The other problem was that as the story progressed, she added characters and according to her, each of them had their own lore, this is supported by the character sheets that each one had and although she said that they would be relevant, many of the main plots were forgotten for some reason, she decided to focus on the demon arc from which Hazbin Hotel ended up emerging.
She should write soap operas... in soap operas (at least in Brazil) there are multiple groups of characters with their own stories and personal problems while the protagonists continue to be the main story. Soap opera writers have multiple characters but... they have a deadline to finish the soap opera in 200 chapters (the soap opera is daily from Monday to Saturday) and the television channel is on their back to finish the story. But I'm talking about how things are in Latin America... it seems that in the US there is no such deadline (it seems that there are soap operas that last for decades there in the US)
Sounds like Vivzie needs a team to keep her on task lol. She doesn't have the capacity of prolific creators like Oda (creator of One Piece) to make hundreds of characters and balance the main plot and going in depth with the background of all the characters.
That sounds exactly like how I write my first drafts. I start out with a cool idea and a couple partially fleshed-out characters and just start adding anything that pops into my head. Eventually, things start contradicting each other and interesting implications are raised, so I start pruning out the things that no longer fit and exploring the said implications. By the end of it, the story usually looks drastically different from how it started out, and I have a functional outline. Discarded pieces of story generally litter the floor, ready to be picked up and recombined into other tales the moment I have the time and inclination.
@@Lucky_Dagger even Oda can’t balance that many characters. Honestly, I kinda don’t care about 75% of the characters in One piece. Too many characters will always make it hard to care about all the extras
@@Lucky_DaggerOda has an entire team with him. Yes, he’s always played up as Goda and Oda sensei and the big mastermind and getting leeway for steering WSJs flagship but he has a team. As do all other WSJ authors. The team behind it usually is not discussed because it sells better having one face for a work. Oda had multiple editors over the years (they tend to change regularly) as well as assistants. No matter how long Oda worked on One Piece, he still needs people to point things out to him. Plus he spent over 27 years on his work. Viv’s career isn’t even close to as long yet. Things like the supernova were essentially an Editors idea for example. Also, One Piece is Odas full time job. Zoophobia is (one of) Viv’s very first projects and she worked on it on her own while going to university/ working on other things. Naturally it will be less refined. Working with a team isn’t a sign that someone is a bad writer or lacks in skills. It’s simply the professional thing to do, especially when working on a multiple season show. Oda couldn’t do it on his own either so that is terrible comparison.
I think i can see the biggest problem with this series. It desperately suffers from a lack of focus. The first chapter would lead you to believe that this is a story about a girl with zoophobia forced live in a world filled with anthropomorphic animals that she can't leave, but less than 2 chapters in we get introduced to all this hell and gods stuff and it feels like two shows got smooshed together. No wonder all the supernatural stuff got chopped off and repurposed into Hazbin / Helluva. It also doesn't help that it just could not stop introducing new characters and concepts without fleshing out the ones it already had. When you summarized chapter two I couldn't help but feel like it had this "and then, and then" kind of storytelling, with each "and then" being a new character or new thing. As I was getting into the hellaverse I would hear things about zoophobia from tim to time and I couldn't help but think, "why does a story about anthropomorphic characters have a heaven and hell arc?" After learning all the context I can safely say that it still doesn't really fit to me
Remember you’re reading the output of an evolving author, solo drawing each page. It looks pretty stream-of-consciousness at some points, as the shown what-if and early storyboards / discarded characters show. She was even paying cash to include design work from others, early on. I picked up in the first few pages it was a wandering narrative.
As a story its uh... not great at best, but as a first drawing and writing excercise (i dont remember how you're supposed to write excersize) its just silly fun, which is pretty great too.
As someone who read the comic as it was coming out, it was fun but a narrative mess. It would have been better if we were introduced to the characters through their interactions with the main character, but instead Cameron got stuffed in the background. This means we don't get the chance to really know her or form an interest in her relationship to the other characters. It also bogs down the pacing and feels unfocused. Like Viv was skipping important details to get to the parts she was more excited to write. Overall, interesting concept but amatuer execution. Now that she's got more experience under her belt I'd be interested to see her revisit the series.
@@thelivingliver6715 Not to give Viv too much credit since while I do think it's better thought out, the those issues in Helluva Boss aren't not there completely, but I partially blame Hazbin on the 10 episode structure + how mainstream animated projects are prone to get cancelled early on lately. HH feels like a show that should have had 12-15 eps for season one but wasn't afforded that. I'm hoping now that Viv has seasons 2, 3, and 4 greenlit, meaning 30 more eps at least to plan the story out, she'll use the time to properly space the story bits a little knowing she has some breathing room.

Though it did allow me to participate in a very interesting discussion Regarding Spam in the Silhouette music video's comments with how Spam's behavior between the webcomic and the pilot are different from the music video. After someone posted they didn't understand the personality shift I brought up the point that Spam has clear signs of depression (and survivor's guilt) which he's covering up/hiding from his friends with his upbeat energetic attitude so they don't have to worry about him. Something that I easily recognized because I was suffering from severe depression without medication myself and was doing the same thing with my friends.

