  • My Chocolate Cake is beyond moist, you could LITERALLY leave it out on the counter for several days and it would still be luscious. This is the BEST chocolate cake recipe and garanteed the please all the chocolate cake lovers out there!
The surprise favorite for me on this cake was the cacao nibs. For those of you who have not been exposed to these little delights, they're pure, unprocessed chocolate aka they're very crunchy and chocolatey (not sweet at all). They contrast with the buttercream nicely and prevent the cake from being cloying.
    Full Recipe: preppykitchen.com/ultimate-ch...
I've made this cake many times and filmed on two separate occasions. So you might notice that I bake a 6 inch cake but decorate an eight inch one. I often love to make a smaller cake make a batch of cupcakes with the extra batter. Just to be clear though the recipe makes 3 nice eight inch cake layers!

Did you use his same amounts to make the buttercream. Sounds like too little for the amount he uses in between his cakes. Even for a 6in, 3 layer cake. I can never use so much in between my layers with only 3 sticks of butter. My cakes end up with so little buttercream, like barely anything, in between layers in order to have enough to cover the entire cake 😔

The only difference I would make is to dust the pan with dark cocoa powder instead of flout but my best results come from lining the whole inside with parchment paper and buttering it. Unless you use a silpat pan but I don't like those because that's plastic going into a hot oven. Otherwise, he nailed it though I do prefer a more dark frosting. I can't use a piping bag so I have one of the decorating guns from "Michael's" and I have to refrigerate the cakes. Makes them easier to frost for me.

I just open a home bakery 3 months ago and I decided to have desserts only with your recipes. And they have been loved so much that I print some of your recipes and have them in a binder. I have in my bakery your chocolate cake, chocolate cupcakes, vanilla cake, American buttercream, italian buttercream, the mini cheesecake (most sell item), the funfetti cake, the hojaldras (puff pastry desserts), etc

People don't look up anymore for any chocolate cake recipes as I've tried different chocolatecake recipes here but they were dry and not super moist like John's recipe here.. Absolutely wonderful and super moist chocolate cake in the world! I’m a beginner in baking, I’ve tried making or baking your recipes and followed every details and instructions and they all turned out good. You really help me to improve my baking skills. This chocolate cake recipe of yours, omg! My partner who is a restaurateur and has a picky good pallet after he had a bite of it he said this was the best chocolate cake recipe and he devoured the whole cake in 3 days. Your frosting is so yummy! The cake is so moist and chocolatey! I will make another one today as my family wanted to have this for our dinner. Thank you for your wonderful recipes! You rock!

Try tapping it on the counter for 3-ish minutes before putting it in the oven. This will let the air bubbles burst so the cake top will spread instead of bunching in the middle or random places

At first I was worried as the batter was very runny and the cakes looked slightly too moist when baked. But how wrong was I, everyone loved it, the family, the customers, everyone was shocked at how chocolatey yet light the cake was. Paired it with a chocolate ganache filling, the ultimate chocolate fudge cake👌🏽👌🏽👌🏽 thank you thank you thank you, definitely a staple recipe!!!!!

Trying to duplicate a cake from my favorite (now defunct) bakery, I decided on this recipe because the texture looked right. Rather than the chocolate buttercream, I made vanilla frosting with high-ratio shortening. This was my first time to ditch butter from a frosting, but I had a hunch that it was the right choice for this copycat attempt. Well, I NAILED it!! The combination of this amazing cake, and the creamy frosting was sheer perfection. Thank you, John, for another delicious recipe!!!
