    Not really important, I know, but 'May' is pronounced like 'my' or 'm-eye' in German. 😉

      Okay lemme see if I’m picking up on any of the words using context clues.
      Richtig = “correct”
      Und = “and”
      Ist = “this”
      Aber = “sorry”
      Es = “it’s”
      Namen = “name”
      How did I do??

    Tommi is a childhood friend of Henning May's. Tommi had moved away from his city early on and eventually Henning himself moved to Berlin. The song is expressing the homesickness he feels and the longing that, especially Cologne people seem to feel towards their city and its people. This is an introduction of this, then new song to a crowd (17.000) of Cologne people which strongly react to specific lines in the song (some of it is sung in Cologne dialect) x

    The song is partly sung in "Kölsch", the regional dialect where Annenmaykantereit come from, Cologne!

    I’ve known for a long time that I want to travel to Germany just to see amk perform live. This song (plus other things I’ve seen where they talk about their love for Cologne) made me decide that if I’m gonna make the trip to see them, it needs to be in Cologne. I need to see them in their hometown and feel that love
    I just bought my ticket to see them on September 9th in Cologne and I can’t even put into words how excited I am. I know it’s gonna be so special

    Tommi is a friend of the "Teller" in the song, it is probably a male person (Tommi can be a short form for Thomas).
    There are several local things that must be understood, so the song make any sense.
    - He says how much he misses the Rhine (the Rhein, the river that crosses Cologne): when you are in Cologne, it is almost inevitable that you don't see the Rhein meeting the Dom (the Dome). These are for a lot of local people (and also tourists) very special. Historically saying, the Rhine is also very important, because it is a part of how Cologne was built. Before it was a whole "one" city, it was separated by the Rhein. There are even some local jokes about people who are from the "wrong" side of Cologne: the Schäl Sick ("wrong side" in Kölsch, the local dialect). Cologne was only the left part of the Rhine and on the Right side there were tribes that used to attack Colonia);
    - The Spree river is in Berlin and it shows some "rivalry" betweens Köln and Berlin, because these are some of the biggest cities in Germany. A lot of people who wants to try "more creative" things go to Berlin. So when he talks about the Spree, it is an allusion to when we see the Rhein here in Cologne;
    - We, people from Cologne, are very proud of our town: It is a place where everyone tries their Lucky and where people are usually more "opened" than the other Germans in other regions. The city is also proud of its creation: it was a Roman colony that mixed up with local "tribes" and developed itself. It is possible to see through other bands this spirit of "proud because we're made of different people" such as Kasalla (in a song "Jröne Papajeie" (green parrots)) or Bläck Fööss (Drink doch ene met (Let's drinke a beer!) or Unsere Stammbaum (Our family tree)) or Cat Ballou (Liebe deine Stadt - love your town!). These songs refer how colorful Cologne is and that Cologne is what it is because of this mix of different cultures.
    - Last but most important: he mixes the song with some Kölsch (Da wo mer zosamme jroß jewoode sinn (da wo wir zusammen groß geworden sind (there, where we all grew up together))), which is the Local Dialet of Cologne and is not widely spoken anymore, but it is well preserved. You can still listen to a lof of music in Kölsch and also Cultural events such as theatre only in Kölsch.

      I would actuall contest that. Cologne's people are so free and open, being a 'Kölner' is just a feeling. Its exactly not about where you're from, just that you love cologne and their people. Thats all there is to be part of cologne.