This is clearly just a young writer/artist's OC parade where she threw every fun world building idea at the wall to see what sticks. She's made so much progress as a writer since Zoophobia. It was a smart move to set the Hellaverse in heaven/hell because it gives her the ability to come up with as many crazy OC designs as she wants without the world feeling bloated and disjointed. If this were to come back I think it would work best as a location inside hell. Or if it were a stand alone project, cut all the mythological stuff and focus in on Cameron's phobia and the anthro characters.
Except she really hasn’t made that much progress as a writer. After trying to watch her actual shows, they are so contrived and hard to follow, not to mention poorly written and convoluted. I admire her hard work and art, but she really cannot write well and does not seem determined to learn how to do so.
That's laughable she completely lost the main draw of Helluva Boss and turned it into a trauma misery feast. The series has lost the balance of humor and doesn't experiment with the cast enough. Like Milly barely interacts with anyone, she might as well be a tumor on her husband.

as someone working on my own comics, zoophobia is really charming in the way that a person's first real try at creating a comic is. it's unfocused, has too many characters, and just isn't well thought out or properly planned - but there's something really endearing about a story in this state. with a bit of a rework i think it could totally be a fun idea, if viv has any interest in that in the future.
I think problem is with all her project is too many characters but not much focus on plot or development.All her characters and designs are wonderful but story goes down and thats big problem.
I think one of the biggest issues of the original Zoophobia comic is not just the bloated cast but also the bloated world There are talking animals of irregular sizes, anthros, humanoids with animal traits who can shapeshift, ghosts, demons and mythological creatures all at once, I think it would've made more sense to only focus on the anthros and giant animals
I agree. I remember being really excited about the concept with Cam having to face her fears, learning about herself while helping others and maybe uncovering a deeper threat to the world (though not vampires/demons so the theme is consistent) and being kind of disappointed when she didn't show up very much. I'm not opposed to the idea of the characters being shifters as a whole (maybe they turn human to blend in with the human world for necessary travel, and it becomes a part of Cams arc and her accepting them for who they really are, not their disguises), but I agree keeping them as just animals makes sense, also the whole "just be human" thing was already done very well in Nimona and it might be too similar.
I think it would’ve been better if they just explained it as “the anthro animals are spirits, and spirits can be mythical creatures like demons and vampires” boom done. Just explained the world without needing seven paragraphs
thats hard to say if it will ever come back to light, Viv was so young when she made this and it really shows. It seems immature and naive, which is how most first ocs end up. It seems her younger self was bursting with stories for her characters but not mature enough to really create a bigger story. I can honeslty relate though, I had a couple OCs from middle school that I ditched due to maturing and wanting to move on from them and create better ones (not trying to talk for Viv but this is just what I experienced)
I miss Zoophobia, I had a little small fixation on it for a bit when I first heard about it and started to read it and research some of the lore. Not a Vivziepop fan personally, but I honestly enjoyed it despite it's very chaotic and too many characters to focus on one single one plot. I wish Cameron wasn't pushed so much into the back though. I also wish we got to see of JayJay in the actual comics! I love that design and the Die Young music video!
I honestly miss Zoophobia, I remember back when Vivziepop used to make speed draw videos of her characters. I hope one day we can see the ZP cast again.
I’ve been a fan of Vivziepop for ten years now. And I love her old Speedpaint videos of her old Zoophobia characters. But though I kinda wish that this series was rebooted. I honestly don’t know HOW this series would be fleshed out, especially with SO Many characters. I know that the Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss series has a lot of characters, but Zoophobia beats them by, well…a lot. And honestly, I don’t think I could follow the plot of a Zoophobia series like I can with the two Hellaverse series. And yeah, I know that the two existing series have their flaws, but I know that things will smooth out when both series progress. Then again, I would love to know how the Zoophobia series would’ve ended if it was rebooted.
If Viv was to bring this back, my questions would pretty much boil down to "how should she do it" types. Should it be another series or should it be a movie? Should she direct/write it by herself or with others? If she's doing it with others, who should helm it with her? Who should be in charge of distribution if it's a movie? Should it be lighthearted or retain Hazbin and Helluva's mix of light and dark? Should she start off with Cameron again or shift focus? You know, those kind of questions.
I think Zoophobia needs to be welcomed back into the Viv fandom. Not just for old fans like me but for new fans to see how far she has come. I would like to see a reboot or rewrite of zoophobia one day as I think the concept should not be scrapped entirely.
It's interesting to see Vivzie's strong focus on animal designs that transferred over to the Hellaverse as well as designs in general she plucked. Though I do notice the same flaw that's carried Vivzie even to now and that's way too many characters introduced and then juggling all these plots to make these new characters relevant, it makes the plot easy to lose focus in. Luckily, Hazbin Hotel has professionals on board to help keep things focused and forward, but I definitely notice this flaw a LOT more in Helluva Boss. Another thing, and I only know this from someone who was in the Vivziepop art circles at the time, is that Vivzie adopted a LOT of character designs from other people. Some have said stole too, but that was largely when Vivzie was 15-16 years old so idk just sounds like classic teenage DA drama to me. That's probably why possible rebrands or reboots of Zoophobia feature a LOT less characters is because she axed or removed characters she later realized she didn't own the rights to or didn't feel right even after adopting that design.
You can tell Viv really enjoys developing characters a lot more than developing plot/stories. You see it in everything she makes (and yes I'm saying this as a fan). Helluva Boss, Zoophobia, and Hazbin all have interesting designs and characters but in all 3 they suffer from the same problems where characters are either just existing in a story for the point of existing, side/secondary characters outshine the main characters, or the story has some big plot holes caused by putting all the focus on getting to point B in a characters arc rather than how we're going to get there. Characters are quickly introduced when they don't need to be yet which is easy to do when you really love a character you've made and you want to show them. But that causes things to end up feeling disorganised at times.
I have followed vivziepop for a LONGGGG time and Zoophobia was one of my favorite projects. I was so sad when she stopped working on it, but was super excited when she made an animated mini episode of it a few years ago, very nostalgic and got me in my feels. I also miss her older art style, so much whimsy and attention to detail.
I miss Zoophobia. It was in my childhood a little longer than the old hazbin speedpaints from 2015. I was literally ranting to my brother about Zoophobia a few days ago too lol. I have so many favorite characters (some are in hazbin now), I wish and hope it comes back.

