The thing is .....Cortez's theme is amazing. And such a strong theme has to fit with a strong player. And well I thought that even hooktail was harder than Cortez
Yeah, Keyhaul Key was a considerably large difficulty spike from the rest of the games pacing, but was by no means anti-climactic. Fighting Cortez was nerve-wracking at points, I lost on my first attempt, but on my second complete playthrough I found that some preparation made the fight a little more modest.
You can hear this when Crump reveals himself they rip of Pokemon with Team Rocket like disguises lol and he sends out his blue fireball ghost army thingies on the sails while Crump has a bunch of regular X Naunts on his sail! Also the orange toads attack as well :P
he seems so intimidating, but the again bosses are suppost to be intimidating (maybe not giant skeloton heads attached to piles of bones) but just scary enough to freak you out before you fight them. he was a pushover really.
I know it would have been too easy, but I always loved how Mario waits until after fighting Cortez to tell him he only wants the Crystal Star and not his entire treasure collection. Still it was a great fight with two bad asses and they end up respecting each other.
oh man there's so many things that can screw you over trying that, in game death, death, console overheats (although its never happened to me so i dont know if it can happen), power surge, power outage, your house/apartment/etc. explodes, your residence sets on fire, THE POSSIBILITIES ARE PRACTICALLY ENDLESS!
Why does every song has a few minutes of pure silence at the end??? Seriously? The few I find that don't have dialogue and curtain sounds in them and they have a few minutes of silence at the end...
By the way, just learned yesterday that you shouldn't jump on his floating sword in his third form. It is considered spikey (never would have actually thought that, thoguh)
Cortez can be easily underestimate, my cousin fought him and said "no sweat." I come back from grabbin' a rootbeer and he already game overed -_-' But a good technique to do on him is charge up for a few turns have have the spike shoes and stomp his ass to kingdom come. Also I loved his music and the battle, it was also cool how he bacame an ally :3
Thumbs this up if Nintendo should bring back Bosses that weren't completely killed in the previous Paper Mario's and become ally's with Mario to kill something even stronger than themselves, along with bringing some of the old crew aswell.

@HammerLord11 I know this is late, but: Cortez is dead, but the dialogue implies he may or may not ACTUALLY be immortal. After the fight, he shrinks down so he can whisper (to himself and the player) "I am done for." Then he returns to normal size to boast about his immortality. He might've actually been on the ropes, as he was clearly scared. It's possible that Cortez actually WAS immortal, but that makes his fear hard to explain. He could've pulled a fast one like Flavio though.
he is only easy if u remove his weapons in the 3rd form. if u don't u will have one hell of a fight. and the 2nd form he has a charge attack and i think it does about 12 dmg. he is the coolest boss.

@TheKoopinator Your right but when it comes to PM and other great games those memories to matter cuz they linger in your head, like for me they linger there because my child hood based around that game along with BK, BT, CBFD, and about every other N64 game for the N64 P.S.- I espacially miss DK64 because I never got to finish it. :(
I can see where you get that. Greapers may have influenced Cortez's design. Another thing. Paper Mario 1 was originally going to be a 3-dimensional RPG like SMRPG, and was ORIGINALLY INTENDED to be a sequel to SMRPG. Think about that xD
I love how after the battle, Cortez was just like, "Oh, just the star? Whatever, it's cool, brah. Use my ship!"

Looking at him now, if he was rendered realistically, he'd be something right out of Bloodborne.

I forget what it was called, but that Star power technique where you trace a circle around the enemies worked wonders in this fight.
i like how the little spiky pile at the bottom only hurts you but you you still have the choice to attack it.
I thought that grotto where you fought him at was the coolest place ever when I was little. It still is.

Otacon: His HP is at 20, his attack is 4, and his defense is at 1. Being undead, he cannot die, but I'm sure you can find a way to beat him.

In the scene before you fight Lord Crump, Cortez should have transformed and whooped Crump's sorry ass halfway to hell

He's messing with you, making you think you've won, before returning at full force. Old trick to dispirit an annoying opponent
if you have any thunder rages left, just use them. or use a power lift/charge/power smash combo thing.
