s rounds are heavily affected by spaced armour (mantlet, tracks and Soviet side armour). Also trading if all shots hit will favour the Type 5 in most cases. However the gun handling is terrible and more maneuverable tanks will be able to dodge shots while snapping their rounds in. Yes I drive it and I love it. If you complain about what its premium does to you then I can complain to what you fire back at me and how I think it favours you. This tank does one thing well and that's bludgeon it opponents into submission in a straight up fight. Please convince the WoT community not to fire premium at me and I may give you the same same consideration.
The premium rounds on the Type 5 derp are pretty much lose-lose for most players, the player firing it will have an even longer repair bill than when firing APCR only from a Pz. II J, and if the tank on the receiving end is lightly armored, they'll almost be guaranteed to rage.
It's sad u mentioned E100....now its the most shittiest heavy tank in the game..has a flatter cheeks=no buff,weakest side turret=no buff.weighs 150 tons= hull top 40mm.etc etc etc...i just feel Sry for E100..
karthik kumar play it on test server to see if you like it, personally I'd just slightly buff the gun performance (aiming speed and dispersion values) and give it a slight horse power increase so it can reach it can take advantage of it's high top speed more often. nothing too drastic because I don't want it to be another pre nerf t57 or post buff maus, I just want it to be playable and not underpowered. you have indeed the best turret in the game but poor gun depression and loong aim time make it difficult to use the turret in many situations, I believe it has worse gun handling than E100 with big gun.

The dumbest part about the whole thing is the 150mm cannon on the Type 5 Heavy is actually pretty well-balanced with standard ammunition. Every 300-500 damage shell would be closer to 100-300 damage with standard ammo. I own one of these, and I can tell you for a fact that shooting HE at heavy frontal armour doesn't really work very well. With the slow reload on the cannon and the sub-100 damage you end up doing, you still end up needing to aim your shots for thin armour plates. Anything on the upper or lower glacis, front of the turret or even the side of the tan is going to do fairly minor damage. Premium Rounds are one of the reasons I grow less and less interested in World of Tanks. From lolarmour HEAT shells to loldamage HE shells to giving a massive advantage to the richer player, it just sours the experience altogether, and the Type 5 Heavy 150mm cannon is a prime example of this. Decent balance with standard ammo, lolbalanace with Premium Ammo. If I were to swallow my pride and accept the existence of RMT Ammo, the Type 5's Gold Shells should have come with a larger AoE radius but the same damage. This would make trickshots such as lobbing shells underneath enemy tanks, around corners or into multiple tanks easier without overpowering the vehicle to this extent.

Another way to balance the premium rounds would be to greatly lower its shell travel speed, maybe to half the speed of the normal shell. Doing so would make the premium shells harder to use, especially at medium and longer ranges, as you would have to give alot longer lead.
PAY to WIN game and all premium rounds that are HEAT or APCR should only add 30 millimeter to the standard penetration of the gun imo and not a 130 on some tanks and with the new patch it become an even more gold spam game no need to drive tanks with armor cause if you use your armor they just hit the two button and go through your armor no need for aiming at a weak spots any more the game is broken as hell now i understand that WG need to make money hens the premium accounts and premium tanks but for god sake it`s going down hill and stop adding tanks ffs we need MAPS more MAPS forget the rest and give us MAPS i love the game but that you remove the tactical aspect of it and just allow people to gold spam to negate it is a pain in the ass......it´s just sad

No one even botters to aim, work around the map, use actual skills, no. Everyone is spamming heat all the time.
I actually dont mind that the type 5 heavy has more alpha on its premium rounds. If it was to have more pen and more alpha then sure, that would be a little broken. I feel that its balanced by it having identical pen. Use u could argue that its a better round, but so is the E100s heat. It doesnt do more damage but it has a lot more penetration. Just my point of view.
People keep forgetting the Bathtub S35 CA (which is basically sealclub machine) which when using premium rounds with it's 105 mm AC mle. 1930 S you end up getting more damage and massively more penetration... It's been in the game for far longer than other vehicles that deal more damage with premium rounds but suffer penetration loss but nobody's talked about that...

The extra alpha is compensating for the low pen. So your splash does more damage. It makes money for the daft players. And the 1400 alpha isn't guaranteed

btw I've watched Russian dev streams and they explained they gave the prem rounds more alpha because they didn't want to give it more pen and felt that would result in more penetrating one shot kills. although I think they could have done something like the T49 derp which gets more splash and marginally more pen

This premium HE does 150 extra damage if it doesn't pen. It's because in splash damage calculations initial damage roll is always halved before armor and distance reductions are applied. So difference is also halved assuming other two variables stay the same. Still, extra 150 is a lot on top of 200-500 range of standard HE.