Wouldn’t mind it being reworked into the Gluttony (the Furry) Ring and ironically become a spin off of Helluva Boss. Gluttony comes off as a pretty chill ring but one that can have a bunch of messed up stuff happen in it so yeah, make Cameron a confused newly fallen angel who’s sent to the Gluttony and made a counselor for Gluttony natives
Yeah but since Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss became their own thing Viv has officially stated that Zoophobia is not part of that universe because of how heaven and hell are depicted...
@ I know, that’s why I said ‘reworked’ it couldn’t be the same story 1 for 1 but we could have a similar story told within the Helluverse. Like instead of humans going to the the sanctuary and essentially being trapped they make them angels (banished or fallen) who are not allowed to wonder out of Gluttony (or their designated refugee Ring for a bigger lore dump). Gluttony it self is a safe haven for mammal based native demons. Instead of the big players like Lucifer and the 7 sins as antagonists, make them Goetia, Eldridge monsters, or other high status demons. All and all story wise Hazin challenges Hell and Heavens structure when it comes to human souls, Helluva challenges Hell’s native social structure and Zoophobia could challenge the literal structure of Hell it self with a magical upheaval of some kind, something threatening the Rings and their order. Or it could be smaller scale and simple like the Sanctuary not being subjected to the Hell Hound slave trade because of a magical barrier and the outside forces Zoophobia talked about were other demons selling them off because from their POV they don’t know how bad it is beyond the barrier.
I was there when the comic started and remember a lot of the early theories that came along with the series. It was pretty fun. I also remember her info dumping on her Deviant Art and Tumblr, a lot about Addison and Mirage.
It's just so intersting thinking about why Cameron was sent there. I read the comic a couple years back and I just want to know why the Casey sent Cameron there. There's something off about her and I want to know so badly.
I wished this can come back, i genuinely loved the comic, it got me into viv and art in general. The story reminded me of a more fantasy reversal of Futurama, the characters are unique with distinct designs, and the background art is phenomenal. There was also the short Bad Luck Jack, which was absolutely amazing. I remember seeing speculation from Cartoon Universe that zoophobia could potentially return as a spinoff of helluva boss but in the gluttony ring, which could POTENTIALLY work if viv played her cards right. The short was supposed to be one of a series of shorts that would follow each member of the main five, but Bad Luck was the only one made. I hope viv can make zoophobia have a comback in the future, not soon, but one day...
Helluva boss was the first animated series I notice from Vivziepop, the it was Hazbin Hotel and Lastly Zoophobia which I love more then the other two. I wish we can get more of Zoophobia.
Honestly, I don't keep up with Zoophobia. I mean I love the animated short, But other than that I don't keep up with it's other forms of media, And I hope that Viv will be able to do more with the franchise someday.
I really appreciate this video. I love HB and HH, but when I watched the ZP short, I just found it to be a lot of chaos and irritating. It's really cool to see where some of the stuff in HH and HB came from, but with each summary of the chapters, I got more confused and annoyed about how tangential a lot of it felt even in such a great video. I feel like ZP suffers from "I have X amount of cool ideas that I can force them to weave together" rather than partitioning them into more manageable stories. That said, I'd like to see the werewolf characters in HB (but their color palettes wouldn't fit maybe unless Bee's ring has some more color to outside of her palace and the hound pound.
I think the choice to cut out Cameron was kind of a good one. She seems like a every man type that doesn't really have a character of her own. She could work as a protagonist if she was worked on a little more.
God I'll never forget zoophobia. It helped me get through covid and help me get out of bed during that time. I always defended it when it went under controversy and I'll always hold the series close to my heart and will dearly miss it.
Thank you for making this well developed dive on the series, four years ago i dived into the forgotten series of Zoophobia and it’s story. Looking back at it, I see why it was pushed over to create along with expanding more recognizable characters like both the hell series but at least we got the Bad Luck Jack to reflect on a relic that made Vivziepop’s work and designs stand out.
Zoophobia had potential. It had a good characters, great artwork and a decent concept. But it just kinda went off the rails and became too cluttered. If I did the comic differently, it would've been about a young person who is trying to make it out on their own after leaving home but is struggling to get the hang of it, and they basically get the help from their new friends and they kind of grow as a person. Also as for the anthropomorphic animal characters, since this is kind of a fish out of water story, I'd have it feel like an allegory of leaving the safe, comforting and familiar childhood home, and into a strange and unfamiliar place where everyone is different. Like a take on the phrase "it's a zoo out there".
I had recently just starting looking into this series I’ve heard but never thought about it that much but then I gave it a try and oh my gosh I really wish this was still around this series is so cool and amazing!! The comics are so amazing!! The old art viv did in the comics is just majestic and when watching bad luck jack it was gorgeous I absolutely loved it i really honestly hope some point in time viv can come back or get convinced to come back to zoophobia and make it like a show like hazbin hotel and helluva boss it’s amazing and the characters are amazing and cool (I like Jack a lot he’s adorable) Really needs more attention and love I beg of Viv to come back to this series
What I personally like about Zoophobia is how much it reminds me of this massive roleplay I do with my friends over on Discord so much. A lot of good and bad things you can say about Zoophobia can be said about it. Especially the large amount of OCs... We also have WAY too many lol.

