Enjoying your videos, think I will give this Fuchsia a try,the coldest we had it here last winter was +2 so I reckon the plant should be fine.

I need some of those +2 winters over here. That would save me loads of work! Plus, I could grow a bucket full of Washingtonia Palms. Simon

Greeting's from Ireland, Great video, I have two fuchsia 'black beauty growing in pot's for the last seven years and a cape fuchsia growing in the ground which I planted 2021. The cape fuchsia look's very like a boliviana fuchsia. In December 2022 we had a severe cold snap with minus ten most nights for two week's. When I saw there was a cold snap coming I put down wood chip's over the plant and to my surprise it came up in 2023. The black beauty fuchsia's also bloomed and I was worried about them because they were left out because I had nowhere to put them.

Hi Nicholas, yes a lot of what we would consider tender fuchsias are surprisingly tough. You did exactly the right thing by putting down the dry mulch. I'm still waiting for my black beauty to emerge.

Hi , your video is very encouraging. Ad you mentioned according to RHS it is H1C meaning it doesn’t survive below 7 degrees Celsius. I have ordered one on eBay. I guess it is a bit late to put it in the ground now? I will overwinter it at home and plant it in the ground next spring.

Hi there, you could get away with planting it now if you get away with a mild winter. But as with all these, more exotic plants I recommend planting immediately after the last spring frost so that the root system has the maximum season to establish before overwintering. Kind regards, Simon

Hi I planted one in the ground, completely forgot about it, it died back in winter, but come back in the spring, it was in a shattered spot in my garden, no flowers as yet. I'm in Bedfordshire

Hi Carolyn, unfortunately its been both a poor winter and a poor summer for this species. Mine hasn't flowered either, and there are still no signs of bud coming through. I think that all that can be done is an application of mulch over the winter and a hope for better conditions next year. Simon
