You answered my main obstacle to replacing my step controller. How to get the steps to extend when they fail to function when the door opens. My steps were working intermittently. I had replaced the motor and gearbox 2 years ago, so they should be good. All the Lippert and Etrailer videos had the steps already out or loose. Your partial install to open the steps and verify the new controller works solved my issue. Thank you Sir.
I must have hit something on the road that tore the wires for the steps out. I have 4 wires not connected to anything and can not seem to find a diagram showing how these wires connect.
If your steps are stuck make sure your RV is level. Our motor home didn’t look too out of level to me when our steps got stuck closed. My wife insisted we just needed to level the RV as the steps were likely bound up. Once again, she was right.
I am confused about something, how can you test the connections at the 4 pin connector when the connector is unplugged? Where is the power coming from?
He tests at the plug side, the socket side is attached to the module. The plug side is getting ignition+, 12v from red wire, ground or float from brown wire which is the door sensor and float or 12v from white wire which is the switch.

My electric step will not remain retracted in off position. What could be the problem?
Make sure you have a good ground connection. Also check your on/off switch to be sure it is functioning properly.