Ever since I first watched the ZooPhobia short "Bad Luck Jack" I started loving it so much that I watched it two times I'm about to watch it again❤ I hope zoophobia comes back❤❤❤, and to be honest I wish she made a show series with ZooPhobia
The only output of Vizziepop I've seen was Hazbin Hotel. While entertaining, it escalated from redeeming sinners to save hell from heaven's invasion almost immediatley. Seeing this summary of Zoophobia makes me realizer that Vizziepop hasn't changed.
I wonder if viv would ever consider letting another author take the reins of the series. Reviving it into a show or back into a comic with a more focused plot.
Honestly my favorite character out of all of Viv’s characters, and one of my personal comfort characters, has got to be JayJay the werewolf. Months ago I met Viv at a convention and asked if JayJay will return at some point. She said that she does still want to do something with her character, but she’s on the shelf for now. I can’t help but wonder what we were going to see regarding JayJay in book 2. Here’s hoping she does return at some point!
Listening to everything about this story including scrapped, cut, and unused storylines and characters that would have appeared had the series continued is like hearing a story or chara ters someone came up in their head if they ever did use them for something like a series. I feel like we all have a set of characters that stuck with us that we want to use to tell a story with, and Vivzie had that with these characters she created, whether they got changed or stayed the same
I've watched the short, and ever since then, I've been hoping for the full animated version of this story. Also, I think that Zeezi (the Godzilla like overlord in Hazbin) got her design from Zoophobia. It's a lot different than most other character designs.
I understand why she stopped the project altogether I hope that she is willing to revisit Zoophobia in the future but if she doesn’t, I don’t blame her.

Damn it i would like to see someone like demian(Son of satan in zoophobia)Cameo sometime but yeah the comic seen to randomly focused on something instead of our main character. I'm only recently learning about Vivziepop's different stories and i personally love the different world building and and Vivzies drawing style but i would like to understand why people are so toxic cause it ultimately seems like its pointless and has no justification cause it ruins the experience of fans and content creators usually end up packing things in on another note i can totally relate to the accent situation of the short I'm from Liverpool and have a scouse accent so when i hear someone from London putting on a scouse accent it also sounds very stereotypical while there are plenty of famous scousers such as Jason Isaacs and Stephen graham

Everyone already pointed out but watching you read through the comics really made me realize how overwhelming and rushed it all feels, because so many characters were added in such a short period of time and it just fucks up your attention span which makes it so you're not really able to focus on anyone. It just doesnt feel very nice to read despite the concept. I'd say it's a good concept with a flawed execution.
I honestly really like Zoophobia, its extremely unique and you can tell that Viv put so much years of love into these characters. It just screams Vivzie srsly I hope she gets back into it
I wouldn't call it "Failed Masterpiece" honestly it sounds more like a mix of random and edgy things that Vivzie liked. It has its amateur charm, I'm not going to deny it, part of me likes the absurdly old Tumblr style but honestly, the plot was obviously not going anywhere, there were plenty of characters, worlds, etc, but most of it seemed disconnected and a bit inserted just because Vivzie wanted it and not because of a true intention to tell a story. I honestly understand why Vivzie preferred to focus on Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, even if they are shows that I have a lot of problems with, their plots are somewhat more focused, although Zoophobia has a charm, it didn't really aim at anything, it was mostly Vivzie throwing ideas without context to her drawings.
Honestly, Zoophobia was good for what it was made for, just a place for experience to be made and learned for Vivzie, I honestly think it had a bit too much going on but it was great for just practice and showcasing ocs
I don't like Zoophobia, it makes me feel overwhelmed with lots of vibrant and saturated colors popping everywhere because of the huge amount of characters, and most of the backgrounds are pretty simple with warm colors, which makes every character to stand out, but not in a pleasant way. The composition goes brr in every shot, and it feels like it tries so hard to introduce every character to the viewer, and consequently they feel like they are going to be important later on, just to not being actually important, it makes me wish this was more settled down.
i first found vivziepop on youtube doing speedpaints of her characters from zoophobia, and i followed her work all the way until hazbin hotel was in development. i enjoyed her unique artstyle especially in her webcomicss

