CARL MACINTOSH AND YOU CUT OUT THE TRACKS??!!! This is what happens when people who dont really love our music are put in positions of control. Whoever responsible should be reprimanded...but theyll prolly get a promotion!
I met the brother at Heathrow going to NYC....and I might have been the only one who knew who he was. Talk about some of the best R&B/Dance music ever produced.....they had it.
It's still a joke how black acts are treated by mainstream, they talk about diversity nowadays but still want to run a mile when it comes to real black music, shocking state of affairs. Most of us are only finding out more about these artists decades later because the industry wasn't giving them the exposure and credit they deserved.
WOW …how fortunate were you OMG!! I totally infatuated with this guy, he is rather amazingly ambitious songwriter and, musicians-artists!! I love this bother!!
I definitely remember listening and buying " Hangin On A String " on 45 RPM back in the 80s and I've been a huge fan ever since! This is a great interview with Carl McIntosh and I learned things that I didn't know before! Thanks for sharing this post!
I can remember first hearing the album zagora and man did that album get some playing.. It was a way of taking you out on the town you lived in in the UK to exotic lands and you felt like you were sat on the beach watching the sunset.. Just amazing..
It didn't sound exactly the same it had a looser vibe and how ridiculous of JJ&TL to treat LE like this. Probably for the best anyway as LE had a unique sound, much more street and less commercial although I admired that US sound. I don't think it would have worked.
Correction....Prince fired Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis from the time after they missed a performance with the Time because they were off producing the S.O.S. band
In the 80s this British based black group called Loose Ends had so many many hits all on MCA Records/Virgin Records America Carl is the masterpiece of L.E. his voice takes you to paradise along with Jane Eugene and Steve Nichol and of course their producer Nick Martinelli with "a little spice" in their music.
Carl got swag!!! everything about him is swag the way he is cool and composed, you just want to be with him and not go anywhere!!! Dawn Carl, who is your lady?? She is one hell of a lucky woman to have your daily attention, I am so jealous of envy!!!! looool
He actually aged well...black don't crack...and it seems he was catching some sun here...most people don't know but his brother is another great British act, musician, producer, Omar Lye-Fook (he had a huge hit, "There's Nothing Like This", in 1991 and many others)...
Indigo in the O2(Greenwich) used to host some classic Soul groups & I was fortunate to see my favourite bands Chic/Atlantic Star & SOS Band(minus Mary Davis) & Loose Ends CM (he turned up late lol) absolutely brilliant. If Loose Ends we’re about in England now they’d be off the chart. SOS & L.Ends we’re my most played vinyls mid late 80s
I’ve always considered Carl a professor of his craft. He has more talent under his pinkie fingernail than most who only aspire… I got a lot out of this interview (from Carl… the interviewer seemed a little sleepy, a little clueless..) Love this guy. Gotta hail up the wealth of ‘!st gen’ black UK talent. 💜💯👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Absolutely. It really showed how ahead of the game Loose Ends was in terms of the accessibility of their sound, production-wise. Like Carl said, there have been a bevy of artists, particularly in hip-hop, who've sampled their work. He really knocked it out of the park with "Look How Long," which was an immaculate merging of urban soul and hip-hop boom bap mentality. It'd be great to know how Pete got them back together for that track.
I was lucky enough to get to see them live back in the day when they were all together as a full band in the nia centre in moss side Manchester in 91.. They were amazing.. However a few years ago I went to see the sos band at the academy in Manchester and Carl from looseneds who is speaking here was the support band called the loose ends experience and I am sorry to say that they were not very good at all and to make things worse they were having problems with the sound but he had some backing singers with him but they were a real let down.. However the sos band came on after and they blew the roof off the house.. But they will always be one of my favourite bands and the albums they left us are all amazing..
I saw his band at jazz cafe Camden and they weren't as bad as you described, very good actually and well worth seeing but shame it wasn't the original lineup. Also saw SOS band and they are incredible live.
Jane Eugene was/is a very difficult individual to work with both professionally and personally. The stories about her domineering attitude within Loose Ends have made the rounds for decades.
Sorry but sometimes you need the right interviewer...no shade on this guy but he clearly has little knowledge of UK's Black R&B/Dance music of the 80's.
Actually Mao is pretty well-versed. I dig that he let Carl do most of the talking and just added on. Mao knows about UK Black Soul but did not need to drop names which can be annoying.
@@reimourrpower9357He didn't talk about who were some of the Artist from the UK, the history of UK Blak music, or Nick Martinelli...the cat who produced their hits.

Agree. They each were unique; Carl was the cool original Brit soul 'funky dred', Steve was the sharp keyboard / horn dude, Jane was the sexy, radiant Caribbean Queen.

Clearing that would have been a headache and expensive. I feel you but in business and program production these factors must be considered. I work in documentary film and let me say: clearing music was the MOST expensive and challenging part of the process.

Engaging and pure magic. Thank you Carl for your continued incredible work and passion for the craft of sound.
He was the heart of the band, put so much appeal to the band. Ask anyone that was on Soul TrAin or saw live performances.

A humble genius, an MBE for his services to music is long overdue. The father of UK street soul!
Loved Carl's guitar sound!
Awesome Interview!
My uncle who passed said you're one of the best producers in the world. No disagreements on my part
Magnificent interview. One of my favorite musicians of all time. Carl McIntosh💎💎💎💎
The drum beat used for "Hanging on a String" was from the song by The SOS Band "No one is Gonna Love You" not "Just Be Good To Me"
