Lagway will probably play some or maybe more than we know. It all depends on the defence.

You do sit players like DJ. Early reps for him could be huge for him. Especially how well he throws and so he can get used to the college football speed of play. Dj has just as much the arm talent than just his “legs” he’s not another black running QB. He can make every pass that Mertz can make even right now. And he can throw deep balls way better. It’s all about experience. If you red shirt him make sure to give him majority reps in small games. Which unfortunately we don’t have many of. Let’s just hope this defense can figure something out
Please do not put Lagway in for running plays only. I will start screaming when the defense stacks the box and drops Lagway at or behind the line. He has to throw the ball a bit. There has to be that threat for success.

They are saying he’s got to be able to be a dual threat on the field meaning the coach has got to let me do a few throwing plays as well so the trick factor will be there for any defense we face! It comes down to both sides of the line of scrimmage, offensive line has to block and give Mertz time to throw, Def line has to get pressure on the QB and stop the run.
did the offensive line ever give Mertz time to go deep?

Richardson was a scary passer as well as I recall. But he could throw , no doubt.
DJ is an alpha. You don’t recruit blue chip #1 rated players at their position to watch them practice in a non contact jersey. There is no way getting actual game experience is going to “stunt” his development. The only way to stunt his dev is to hold him back.
Mertz reminds me of Alex Smith when he was wit the 49ers always checking down not trying to lose the game with a bad throw knowing the defense was as bad as it has been last year also I think Mertz is still in his head about his days with the badgers throwing so many int's needs to build more confidence in his deep throws maybe his arm strength limits him too but if the timing is right u really dont have to throw it 50 or 60 yards down field good ball placement at about 30 or 40 yards I think he can pull it off
He can't throw down field as much when he's running for his life damn near every play lol

Don't know (like everyone else), but I have a good feeling about our team overall. Mertz has earned the respect of Gator Nation for being the tough SEC quarterback that he showed last year. The play he got injured on was classic - gave up his body for the first down. Lagway looks to be a very nice piece in the room, he has obvious talent that if we can keep him for at least 3 years he will put the Gators in a lot of highlight reels. Should pull some wins that nobody thought we would this year.
Could be a leak/ Tebow thing though I think Mertz might have an edge over leak. But Leak also won a title. Love him,

Wide receiver room will be alot better this year than last year...
I feel like Emory & AR situation was only bad because Emory gave us bad QB play consistently and then AR came in making dynamic plays. Emory Single handedly almost lost the FSU game 2021 with several picks.
Leak did well and Tebow got samples to get some experience. As long as Mertz does well, Lagway can get some touches for experience.

Hope Napier is talking to Spurrier on how to best use a two quarterback offense, Spurrier didn't mind flipping QB's play by play. Add in that this year college football will have helmet speakers and that should really help a freshman QB.
If the oline improves like we think they will Mertz will have time to go down field, hopefully we only see Dj in mop up duty cause that means we are playing well and not trying to find ways to win
The biggest problem I think Florida has is not trusting a freshman QB those days are over were a freshman can't be great.

He never let Richardson play action himself and throw it over the top. I doubt he will do it with lagway , it makes to much sense. It would be like putting 11 guys on the field for a punt. Why would he do that? lol
Mertz won yall loyalty with what 7 losses?? He needed 200 yards no Int in spring to be the starter. He showed no improvement to his mediocre game. He wouldn't be starting anything for me. Transfer mediocre or 5star freshman. Get in DJ now

Useless info... Click bait queen. It's always great news or warning, or great news. But, at the end of the season it's another losing season. Coaching blunders will kill this team again and it will continue to happen until Napier is gone