I loved Zoophobia so much, and I followed it regularly, and I hope it returns fully but for now its been in hiatus limbo for so long it feels abandoned and Viv's other shows just lack IT for me.
My god they’re are so many characters!??! No wonder she wanted to rewrite everything, it seems like she had A LOT planned. Too much planned. Ever for me, she wanted to add so many more random characters. It seems like there was really no focus planned out.
Honestly I would love to see Viv pick this back up as a new show. Maybe slim down the cast or introduce them at a slower pace and Zoophobia could be an awesome series
I would counter that it sounds like ZP is just a thing that can get by on just character vignettes and goofs - like comic STRIPS in the style of the old Peanuts, or Popeye, or ESPECIALLY early Garfield strips, or like Hello Kitty and other Sanrio characters. Not everything needs a plot or overarching story.
idk, Viv doesn't seem like she's gotten that much better at writing a story. Her current shows still have a lot of the same problems this did (cramming in too much stuff/characters all at once, starting with one plot, giving it barely any time, and then going right into another, ect) And some new ones, like a lot of the hellverse characters having Daddy issues as thier main problem XD At least her animation is pretty, i guess.
It really did feel like five different series all crammed together. Supernatural, sci-fi, romcom, sitcom, dromedy with as many plots as it has characters, and so so many characters. I doubt we will ever see more from it at this point. Which is sad, and we know the trolls are to blame more than anything else.
Honestly, from what I've seen, issues and all, I genuinely would've preferred this to get greenlit and focused on over the Hellaverse. It just seems more "whimsical" than them, it's easier to get cozy with, and obviously, it has a lot of the same DNA anyway, being the beta version of Hazbin. It's like the cuter parts of Vivs modern work distilled into raw adorability. The obvious difference is that Hazbin/Helluva are much more adult themed, whereas this is slightly more all ages with minimal swearing. However, I honestly don't like how crude and "adult" the Hellaverse is. I love it because of the awesome modernized Christian "Ethereal Eternity" type worldbuilding. (Obviously theres also music, character character and animation, but its vivziepop and the quality there is consistent.) Honestly it seems like a Hellsing ultimate abridged fan dub of itself half the time, where Zoophobia seems more like a fairytale that plays itself straight with only a fairly subtle adult joke every now and then, like Tenta's entire existence. I think it has more potential, had it been given the same opportunities. I know it would need a lot of work to tighten its story up, and I know it would be completely unfair to force Vizie to dig up a project she made in highschool. Trust me, I'm an amateur writer myself, I know you can fall out of love with stories you once lived and breathed. I just personally wish things had turned out differently.
I think this coulds been a great story but with her being younger and more inexperienced back then it would be alot to keep track off. Anf with the large amount of different sub plots it feels like an amateur fic which is fine im sure alot of us were like but that but Im happy she kinda split these stories up with the hellaverse i hope she brings this back now that theres alot less content as the hellaverse has taken it.
The other problem was that as the story progressed, she added characters and according to her, each of them had their own lore, this is supported by the character sheets that each one had and although she said that they would be relevant, many of the main plots were forgotten for some reason, she decided to focus on the demon arc from which Hazbin Hotel ended up emerging.
She should write soap operas... in soap operas (at least in Brazil) there are multiple groups of characters with their own stories and personal problems while the protagonists continue to be the main story.
Soap opera writers have multiple characters but... they have a deadline to finish the soap opera in 200 chapters (the soap opera is daily from Monday to Saturday) and the television channel is on their back to finish the story.
But I'm talking about how things are in Latin America... it seems that in the US there is no such deadline (it seems that there are soap operas that last for decades there in the US)
Sounds like Vivzie needs a team to keep her on task lol. She doesn't have the capacity of prolific creators like Oda (creator of One Piece) to make hundreds of characters and balance the main plot and going in depth with the background of all the characters.
That sounds exactly like how I write my first drafts. I start out with a cool idea and a couple partially fleshed-out characters and just start adding anything that pops into my head. Eventually, things start contradicting each other and interesting implications are raised, so I start pruning out the things that no longer fit and exploring the said implications. By the end of it, the story usually looks drastically different from how it started out, and I have a functional outline. Discarded pieces of story generally litter the floor, ready to be picked up and recombined into other tales the moment I have the time and inclination.

