    “It could go through my hand and ruin my career” David Blaine sticks ice pick through his hand on a regular basis.

    • @beanexmachina5833
      @beanexmachina5833 5 років тому +9

      Carlos Spiceywhiener David Blaine’s actually is not a trick. He spent years developing a tunnel of scar tissue through his hand using acupuncture needles, and he really does put an ice pick straight through his hand. It’s not a magic trick, it’s just something he does that’s so crazy that you assume it can’t be real

    • @beanexmachina5833
      @beanexmachina5833 5 років тому +11

      Carlos Spiceywhiener In most cases, totally with you. In this case, no. It’s been well documented by medical professionals, and David Blaine is neither the only nor the most extreme example. The tunnel of scar tissue is called a fistula, and Dutch performer Mirin Dajo was famously able to pierce himself with swords using a large fistula he’d developed through his torso. David Blaine has developed two fistulae: one through his palm, and one through his arm. Skepticism is important, but Blaine is one case where the truth is genuinely more spectacular than the “trick” itself. I’d encourage you to do some research on the phenomenon rather than call me gullible

    • @beanexmachina5833
      @beanexmachina5833 5 років тому +13

      Carlos Spiceywhiener Gullibility is believing something without evidence. Ignorance is not believing something while refusing to seek out evidence. This isn’t David Blaine’s word against yours, it’s an extraordinarily well documented situation. It’s not only plausible, it’s fairly common. Do an ounce of research.

    • @beanexmachina5833
      @beanexmachina5833 5 років тому +10

      Carlos Spiceywhiener I’m not referring to any part of his show, I’m referring to hundreds of documented cases of human piercings through fistulae, which are often exploited by magicians. That IS the trick. Blaine isn’t even close to the only person, magician or not, who can do this. It has been common throughout history, particularly in eastern tradition. Just because a magician does something doesn’t mean it’s a trick. David Blaine, in particular, has done a great deal of impressive things unrelated to his magic career. You’re arguing out of your ass. Watching Blaine’s special and taking his word for it doesn’t constitute research. That’s what actual research is for.

    • @beanexmachina5833

      Carlos Spiceywhiener You must go crazy when people get their ears pierced. No way they stick a real needle through the earlobe, it’s gotta be an illusion!

    Every bag had a nail and block of wood in it. The nail fits into a hinge that allows it to sit sideways along the woodblock. So he can press them all down, but the last one she reaches in and puts the nail upright on the hinge as he pulls it out of the bag.

    Kinda sad how people reacting to magicians nowadays is purely just saying how it's fake and how they did it. That's like commenting on how you knew Leo was not actually getting destroyed by a bear in The Revenant. Just enjoy the act people. Our main goal as magicians is not to convince the world magic is real but to entertain them.

      No, each bag contains nails. When he shows the bag at the beginning he just shows the bottom of the wooden box with a nail. Nails are not hard. When you thump it, it shrinks. The apple has a hole in the middle, that's why it goes through the nail so easily.

  • @varunmamtani2324

    All the bags have a pin and a block. The pin is attachable and detachable to that block. The block with the pin he shows us in the starting, has its pin detached and kept horizontally when he places it in just like all other bags. The bag that remains, has its pin attached by him in the end.

    Loved the illusion. Don't know for sure how he did it, but the best guess would be nails in all of the bags laying horizontally. There's a reason for every move he makes. Turning around obviously is his opportunity to lay the upright nail down. At the end it would easy to reposition it vertically. That's also the reason he never reveals what is in every bag at the beginning. I do consider this magic even though we all know it's an illusion. Magic is a form of entertainment which he does brilliantly.

      @potworzgo 4 роки тому

      You serious? Every bag has its wooden "base". He just took a needle at the beginning and stook it in slight of a (really good slight) hand. The real performance this times is only David Blaine where he actually punctures his hand and makes real doctors to check it with rentgen

  • @robertoprestigiacomo253
    @robertoprestigiacomo253 4 роки тому +7

    There are different versions of this trick depending on whether you use bags or cups and if you let the audience choose or not.
    For this performance he used the classic method for bags: each base has a recess to hold the nail down horizontally and all bases have a nail but the magician only shows one with the nail up (in this case he puts the nail but he knew which base was empty, in fact first shows one base but then chooses to put the nail on a different one); when he or the assistant put the nail inside the bag they put the nail down in the recess while their hand is inside; so there won't be no bag with the nail up and it doesn't matter who chooses and in which order; when at the end only one bags remains, the magician replace the nail up as he take the base out of the bag so the audience believes the nail has always been up.
    Some people in the comments pointed out that there is a bag with a sign on the bottom that he keeps track of but that is the simplest version of the trick and only works when the magician doesn't let others choose the bags or when he picks who in the audience has to choose (which would be an assistant who knows where the nail is).