Honestly balancing this tank would need to be SLIGHT armor nerf( it is basically invulnerable from the front which is fine as long as there are some sort of weak spot/spots even if they are tiny) and you have to get rid of the derp gun. Aiming at any part of a maus or another type 5 and doing 500+ damage no matter how well they are angling their tank is just dumb and takes any skill that you would need for the tank out of the game.

I just think the derp at this tier is silly takes so much skill out of playing high tiers. Doing as much damage as this does to some of the most heavily armored tanks in the game no matter how well they are angling/using their armor which could be forgiven if it wasn't near impossible to pen.

A fair amount just spam HEAT/APCR at the front of it. A 300 Pen Heat round can roll for 377 pen. Most of the meds have 330 to 340 so that goes up to just over 400. It can low roll to 223 but if it's 330 pen it can low roll to only 247. Given the range of pen that's a penetration ratio of 80% in favour of pentration. Most tanks have a standard pen of around 260 at tier X which has a penetration rate of about 42%. This effectively gives a tank that fires premium at a Type an increase of 90% to their effective DPM as compared to the 27% increase the Type gets when firing back.
This of course does not take into account angling but then the Type 5s rounds are heavily affected by spaced armour (mantlet, tracks and Soviet side armour). Also trading if all shots hit will favour the Type 5 in most cases. However the gun handling is terrible and more maneuverable tanks will be able to dodge shots while snapping their rounds in.
Yes I drive it and I love it. If you complain about what its premium does to you then I can complain to what you fire back at me and how I think it favours you. This tank does one thing well and that's bludgeon it opponents into submission in a straight up fight. Please convince the WoT community not to fire premium at me and I may give you the same same consideration.

The premium rounds on the Type 5 derp are pretty much lose-lose for most players, the player firing it will have an even longer repair bill than when firing APCR only from a Pz. II J, and if the tank on the receiving end is lightly armored, they'll almost be guaranteed to rage.

karthik kumar play it on test server to see if you like it, personally I'd just slightly buff the gun performance (aiming speed and dispersion values) and give it a slight horse power increase so it can reach it can take advantage of it's high top speed more often. nothing too drastic because I don't want it to be another pre nerf t57 or post buff maus, I just want it to be playable and not underpowered. you have indeed the best turret in the game but poor gun depression and loong aim time make it difficult to use the turret in many situations, I believe it has worse gun handling than E100 with big gun.

The dumbest part about the whole thing is the 150mm cannon on the Type 5 Heavy is actually pretty well-balanced with standard ammunition. Every 300-500 damage shell would be closer to 100-300 damage with standard ammo. I own one of these, and I can tell you for a fact that shooting HE at heavy frontal armour doesn't really work very well. With the slow reload on the cannon and the sub-100 damage you end up doing, you still end up needing to aim your shots for thin armour plates. Anything on the upper or lower glacis, front of the turret or even the side of the tan is going to do fairly minor damage.
Premium Rounds are one of the reasons I grow less and less interested in World of Tanks. From lolarmour HEAT shells to loldamage HE shells to giving a massive advantage to the richer player, it just sours the experience altogether, and the Type 5 Heavy 150mm cannon is a prime example of this. Decent balance with standard ammo, lolbalanace with Premium Ammo. If I were to swallow my pride and accept the existence of RMT Ammo, the Type 5's Gold Shells should have come with a larger AoE radius but the same damage. This would make trickshots such as lobbing shells underneath enemy tanks, around corners or into multiple tanks easier without overpowering the vehicle to this extent.

Another way to balance the premium rounds would be to greatly lower its shell travel speed, maybe to half the speed of the normal shell.
Doing so would make the premium shells harder to use, especially at medium and longer ranges, as you would have to give alot longer lead.

And sadly, a year after your comment, the things have only gotten worse. Heavy tanks are becoming obsolete, super heavy tanks are obsolete except for the Type5. Platooning in Type5 should be forbidden. I'm really looking forward to the new prem ammo nerf since every tier 10 game became "press 2 for skill". No one even botters to aim, work around the map, use actual skills, no. Everyone is spamming heat all the time.

I actually dont mind that the type 5 heavy has more alpha on its premium rounds. If it was to have more pen and more alpha then sure, that would be a little broken. I feel that its balanced by it having identical pen. Use u could argue that its a better round, but so is the E100s heat. It doesnt do more damage but it has a lot more penetration. Just my point of view.

People keep forgetting the Bathtub S35 CA (which is basically sealclub machine) which when using premium rounds with it's 105 mm AC mle. 1930 S you end up getting more damage and massively more penetration... It's been in the game for far longer than other vehicles that deal more damage with premium rounds but suffer penetration loss but nobody's talked about that...