@@Lucky_DaggerOda has an entire team with him. Yes, he’s always played up as Goda and Oda sensei and the big mastermind and getting leeway for steering WSJs flagship but he has a team. As do all other WSJ authors. The team behind it usually is not discussed because it sells better having one face for a work. Oda had multiple editors over the years (they tend to change regularly) as well as assistants. No matter how long Oda worked on One Piece, he still needs people to point things out to him. Plus he spent over 27 years on his work. Viv’s career isn’t even close to as long yet. Things like the supernova were essentially an Editors idea for example. Also, One Piece is Odas full time job. Zoophobia is (one of) Viv’s very first projects and she worked on it on her own while going to university/ working on other things. Naturally it will be less refined. Working with a team isn’t a sign that someone is a bad writer or lacks in skills. It’s simply the professional thing to do, especially when working on a multiple season show. Oda couldn’t do it on his own either so that is terrible comparison.
I think i can see the biggest problem with this series. It desperately suffers from a lack of focus. The first chapter would lead you to believe that this is a story about a girl with zoophobia forced live in a world filled with anthropomorphic animals that she can't leave, but less than 2 chapters in we get introduced to all this hell and gods stuff and it feels like two shows got smooshed together. No wonder all the supernatural stuff got chopped off and repurposed into Hazbin / Helluva. It also doesn't help that it just could not stop introducing new characters and concepts without fleshing out the ones it already had. When you summarized chapter two I couldn't help but feel like it had this "and then, and then" kind of storytelling, with each "and then" being a new character or new thing. As I was getting into the hellaverse I would hear things about zoophobia from tim to time and I couldn't help but think, "why does a story about anthropomorphic characters have a heaven and hell arc?" After learning all the context I can safely say that it still doesn't really fit to me
Remember you’re reading the output of an evolving author, solo drawing each page. It looks pretty stream-of-consciousness at some points, as the shown what-if and early storyboards / discarded characters show. She was even paying cash to include design work from others, early on. I picked up in the first few pages it was a wandering narrative.
Agreed, it's honestly almost incomprehensible. It could easily be broken into several separate shows/universes and still would have tons of content

As a story its uh... not great at best, but as a first drawing and writing excercise (i dont remember how you're supposed to write excersize) its just silly fun, which is pretty great too.
If you ask me, I think her work seriously deserves either a fully-fledged remake or a reboot.
As someone who read the comic as it was coming out, it was fun but a narrative mess. It would have been better if we were introduced to the characters through their interactions with the main character, but instead Cameron got stuffed in the background. This means we don't get the chance to really know her or form an interest in her relationship to the other characters. It also bogs down the pacing and feels unfocused. Like Viv was skipping important details to get to the parts she was more excited to write.
Overall, interesting concept but amatuer execution. Now that she's got more experience under her belt I'd be interested to see her revisit the series.

@@thelivingliver6715 Not to give Viv too much credit since while I do think it's better thought out, the those issues in Helluva Boss aren't not there completely, but I partially blame Hazbin on the 10 episode structure + how mainstream animated projects are prone to get cancelled early on lately. HH feels like a show that should have had 12-15 eps for season one but wasn't afforded that. I'm hoping now that Viv has seasons 2, 3, and 4 greenlit, meaning 30 more eps at least to plan the story out, she'll use the time to properly space the story bits a little knowing she has some breathing room.

I thought it was fine. I would’ve maybe gave it more of a Pilot feeling. A lot of it just expects you to already know who the characters are.

Though it did allow me to participate in a very interesting discussion Regarding Spam in the Silhouette music video's comments with how Spam's behavior between the webcomic and the pilot are different from the music video.
After someone posted they didn't understand the personality shift I brought up the point that Spam has clear signs of depression (and survivor's guilt) which he's covering up/hiding from his friends with his upbeat energetic attitude so they don't have to worry about him.
Something that I easily recognized because I was suffering from severe depression without medication myself and was doing the same thing with my friends.
@ I honestly think if they just did an animated version of the first comic it would’ve been great! Just flesh out the main 5 a bit more and make the main chick like the guy from Hellboy 2004 of how we’re kinda learning the world through her.
This is clearly just a young writer/artist's OC parade where she threw every fun world building idea at the wall to see what sticks. She's made so much progress as a writer since Zoophobia. It was a smart move to set the Hellaverse in heaven/hell because it gives her the ability to come up with as many crazy OC designs as she wants without the world feeling bloated and disjointed. If this were to come back I think it would work best as a location inside hell. Or if it were a stand alone project, cut all the mythological stuff and focus in on Cameron's phobia and the anthro characters.
Except she really hasn’t made that much progress as a writer. After trying to watch her actual shows, they are so contrived and hard to follow, not to mention poorly written and convoluted. I admire her hard work and art, but she really cannot write well and does not seem determined to learn how to do so.
That's laughable she completely lost the main draw of Helluva Boss and turned it into a trauma misery feast. The series has lost the balance of humor and doesn't experiment with the cast enough. Like Milly barely interacts with anyone, she might as well be a tumor on her husband.

as someone working on my own comics, zoophobia is really charming in the way that a person's first real try at creating a comic is. it's unfocused, has too many characters, and just isn't well thought out or properly planned - but there's something really endearing about a story in this state. with a bit of a rework i think it could totally be a fun idea, if viv has any interest in that in the future.