    • @alexgeorge9533
      @alexgeorge9533 4 роки тому

      But, he has jimmy verify it is upright and closes the bag immediately. I still don’t see a way for him to get the nail out of the upright position after that.

    • @robertoprestigiacomo253
      @robertoprestigiacomo253 4 роки тому

      @@alexgeorge9533 I think he does it when he shuffles the bags and turn his back to the audience. The ability of a magician is to do these things in a very subtle way but that's the trick.
      Another version is to use bases with magnets and the magician will never actually leave the nail inside and when he opens the remaining bag he would put the nail, but that requires much more hand work to conceal the nail and I don't think he used it because his hands are always quite visible

    • @Jay-zr2cm
      @Jay-zr2cm 2 роки тому

    1:09 took the nail out of the back, and put it up his left sleeve
    in one of the million cuts where his arms aren't visible, he transitions the nail from his left sleeve to his right sleeve (or he simply had a second nail in his other sleeve)
    6:08 he puts the nail back onto the wooden block, look at his weird finger-position as he puts his hand into the bag, it's suggesting that he's pulling something out of his sleeve

      Every magician do their own trick to make it look more believable. He used slight of hand when he was mixing the bag. But that's the general concept of the trick. It's a pretty common trick

    • @joeynuggetz
      @joeynuggetz 8 років тому

      I agree that every bag having a nail would be ideal. However, if that was the case and he removed the nail from the one he was demonstrating before closing the bag then he could have had jimmy mix all the bags, turn them around and even insist on not touching them to ensure he doesn't mark one. Then for the final bag, reach in, place the nail in the hole and pull it out and you're a bigger hero.

  • @bobbytables464
    @bobbytables464 9 років тому +3

    I don't think this is done using the normal method of spikes at the bottom of all bags and sleight of hand taking the nail out. First, the final bag IS the exact bag he put the spike in, you can tell by a slight crease on the bottom edge that other bags don't have. Second, Jimmy checks the bag before it's closed and he doesn't put his hand in it before closing it. Watching at .25 speed, that bag is out of sight for half a second, but Jimmy would see if he tilted the bag. His hand also doesn't go deep enough into the bag to replace the nail.
    I really think this is mentalism rather than sleight of hand. He knows which bag has the nail and he words his questions carefully so it always gives him an out. He doesn't ask the first two audience members which bag the nail is in, he asks them to pick a bag by number. The final two bags, he has Jimmy pick one, and if Jimmy picks the unsafe one, he smashes his own hand on the other one.

    • @bobbytables464
      @bobbytables464 8 років тому

      ***** There's a reason he puts Jimmy in "danger" by having him hold the hand over the final bag - if Jimmy picks the actually dangerous one, Dan can say something like "OK, that's your bag, this one's mine." Maybe add some patter about who goes first, then he volunteers to go first and hits the bag without a nail. Now everyone's focused on Jimmy almost getting his hand impaled.

    The nail was placed in the bag with the crease at the bottom. That crease was there for him to remember where he out the nail. He kept moving it to the middle. More than likely people would subconsciously choose the bag on the end and leave the centered bag alone. Towards the end he placed the danger bag away from Jimmy so Jimmy would choose the bag closer to him. Or Jimmy is in on the trick also (knowing where the nail is). I'm just theorizing here.

    Magician shows us there is a block in every bag. Magician then shows himself putting a nail in a block. Magician puts nail with block back in bag. In that instant however, with his hand hiding inside the bad, he takes out the nail and puts it lying down on the block. He shuffles the bags but what the audience does not know is that there is a nail lying on a block in EVERY bag. So he fearlessly slams every bag until there is one remaining. Then he puts his hand in the bag, reattaches the nail to the block, and then lifts it up out of the bag as if it were always standing upright all along.

