I spent a day at Burnt Mill during my apprenticeship and the team were so kind to me! I kegged off some Solar Dawn for them that was being exported to Japan!! They even sent me back to Colchester Brewery with a mixed case of fresh beer, massive thanks to Sophie and the team!
Great video. I live 12 miles from Burnt Mill in (SUFFOLK!) and am proud they’re local. Spent last Saturday along with my local home brew group with Sophie, head brewer, who tasted our attempts at their Beyond the Fir. Good people - great beer.
Their Fog series was outstanding! Living in Norwich I am lucky enough to see their beers regularly in a magnitude of pubs. If you are looking to talk about/visit an underrated brewery in actual Norfolk 😜 I highly recommend you get on the London Liverpool Street to Norwich train & get off one stop from last (Diss) & visit Ampersand Brew Co! Superb venue with an excellent range of high quality brews! 🍻
Great brewery, was blown away recently with a can of Konbini- a lychee and hibiscus Gose. So tasty, salty goodness. Just been on the website and ordered a few more. Love and Beer
Little Green Is right up there as one of the best lower abv beers around especially if you crave a bit of bitterness. It's incredible. Amazing West Coast beers from Burnt Mill.
I was enjoying Circle of Onyx this week on tap in my local, an absolute delight on a sunny afternoon. Glad the excellent Cocoa Porter got a shout out too. Burnt Mill are so readily available in the local area (including M&S) that i'm surprised they're under the radar.
Burnt Mill is absolutely one of my fav UK breweries. I have liked them from when they started and I think they've only gotten better. One of my go to's for a West Coast IPA (my personal favorite style) and they make great stouts too.
Love this for a series. I am relatively new to craft beer and loving it. I have found a good few UK breweries I really like (Verdant, Beak, Track, Polly's) but don't want to only focus on them. A bit of guidance on other gems i just haven't found yet is much appreciated :)
Circle of Onyx is great, as is the cold IPA they brought out recently. As someone who finds gluten a struggle, they are an absolute blessing in that so many of their brews are gluten-free as well. So glad that you have covered them here.
Burnt Mill are one of my favourite breweries and luckily fairly local to me. So many fantastic beers...Pacific crest, Pintle, beyond the firs, helles and cool heights have been some particular favourites. I was very fortunate to have Sophie come to our home brew club for a talk last weekend who gave us some amazing insights into the brewery.
Ordered. 12 cans gets you a 10% discount and if you open an account you get another £6 off. Great deal ! I've had a few of theirs in the past and all have been decent.
Very much appreciate you highlighting underrated breweries / beers! I totally agree for Burn Mill, had a handful and all great. Unfortunately they are hard to get your hands on outside UK?!
All these beers look amazing! Makes me jealous, as a resident of the Philadelphia area, where we have amazing beer, I think these folks could hold their own just fine..
Quite glad Burnt Mill is getting the recognition it deserves. Living a couple of miles from the brewery I might be biased, but they are some of the best, interesting and most consistent beers around. They release new beers very regularly and the local pubs and bottle shops are pretty reliable for getting them in quick and fresh!
The Burnt Mill logo is like a seal of quality. They’re a bit like Verdant in that way really. But probably more diverse in styles - so quite an achievement!
On your underrated breweries video back in March I championed Burnt Mill (as well as Holy Goat). They are always bringing out new beers. Also decent people. I was up working near them one day (I'm down in Croydon), looked at their website gave em a call for an order and I popped me head in 10 minutes later to collect.
Their Helles is stunning. It’s become my high bar for UK brewed Helles. I love that fact they’ve retained some bitterness on the finish, just makes it a much more palatable beer than others of the same style.
Love Burnt Mill, excellent choice for this subject. Speaking of underrated breweries in surprisingly lovely places, may I humbly suggest Rivington Brew Co?
Used to come to the UK all the time, strangely it dried up when they were bought by Duvel. You'd have thought that would have increased the amount coming to Europe!