I think one of the biggest issues of the original Zoophobia comic is not just the bloated cast but also the bloated world
There are talking animals of irregular sizes, anthros, humanoids with animal traits who can shapeshift, ghosts, demons and mythological creatures all at once, I think it would've made more sense to only focus on the anthros and giant animals

I remember being really excited about the concept with Cam having to face her fears, learning about herself while helping others and maybe uncovering a deeper threat to the world (though not vampires/demons so the theme is consistent) and being kind of disappointed when she didn't show up very much.
I'm not opposed to the idea of the characters being shifters as a whole (maybe they turn human to blend in with the human world for necessary travel, and it becomes a part of Cams arc and her accepting them for who they really are, not their disguises), but I agree keeping them as just animals makes sense, also the whole "just be human" thing was already done very well in Nimona and it might be too similar.
I think it would’ve been better if they just explained it as “the anthro animals are spirits, and spirits can be mythical creatures like demons and vampires” boom done. Just explained the world without needing seven paragraphs

thats hard to say if it will ever come back to light, Viv was so young when she made this and it really shows. It seems immature and naive, which is how most first ocs end up. It seems her younger self was bursting with stories for her characters but not mature enough to really create a bigger story. I can honeslty relate though, I had a couple OCs from middle school that I ditched due to maturing and wanting to move on from them and create better ones (not trying to talk for Viv but this is just what I experienced)
I hope Zoophobia also has a series being a reboot.

I miss Zoophobia, I had a little small fixation on it for a bit when I first heard about it and started to read it and research some of the lore. Not a Vivziepop fan personally, but I honestly enjoyed it despite it's very chaotic and too many characters to focus on one single one plot. I wish Cameron wasn't pushed so much into the back though.
I also wish we got to see of JayJay in the actual comics! I love that design and the Die Young music video!

I honestly miss Zoophobia, I remember back when Vivziepop used to make speed draw videos of her characters. I hope one day we can see the ZP cast again.
I’ve been a fan of Vivziepop for ten years now. And I love her old Speedpaint videos of her old Zoophobia characters. But though I kinda wish that this series was rebooted. I honestly don’t know HOW this series would be fleshed out, especially with SO Many characters. I know that the Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss series has a lot of characters, but Zoophobia beats them by, well…a lot. And honestly, I don’t think I could follow the plot of a Zoophobia series like I can with the two Hellaverse series. And yeah, I know that the two existing series have their flaws, but I know that things will smooth out when both series progress. Then again, I would love to know how the Zoophobia series would’ve ended if it was rebooted.
She would absolutely need to learn to "kill your darlings." It's a good rule in writing to cut things down to keep the story focused.
If Viv was to bring this back, my questions would pretty much boil down to "how should she do it" types.
Should it be another series or should it be a movie?
Should she direct/write it by herself or with others?
If she's doing it with others, who should helm it with her?
Who should be in charge of distribution if it's a movie?
Should it be lighthearted or retain Hazbin and Helluva's mix of light and dark?
Should she start off with Cameron again or shift focus?
You know, those kind of questions.

I think Zoophobia needs to be welcomed back into the Viv fandom. Not just for old fans like me but for new fans to see how far she has come. I would like to see a reboot or rewrite of zoophobia one day as I think the concept should not be scrapped entirely.
It's interesting to see Vivzie's strong focus on animal designs that transferred over to the Hellaverse as well as designs in general she plucked. Though I do notice the same flaw that's carried Vivzie even to now and that's way too many characters introduced and then juggling all these plots to make these new characters relevant, it makes the plot easy to lose focus in. Luckily, Hazbin Hotel has professionals on board to help keep things focused and forward, but I definitely notice this flaw a LOT more in Helluva Boss.
Another thing, and I only know this from someone who was in the Vivziepop art circles at the time, is that Vivzie adopted a LOT of character designs from other people. Some have said stole too, but that was largely when Vivzie was 15-16 years old so idk just sounds like classic teenage DA drama to me. That's probably why possible rebrands or reboots of Zoophobia feature a LOT less characters is because she axed or removed characters she later realized she didn't own the rights to or didn't feel right even after adopting that design.

You can tell Viv really enjoys developing characters a lot more than developing plot/stories. You see it in everything she makes (and yes I'm saying this as a fan). Helluva Boss, Zoophobia, and Hazbin all have interesting designs and characters but in all 3 they suffer from the same problems where characters are either just existing in a story for the point of existing, side/secondary characters outshine the main characters, or the story has some big plot holes caused by putting all the focus on getting to point B in a characters arc rather than how we're going to get there. Characters are quickly introduced when they don't need to be yet which is easy to do when you really love a character you've made and you want to show them. But that causes things to end up feeling disorganised at times.
I have followed vivziepop for a LONGGGG time and Zoophobia was one of my favorite projects. I was so sad when she stopped working on it, but was super excited when she made an animated mini episode of it a few years ago, very nostalgic and got me in my feels.
I also miss her older art style, so much whimsy and attention to detail.
I miss Zoophobia. It was in my childhood a little longer than the old hazbin speedpaints from 2015. I was literally ranting to my brother about Zoophobia a few days ago too lol. I have so many favorite characters (some are in hazbin now), I wish and hope it comes back.

