I don’t know which is worse, moving in with someone 12 hours after meeting on the Internet or letting someone move in 12 hours after meeting on the Internet. The idea that a disabled person has to live in poverty for a year and mooch off of others to get by just so the government can consider them disabled just enough for some bullshit system is messed up. People still need to pay bills and feed themselves or their family. Not everyone has a support network willing or able to support them for a year to two years. Disabled doesn’t mean you have to be 100% fucking paralyzed, and if you even know basic facts about chronic illnesses then you’d know that there are good and bad days. Just because sometimes you have good days and can do more those days does not mean bad days should be thrown out of consideration. Especially with a chronic problem, that can flare up any time.
I think it’s o fucking ugly of us as a society that the immediate thought when facing a person with a chronic illness that has some good days is that they don’t suffer enough. That because some days are GOOD for them, they shouldn’t be supported at all, even though the majority of their time is spent in pain. And they look at people struggling to get by in the meantime, who must work through their pain and illnesses just to pay their living expenses, and think that they aren’t disabled enough for help.
The whole point of disability is to make sure people don’t have to suffer just to get by. That they can focus on healing and living and having a better quality life. To think that people who push themselves, especially on their bad days, to be able to get food in their stomachs or to pay their share of rent, are just lazy and trying to game the system, really shows how fucked up our society really is. You see a person trying to get by the best they can, who’s actively making their condition worse trying to survive as the system twiddles its thumbs and denies to give them any support in the meantime, and you think that person is trying to game the system.
I am so tired of humanity’s lack of compassion. I’m so tired of people’s black and white thinking. People have the gall to look down their nose at a disabled person and say, “you don’t suffer enough,” and then act all upset when that person ends up in the street, homeless and ill. Disabled people get treated like dirt, like a burden just for existing. And people like you just perpetuate it.

And while people like my mom who make $100 over the income cap to qualify for care can’t get it despite her over abundance of need (because she went to school and had a good job for 40 years and gets a little more than most in her retirement SSI). She’s a brain damaged triplegic and I take care of her all by myself and I don’t get paid (because she doesn’t qualify for Medicaid). So all the diapers, caretakers, and other benefits go to someone who can walk, talk, use the restroom normally, brush their own teeth, etc just because they make $100 less a month than her. People who don’t even need diapers or caretakers like my mom does. The system is broken, and until they start treating every case on an individual basis (instead of by the cookie cutter parameters they currently go by), then people in true need will continue to get denied and people who don’t need will continue to take advantage.

Some people fight thru the pain until they can get their disability so they CAN stop working. The disability process is a mess. I was able to not work BECAUSE I was able to get STD and eventually LTD until I got approved for my SSDI. It was still a struggle with 2 kids and bills. There are some that do take advantage of the system, but the majority don’t and I would rather be able to work instead of getting disability because I would make more. 💁🏾‍♀️💁🏾‍♀️💁🏾‍♀️

I agree with you. I am a NDPNA and I work helping people who cant work due to a mental or physical disability or both. While applying for disability you can try to work if you are able to but most people cannot or if they do, its very minimal and end up quitting, getting fired or giving up due to their health. What I do not appreciate is that each time a case arrives at her desk and it has a disability issue she attack's the person. She has something against a person who receives disability and she does not separate the ones who take advance of the system and the ones who need it. She clearly knows zero on how the process works. For starters, SSDI and SSI are two very different things. It is your RIGHT to claim SSDI since your payroll taxes pay for the program in the event you become disabled. I dont like when JJ latches on to the people like this not knowing the story. Its quite offensive to my line of work.

JJ would look at you and think that because you can do all of those things, that your pain is not debilitating enough to get disability. People should not think that. People should not be thinking in black and white terms when dealing with chronic issues that are debilitating in their own way. Sure, you can do all of those things, you can suffer every fucking day, you can hurt and hurt and hurt your body, and you can make a living at the expense of your health. Your pride in this subject is misplaced. You shouldn’t feel prideful for your suffering. You shouldn’t have to work like you are, just to get by. You should realize that the system is already failing you, and you are succumbing to the propaganda that disability=useless. To take the heat and scrutiny off of themselves, they turn disabled people against each other. The fuckin truama olympics, where people say, “you’re not disabled enough; look at me, I’m having to spend hundreds of dollars on basic care that makes my life even somewhat barrable, such as a brace and icy hot and ice packs and pain meds, and I think you, who has disability for your own chronic illness, is the problem. You are gaming the system, and it pisses me off, because I should be able to get my disability without your lazy ass making others like me look bad for wanting a good quality life.” while you don’t stop to consider that this anger is misplaced, as it isn’t other disabled people making your life hell. It’s the fucking systems. It is failing you. Stop being prideful of your pain. You shouldn’t have to work yourself into an even worse condition until you just can’t work anymore. You should be able to rest and get your care and live your life without killing yourself in the process.

You should really apply for benefits. I'm tired of people thinking people with intense disabilities going without help they need as virtuous. It's just cruel and shameful we shame people who need help. You deserve help.
But I also deny how bad my disabilities are because I'm in my 20s and take care of someone worse off than me. He had to go a week without me because my health got so bad I ended up in a coma once.
The destruction of your body for a company that probably won't even help you get health insurance isn't virtuous. It's a brain washed mentality.

Teaching snowsports is by far the most physically demanding job I have ever done. One of them works in IT making 6 figures the rest of the year, the other works as a wilderness guide and hikes all over the mountains during the summer. Both get money from the government. Both have independently admitted to me that they have no idea how they qualified for disability. I also know two med students currently in residency, the stories they tell me of their time in the VA, I swear. I have no problems helping those who need it, but I can't stand all the fraud.

I think it’s ludicrous to believe I have to go completely broke while waiting to win a case. Depending on the injuries sustained, you may never have the same physical capability you had prior to the accident, so yes I want my disability. So, when these companies or whoever try to catch you doing your own yard work and grocery shopping to prove you don’t deserve disability like people just have personal assistants, cooks, and landscapers at their fingertips. Who else is gonna take care of me and my household? Lol He may have been able to work 40 and 50 hr weeks, but that can change real quick if your injuries prevent you from doing it.

Why these creepy people would show up on national TV, to be exposed as fraud artists and be humiliated in front of friends and family, is mind boggling. While I feel sorry for the son that looks like he has had a tragic life growing up in that horrific family... he must be missing a few marbles too, showing up on TV as a witness to such insanity, (instead of saying it's your mess Dad and avoid letting everyone know he's related to that guy.)

Whether it’s a physical or mental disability. Also the man needed to make a living or he would have nothing. So what did she expect him to do? Be homeless due to his disability? Starve? Not be able to afford food or water? And lawn mowing can allow you to sit not just stand.

He was able to do manual labor. Which means he might not really need disability payments from the government. I say might because I dont know his disability or the severity.
