With the new Class 717 units the driver can now walk through the unit when it performs the double reversing move to get into Hornsey Depot via the flyover. When performing this move with 2 Class 313 units coupled together the driver had to climb down onto the track. With a single Class 313 unit the driver could walk through the three carriages.
It's all to do with the quality of the headlamps. Provided they meet a minimum standard they are more effective than a yellow front. Only works if it is coming straight at you. If you are round a corner you won't see the lights but you can't see a yellow front in the dark either.

The law no longer requires parts of the train to be yellow, so the operators / manufacturers can choose whatever colour they want
