There are 8 classical dances in India & this is one of them & people start learning them as early as 3 years of age. It takes at least 7 to 14 years to perfectly learn these dance forms. Due to the music you may not know but the banging of the feet on the floor is so hard that it seems as if they are clapping with their feet.

For another cultural tidbit: The house this video is filmed in seems to be a naalukettu, a traditional style of architecture where four blocks of the house open into a central courtyard. This provides for excellent ventillation and helps maintain the temperature in tropical Kerala. Naalukettu (litterally 4 blocks) and its larger variants, ettukettu (8 blocks) and pathinaarukettu (16 blocks) are some of the famous examples of the tacchu shastram (the science of building things). all dance movements, gestures ( mudras) and postures depict a specific thing, emotion and story. not just hands but eyes! there are books that teach you about each gesture in Indian classical dance and what it denotes. 🙏 so proud of our heritage - which subconsciously permeates into our being and help us sense these complex arts with such an ease!
There are INDn classical dance forms where you put a mound of coloured dust and dance over it and at the end of the dance you get a picture of a dancing peacock or some other form. It's just crazy, the synchronization, the precision, it's mind boggling.
There's Bharathnatyam Mohiniyaatam Kuchipudi Kathakkali & etc are the traditional dances of the south... All the dance forms can derive stories.. eyes , hand , feet body moment all play a major role in these forms .. Being someone living in modern era, sometimes I too feel that there is no need of religion or of concepts of divinity now..and in fact the same is happening around the world including Indian societies. But eventually I realize how beautifully these magnificent Indian aesthetics like music, dance, sculpture, philosophy, martial arts, spirituality, grammar etc have got evolved around and are intertwined with religion,I cry. Because It's disheartening to see these beauties gradually disappearing as relevance of religious beliefs continues to diminish in younger Indian masses.
The classical artist world is completely different... They are directly connected to the religion and beliefs..odissi is from Jagannath, shatriya from Shri Krishna same for Manipuri.. Bharatnatyam comes from Shiv Shakti...one cannot learn a classical dance form without being sound of Hinduism... Second every 5 houses in middle class family the children are taught classical dance or singing as extra curricular activities...how are so sure things are disappearing...Shilpa Kala has always been there and will always be. Also the number who will know this and take it forward will be a less number even in the past it was only selected talented people who were given to keep the crown of this art and hence it will always be a limited number. It won't vanish don't worry. Also religion is like a lifestyle. If you are enjoying a festival like Durga Puja or Ganpati festival you bow and ask for blessings from the almighty that way even the people with less religious nature are also living a good life. Knowledge is vast, every one cannot learn everything. The knowledge a priest has about a religion won't be same for a scientist. But it's always like a safe pillow to consider that there is someone who will support us even at bad times and that's the one we believe the supreme power, till the time human will survive they will need the supreme power either with fear or with love. That's human nature, you might be of any religion this thing states truth of human dependency. I think this is Bharatnatyam. All classical singing and dancing are God-oriented. There are 8 different styles of classical dance in India - bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Oddisi, Kathakali, Kathak (Lakhnawi and Jaipuri lineages) Manipuri, Mohini and Satiya

The dance form is called 'Bharatnatyam'. It's one of the most ancient dance forms in India. The word Bharatnatyam is mix of 4 words. Those are - 1. Bha which is Bhava is expression. 2. Ra which is Raga is music. 3. Ta which is Taal is rythym and 4. Natyam which means dance. In Indian classical dancing you just don't dance with your feet and hands but even with your face as well and that's also incorporated in Bollywood dancing as well.

In this case you have been referring the percussion to be Tabla. It is not Tabla but side-by-side instrument dhol/dholak or mridangam and that is why the sound is different. This is a kind of cool fusion music. In Classical Carnatic music, the main instruments are Mridangam, Harmonium, Flute, Ghatam, Veenai, Violin, Tamboori. I think there may be Mridangam used here and not tabla. I am not sure. Lol, no guitars, drums!

The dance form is called 'Bharatnatyam'. It's one of the most ancient dance forms in India. The word Bharatnatyam is mix of 4 words. Those are -
1. Bha which is Bhava is expression.
2. Ra which is Raga is music.
3. Ta which is Taal is rythym and
4. Natyam which means dance.
In Indian classical dancing you just don't dance with your feet and hands but even with your face as well and that's also incorporated in Bollywood dancing as well.

In this case you have been referring the percussion to be Tabla. It is not Tabla but side-by-side instrument dhol/dholak or mridangam and that is why the sound is different. Every palm gesture might have a meaning and is called a mudra. The song itself is describing a girl dancing in a particular way.
