    I see many kicks to the groin along with the slapping strikes in many Sanchin tests/demos...... Some way more than others. Why is this different in some instances? As i see no groin strikes in this demo

      In Okinawan Goju Ryu, Sanchin kata is used to train breathing and focus (kime). Sanchin Shime is when your focus, strength, form and willpower are tested by your Sensei. This is not done too often but in this demonstration Higaonna Sensei repeatedly checks muscle tension and form while striking the subject in various ways to test his stance and mental focus.
      The shoulder strikes test the full body tension and you can see Karamuto Sensei hardly moves when he is hammered with many powerful blows.
      This is an exceptional display of power and focus.

      Sanchin.
      Practical. It's a method of body and muscle control that requires high discipline that's essentially tightening and contracting all the muscles in your body. Biomechanically, this changes the conformation of the muscles to disperse force through the body. Do so enough, and the force you take is so dispersed that it's ineffective, and your body forms a natural armour to blows.
      The strikes that Sensei Morio Higaonna delivers are not to test blunt resistance, but they're probing strikes to check that Sensei Masakazu Kuramoto is performing the techniques properly and evenly.

    Its little odd sensei never does a punch or a kick only tensing and twisting and thumping stone

    • @richardseaton1570
      @richardseaton1570 4 роки тому +4

      Why would he do a punch or kick? He's probably on his fifth session of going back over them and figuring out what a kick is, there's not much to demonstrate.
      Stuff like physical tolerance to trauma and deliberate hardening of the body is a whole lot more interesting.
      Edit for clarity. When you get really good at disciplines like this, what often happens is you basically 'loop back to the start' and go over everything again with your new understanding of martial arts, your body, breathing, how the techniques apply, what the other dude might be doing, and all that.
      Those two men have probably 'looped back' multiple times through the basics, then the advanced, then the high level stuff, then back to basics to apply what they've learnt.
      So their basic moves, stuff like punching or kicking, is going to be phenomenal. It's going to be tailored to their own body's unique profile, gives them an easy flow into anything they want, while protecting themselves in both blocking ability, and tanking ability. To anyone but them, it's practically flawless.
      But that doesn't do well for a demonstration, as you have to get a certain level of skill to appreciate that level of skill, or it just looks like someone trying to look especially fancy while punching or kicking. So more advanced things, or applications of techniques and principles, like body hardening, breathing principles, full body muscle use, and using them while performing 'punches' and being checked for honesty (those slaps aren't blows, they're just checking he's doing it right) is more interesting to look at, and more easily understandable to the average person then the finer points of a punch are.

      It’s actually similar from the “hard qi gong” used by the shaolin monk in china in order to increase the chi energy to get stronger and in the best health ☺️ focus breathing coordinated with a form or a kata will actually increase your blood flow, more red cells, more qi energy, stronger mind, more calm and focus, but strong as a rock 🔥 so when it’s taught by a good sensei, it’s incredibly good for you