Burnt Mill are absolutely superb! I quite like the idea that they're not overly hyped and have remained under the radar. It means they can concentrate on making their beer awesome and not appeal to the masses. Another one that I'd say makes great beer and definitely not over hyped is Duration. I'd love to see you both go to West Acre and meet Miranda and Bates. I reckon you'd love their beer that's for sure.
Not underrated by anyone who has tried a few of their beers in my experience! Their westies which incorporate NZ hops are a particular favourite of mine Get the Jade which was all Nelson I think was one I remember very fondly
Mmm... Tasty lineup. Watching this is making me change my mind about what I'm gong to brew next. Haven't done a BIPA in years, maybe I should... Also, looking forward to the release of the much-heralded and anticipated book. Will ask Santa to buy it for me for Beermas.
Do you think selling beers in supermarkets could have hindered their reputation? I've only had one Burnt Mill beer previously (High Hopes Pale Ale) which was from a supermarket and I was a little underwhelmed. After seeing the video I will definitely give them another try probably something dark next time.
Its friday, so yeah, vegan burgers and beer with my favorite channel it is 🤗 very much loving these beers, will store then all on my untapped lists for sure! Now come to think of it, can you maybe share all the beer links to untapped in the video notes? That would be wonderful since some videos go to fast and i keep on scrolling back and playing over and over every now and then. Enjoying a new local of mine ‘Gooische bubbel’ 9% pitched with champagne yeast for a lovely dry and bitter finish. Not an instant favorite of mine but its very interesting for sure! Looking forward to the book. Love and beer, cheers 🍻
Not enough breweries (at least here in Eastern Canada) doing enough West Coast pale ale, and IPA. The classic pine, resin, citrus, non hazy. Ditto, even less doing black IPAs/Cascadian Don't get me wrong I like my NEIPAs, but I would choose a well made WC or BIPA over a NEIPA. Was a local brewery that messed up a NEIPA, decided that they could salvage it by throwing more hops at it, and call it a new age WCIPA. Basically was bittered like a WC, but looked like a NE
This takes me back to 2018 when the British craft beer industry was obsessed with NEIPA we had the likes of Cloudwater and Verdant leading the charge.the vast amount of beer in bottle shops and bars were NEIPA we wanted our beer to taste and look like tropical juice with as least bitterness as possible. And then Burnt mill came along offering big bitter pin bright massively out of vogue WCIPA and it was mind-blowing! Such a brave move for a new brewery to make at that point in time they need to be supported at all costs easily in the top 5 UK breweries.
There are a lot of unhyped underrated Belgian Beers and Belgian beers styles, like Flemish Red, Old Brown, Belgian Pils/Lagers (witch Belgians drink most of the time), Amber, just Blond, 2 style Blended Beer, etc..
Torrside are one of the most underrated breweries around but probably a bit too far north for you pair. That being said Burnt Mill are a superb brewery.
I have to say though, I would reconsider mentioning the nazi party in an ad. I get it, it's "wow really" moment but I'm sure there's better options than nazis ;-)
It's a whole chapter in the book, and a conversation I'm really keen to have! All sides of beer should be examined, and they certainly are in this book.
From their website: “Gluten Free beer categorisation in the UK is below 20ppm. If we state that our beer is gluten free we use an enzyme to break the gluten down and test in house to 5ppm to provide the customer with absolute reassurance our beer is safe to drink” So really more gluten reduced not truly gluten free. More awareness needs to be brought to your side of the pond that this can still be dangerous for celiac drinkers. Hope y’all can help this clarification to happen! Burnt mill looks amazing otherwise
To be fair, this is the legal labelling in the UK - below 20ppm is called gluten free, like in "low alcohol" is no more than 0.5%. To be truly gluten free would require the brewery to not brew with any gluten at all for any of their beers due to contamination and such. Not sure any brewery in the UK is offering that.
SUFFOLK DAMNIT. While you're here, here's Burnt Mill's shop: burntmillbrewery.com/collections/frontpage
Could not agree more. Their artwork is stunning too, best in the industry for me.
I spent a day at Burnt Mill during my apprenticeship and the team were so kind to me! I kegged off some Solar Dawn for them that was being exported to Japan!! They even sent me back to Colchester Brewery with a mixed case of fresh beer, massive thanks to Sophie and the team!

