@@BowtieGOAT For my project management event I'm planning on doing a digital presentation, except I plan on making it "next level" aka I'm implementing more PowerPoint tools rather than a basic powerpoint with bullets, do you still recommend for this event I make a physical board? And can you please further explain how you can be "creative" during written events? Thanks!
I would say it is your call to use a digital presentation or not. In this video, I suggest why I feel it's not a good idea, but ultimately it's your call. As for creative, without knowing your project specifically, it's hard for me to say. When you present to teachers, friends, etc, I would ask them what else you could do to stand out to a judge. Good luck.
@@BowtieGOAT For creativity, I'm currently doing a Project Management event, and I plan on handing out stickers or something small like that. Hope that helps!
What areas of the presentation do you recommend using a physical posterboard over a laptop? Currently, my teammates and I are solely using electronic slides with a few flyers for handouts, but we want to add more variety to our presentation. Thank you for the informative video!
In short, I would use a physical pasteboard in every case over a laptop. Qualitatively, I think a pasteboard conveys more EFFORT to a judge than a digital presentation. Electronic slide and some physical materials work well in a presentation. Take the extra step and have the physical boards printed at a local print shop. This looks stellar! Good luck this year!
Also, a judge cannot control the amount of time with a digital presentation. Anything you want the judge to see, focus on, and remember, I would put on a physical board / handout. That increases the likelihood the judge sees and focuses on the work.
Hi Mr.Deca Goat Im a big fan, you helped my make it to ICDC last year and I'm hoping to do the same this year but pick up some additional awards along the way (at states). I was wondering were you think is the best website to practice for State Deca exams. for some background I am from NJ and have access to AnswerWrite, Competition University and Deca+. I feel like AnswerWrite is the best for districts because at lest from ware I'm from they just repeat a lot of the same questions every year and Answrite has test from 2014 logged on it, when it comes to state practice test though I don't think it has much unless Districts and states test are similar. If you could give me some knowledge on were you think is the best place to practice state test I Will be very happy.
Well, you have listed all my students available too. Between those services,I believe my students have 12+ exams to access and use. In my opinion, it's not how many you can find, it's how you use the exams. I'll link my video to explain what I mean.
Sure. You can do whatever you want. Just remember, you need to be able to carry it in, and your set up time is included in the 15 min you have to present.
I'm confused with the testing, does the test score affect your chance of being a finalist if I'm doing roleplays? I'm on the entrepreneurship individual series. Thanks for all your advice.
Hi so im competing in esb this year, its a nonprofit homeless apartment center, that guarantees the resident a job, a personilized apartment, and education. I want to use a pamphlet as a visual for the judge, it wiuld be what i would give to a potential resident a an open house. I also want more visuals but i am stumped and dont know what to include.
Think not just about what to give to the judge, but what you will present with (digital vs physical). You can do a lot of creative things with visuals to connect to the emotion of the startup you have planned.
Hi! I'm interested in competing in ICME, and it will be my first time in a written event. Should the paper also be visually pleasing and follow the color palette? Or should it be a more standard black and white type of report? Will the judge have the paper in front of them while I'm presenting? Thanks in advance, great video!
Please make your report visually appealing. Your judge will likely have your digital paper in front of them. I would recommend bringing a physical copy along with you when you present, however.
Hello! I'm competing in PMCA, what type of visuals like boards, etc. would you suggest? I was thinking more of digital slides but, we are unsure of which one to use.
I would suggest designing a nice layout in Canva and getting boards printed. A digital presentation can work well too. Do what fits your personality best.
Hi I have a question. I am competing in the start up business plan event, and I made a digital investor pitch deck since that is what is used in the real world. Should I incorporate a board presentation? My concern is that my presentation on my laptop will seem less impressive compared to a board presentation.
I had to think about this one overnight! A digital investor pitch deck is very common in industry, but so is presenting on a large screen in a personal or board room environment. DECA judges aren't the real world. Sometimes the judge won't even be someone from industry, so the fact that you make a digital pitch deck like one that would be expected in industry might be lost on the judge. I am not saying DON'T make a digital pitch deck, but I do think that it is tougher to present sitting next to a computer. DECA is not the real world, and you are aiming to impress a DECA judge, not find an investor. I think the better advice is to present to your target audience-- the DECA judge. In the end, do what you feel is best for you. Only you will know best.

Yes. Your test should make up 33% of your overall score. The roleplay(s) should make up the other 67%.
