Arewa Binu tan patapata
You are very correct Arewa.
I'm happy that someone can come out to tell the Oyos the truth.
The problems in Yoruba land originated from the false stories narrated by the Oyo people.
Oyo distorted the history of Yoruba Obas.
Oranmiyan the founder of Oyo is the last born of Oduduwa.
Pls how can a child be superior to his father and his other senior siblings?
The claim that Ooni was a slave or Priest was not absolutely correct.
After the demise of Oduduwa, there were other Ife Princes whose their families had been in Ile Ife before the Arrival of Oduduwa.
These people had been managing their land before Oduduwa came. They just unanimously agreed to make Oduduwa their King because of the ifa directive and his enormous power.
Some of them married to Oduduwa daughters.
Oyo is a child to ile Ife not even a pal.
Reverend Samuel Johnson was an Oyo man. That was why most of his books are in favour of Oyo empire.
Oba ile - a town very close to Akure is superior to Oyo but a pal to Ile Ife. Because it had been in existence before Oduduwa. Same to couple of towns in Yoruba land.
Excellent! More of this please! Enough of this revisionism from Oyo people . Their case, just as u emphasized, is like a drowning person clinging to whatever possible to stay afloat. Their revisionism has further de-mystified their claim as a power bloc in Yorubaland. What was the basis of their supremacy? I guess it was their military might rather than being a product of consensus. And that was why power shifted as long as warrior in any particular place can assert his authority. The moribund empire did not cover the whole of Yorubaland. Ijebu, Ekiti, Ondos were never under the suzerainty of Alaafin while more than 90 % of Yorubas concur that Ife is their ancestral home. Not even Awujale that claimed Ijebu were from Waddai could deny the historical link of Obanta to Ile Ife. I think it is high time we de-emphasized the use of Samuel Johnson book as a a veritable source of knowledge of Yoruba history. Oyo should stop their new tendencies to re-situate the narratives of Yoruba history.