Less than 8 miles away from me these guys. And they are absolutely outstanding.
Oh and it's SUFFOLK!

Little green is a beautiful beer
Thanks for the reminder: I have overlooked them for quite a while. Have now ordered a box full.
Burnt mill are a superb brewery offering quality beers my go to brewery
These guys did one of my favourite barrel beers I've ever done. Great company.
I was enjoying Circle of Onyx this week on tap in my local, an absolute delight on a sunny afternoon. Glad the excellent Cocoa Porter got a shout out too. Burnt Mill are so readily available in the local area (including M&S) that i'm surprised they're under the radar.

These guys are going to be at These Hills in Lewes next week, looking forward to what they'll be pouring.
Love me some Black IPA. Along with Schwartzbier, a totally underappreciated and misunderstood style!
Totally agree - feel lucky to have them as my local brewery

I do enjoy they keep their prices reasonable. I think they even have a loyalty program if you order from them regularly.
Very much appreciate you highlighting underrated breweries / beers! I totally agree for Burn Mill, had a handful and all great. Unfortunately they are hard to get your hands on outside UK?!

P.S. If you get the chance to try Tapawera, their NZ hop grower collaboration, it is an absolute banger!
Only 5 on my Untappd history, but all scored very well. Great minds etc etc.
The Burnt Mill logo is like a seal of quality. They’re a bit like Verdant in that way really. But probably more diverse in styles - so quite an achievement!
Totally agree. Recently had a few direct from them. The helles, black IPA and the pour over were all AWESOME
Need to find me some Pour Over.

Pintle was the one that got me all that time ago
If you can find it, Ommegang from Cooperstown, NY in the U. S. is really good. They are a Belgian-style farmstead brewery.
Used to come to the UK all the time, strangely it dried up when they were bought by Duvel. You'd have thought that would have increased the amount coming to Europe!
They may not be hypey, but MAN do they have class.
Burnt Mill are absolutely superb! I quite like the idea that they're not overly hyped and have remained under the radar. It means they can concentrate on making their beer awesome and not appeal to the masses.

Oh we've been many times! I (Jonny) filmed their crowdfunding campaign. We'd love to do a feature on them at some point.
Try Left Handed Giant, another British brewery producing fantastic Pales and IPAs
Look out for the textured labels, goes to show the attention to detail they put into their products! Superb beers.
Is yeast the final solution?
Gravity Well and MakeMake should be in your list. Fantastic breweries
Drinking a can of beyond the firs right now. Brilliant brewery
Not underrated by anyone who has tried a few of their beers in my experience! Their westies which incorporate NZ hops are a particular favourite of mine Get the Jade which was all Nelson I think was one I remember very fondly
Little Green was my beer of 2023. Fresh from the brewery it was just so good, great, pithy bitterness.
Mmm... Tasty lineup. Watching this is making me change my mind about what I'm gong to brew next. Haven't done a BIPA in years, maybe I should... Also, looking forward to the release of the much-heralded and anticipated book. Will ask Santa to buy it for me for Beermas.

Ha - so a little close to Mountain style or even the origin of Vermont Style !
@@TheCraftBeerChannel More like a bad Tree House hazy meets a bad Pliny, but trying to pass it off as a Pliny
Donzoko are making some of the best lagers in the UK - gotta get your hands on the Big Foam & Northern Helles if you can!!
We know Reece well and once he's fully settled in his new brewery we'll be making a film for sure.
Pure project in San diego. Underated
Kernel next please!
Burnt mill are definitely one the best in the uk
Beer Merchant in Hackney Wick?
My problem with all beers you guys are recommending is that they often are hard to get hold of...
Interesting take!
They are in Suffolk not Norfolk.
Yep sorry. Somehow we always get that wrong.

Burnt Mill rival Elusive for the best West Coasts in the country in my opinion, never had a bad beer from them
Totally agree - I'd probably pick Burnt Mill above Elusive for westies but it's preference at this point, both are amazing.
Torrside are one of the most underrated breweries around but probably a bit too far north for you pair. That being said Burnt Mill are a superb brewery.
A bit far north!? They're not even as far as Manchester, and are on the list for this series.
@@TheCraftBeerChannelglad to hear it. Was only winding you up with the too far north bit 😉
Their WC IPAs are probably the best and most consistent in the country
100% and have been for years. For me that's their biggest strength and weirdly their biggest secret!
Could you not? Now the secret is out :o
The sleeper train. Thank me later 😊