    Answer to the trick: The nails can be attached and detached from the blocks. So every single bag has a block and a detached nail. In the bag in which he actually puts the nail in the block and verifies with Jimmy to see if it is upright, he detaches the nail once he is closing the bag and shuffling it (He held on to the nail with the bag over it, like his hand was over the part of the bag with the nail). He then slams every bag. For the last bag he just attaches it as he is reaching in to get it. Otherwise he could have simply just empty the bag out by tipping over the bag, which he didn't. He had to reach his hand in. The way the nail attaches to the wood is probably by a magnet, as well as a small hole, so that it is done both quickly and securely.

  • @rammstein1903

    The nail looks like tinning solder, so it has like no strength to keep from buckling. All the bags have a "nail" in it. Don't know much about magic tricks, but this is my take on it. He pushes the "nail" through the apple without the impact. The impact creates a higher force and with a slight angle would make it buckle even easier.

    and i think its rigged maybe with a magent inside it ,soi that only the nail slide from his underarm it stand up on the board.

    This Trick is all about tricking the mind to chose what you want them to chose (When i say this the bags will stay 1-5 no matter what so it's easier to explain) When he switched the bags with the blocks in them at the beginning behind his back, he made sure that the spiked block bag was in the middle (Yes the REAL spike was in the bag the whole time) when he switched the two bags after he placed them down (Bags 1 and 2) it caused the audience to think the spike was in one of those two bags (The first guy chose bag 2) after that it was a matter of luck (Second guy chose bag 4 which was safe, jimmy chose bag 1 then bag 5) (If any of these people chose bag 3 he would've asked another audience member if they would like to keep it or switch the bag and since this is a mind game the audience member would unknowingly want to switch it)

    Can everyone stop trying to be a professional at everything? If you know the trick and someone else doesn't, that's great. Stop ruining shit for everyone else. I used to do amateur magic for fun and for family and friends and some of their friends. Cool bar tricks and card tricks. You can't even imagine how rude some people are in person when they try and ruin an act that fools 95% of an audience after you practice for hours getting it right. They spend hours trying to make you smile and laugh. Then there's the guy who attempts to ruin a trick, who is never anyone's friend in the end, and you wonder why you brought him along in the first place. Most of the time people think they know how it's done and they're still wrong. That person is always an egotistical asshole who thinks he's smarter than the magician. A magician will never sit there and go "no, that's not how I did it, this is how I did it," what the fuck is he supposed to say to you? There's always an illusion going on. Magic isn't real. It's supposed to be good fun for the mind. Whenever you ruin that fun for someone else you're just shitting on everyone else's good time. Stop it. It's fucking annoying. Even professional magicians get tricked by illusions. You have the benefit of having a youtube video to over-analyze, it's not being done in front of your face.

      Hockey Life Knowing how the trick is done does not "ruin" it for everyone. Maybe that's how you feel, but for a lot of people, it actually makes us appreciate the trick and the magician even more. Watching illusions is ok, finding out the amount of skill that it takes to perform them makes them much much more enjoyable for some of us. That doesn't make us egotistical assholes. Different people get entertained by different things but no one is forcing someone who doesn't want to learn how the trick is done to read comments going into detail about it. If that's how you feel, just don't read those comments, but please don't ruin that for everyone.

I'm thinking there was something else on the other side of the bag as well that he could see. I thought until the end that the crease was too obvious. So obvious that there would be a twist and he would push his hand down on all of the bags and the nail would not be in any of the bags.

      Carlos Spiceywhiener no he actually sticks it through his hand. He sticks it through a hole kinda like a piercing but is very precise. If he sticks the needle in just a little out of place he can seriously injure himself.

      @Carlos Spiceywhiener illusion, mate you're delusional lol, he actually sticks the nail through, he has scar tissue in his hand so he can stick stuff through without blood or pain. Go check it out it's actually very difficult to do

      @Carlos Spiceywhiener I don't think, I know, it's biology, go look it up it's very risky but it's real. The only trick is he can't just put it anywhere in his hand there's specific spots that don't have nerve endings

    I think this trick is about the power of suggestion. What he says to the audience, they do.

      Connie Powell actually it's just simple slight of hand. He removed the nail at the start then placed it back in at the end

    Look closely and you will see the original bag with the nail has a crease on the right lower section, it also has an extra fold on the top left where it folds under, this same bag is the last bag standing in the skit, which makes it much more impressive to me.

    He knew which one it was because he kept moving the bags over