Gluttony comes off as a pretty chill ring but one that can have a bunch of messed up stuff happen in it so yeah, make Cameron a confused newly fallen angel who’s sent to the Gluttony and made a counselor for Gluttony natives
Yeah but since Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss became their own thing Viv has officially stated that Zoophobia is not part of that universe because of how heaven and hell are depicted...
@ I know, that’s why I said ‘reworked’ it couldn’t be the same story 1 for 1 but we could have a similar story told within the Helluverse. Like instead of humans going to the the sanctuary and essentially being trapped they make them angels (banished or fallen) who are not allowed to wonder out of Gluttony (or their designated refugee Ring for a bigger lore dump). Gluttony it self is a safe haven for mammal based native demons. Instead of the big players like Lucifer and the 7 sins as antagonists, make them Goetia, Eldridge monsters, or other high status demons.
All and all story wise Hazin challenges Hell and Heavens structure when it comes to human souls, Helluva challenges Hell’s native social structure and Zoophobia could challenge the literal structure of Hell it self with a magical upheaval of some kind, something threatening the Rings and their order. Or it could be smaller scale and simple like the Sanctuary not being subjected to the Hell Hound slave trade because of a magical barrier and the outside forces Zoophobia talked about were other demons selling them off because from their POV they don’t know how bad it is beyond the barrier.

I was there when the comic started and remember a lot of the early theories that came along with the series. It was pretty fun. I also remember her info dumping on her Deviant Art and Tumblr, a lot about Addison and Mirage.
She sent Cameron knowing she'll try to leave, thus destroying the barrier.
It's just so intersting thinking about why Cameron was sent there. I read the comic a couple years back and I just want to know why the Casey sent Cameron there. There's something off about her and I want to know so badly.
I would honestly love to see Viv return to Zoophobia again someday, for the nostalgia more than anything
I wished this can come back, i genuinely loved the comic, it got me into viv and art in general. The story reminded me of a more fantasy reversal of Futurama, the characters are unique with distinct designs, and the background art is phenomenal. There was also the short Bad Luck Jack, which was absolutely amazing. I remember seeing speculation from Cartoon Universe that zoophobia could potentially return as a spinoff of helluva boss but in the gluttony ring, which could POTENTIALLY work if viv played her cards right. The short was supposed to be one of a series of shorts that would follow each member of the main five, but Bad Luck was the only one made. I hope viv can make zoophobia have a comback in the future, not soon, but one day...
Helluva boss was the first animated series I notice from Vivziepop, the it was Hazbin Hotel and Lastly Zoophobia which I love more then the other two. I wish we can get more of Zoophobia.
Honestly, I don't keep up with Zoophobia. I mean I love the animated short, But other than that I don't keep up with it's other forms of media, And I hope that Viv will be able to do more with the franchise someday.
I really appreciate this video. I love HB and HH, but when I watched the ZP short, I just found it to be a lot of chaos and irritating. It's really cool to see where some of the stuff in HH and HB came from, but with each summary of the chapters, I got more confused and annoyed about how tangential a lot of it felt even in such a great video. I feel like ZP suffers from "I have X amount of cool ideas that I can force them to weave together" rather than partitioning them into more manageable stories.
That said, I'd like to see the werewolf characters in HB (but their color palettes wouldn't fit maybe unless Bee's ring has some more color to outside of her palace and the hound pound.
Honestly hope Viv returns to this project in a revamped capacity. I really enjoyed the Bad Luck Jack short personally and love the style of Zoophobia.
I think the choice to cut out Cameron was kind of a good one. She seems like a every man type that doesn't really have a character of her own. She could work as a protagonist if she was worked on a little more.
God I'll never forget zoophobia. It helped me get through covid and help me get out of bed during that time. I always defended it when it went under controversy and I'll always hold the series close to my heart and will dearly miss it.

Thank you for making this well developed dive on the series, four years ago i dived into the forgotten series of Zoophobia and it’s story. Looking back at it, I see why it was pushed over to create along with expanding more recognizable characters like both the hell series but at least we got the Bad Luck Jack to reflect on a relic that made Vivziepop’s work and designs stand out.

Zoophobia had potential. It had a good characters, great artwork and a decent concept.
But it just kinda went off the rails and became too cluttered.
If I did the comic differently, it would've been about a young person who is trying to make it out on their own after leaving home but is struggling to get the hang of it, and they basically get the help from their new friends and they kind of grow as a person.
Also as for the anthropomorphic animal characters, since this is kind of a fish out of water story, I'd have it feel like an allegory of leaving the safe, comforting and familiar childhood home, and into a strange and unfamiliar place where everyone is different. Like a take on the phrase "it's a zoo out there".

The comics are so amazing!! The old art viv did in the comics is just majestic and when watching bad luck jack it was gorgeous I absolutely loved it i really honestly hope some point in time viv can come back or get convinced to come back to zoophobia and make it like a show like hazbin hotel and helluva boss it’s amazing and the characters are amazing and cool (I like Jack a lot he’s adorable)

The only output of Vizziepop I've seen was Hazbin Hotel. While entertaining, it escalated from redeeming sinners to save hell from heaven's invasion almost immediatley.
Seeing this summary of Zoophobia makes me realizer that Vizziepop hasn't changed.
I wonder if viv would ever consider letting another author take the reins of the series. Reviving it into a show or back into a comic with a more focused plot.
Honestly my favorite character out of all of Viv’s characters, and one of my personal comfort characters, has got to be JayJay the werewolf. Months ago I met Viv at a convention and asked if JayJay will return at some point. She said that she does still want to do something with her character, but she’s on the shelf for now. I can’t help but wonder what we were going to see regarding JayJay in book 2. Here’s hoping she does return at some point!
Listening to everything about this story including scrapped, cut, and unused storylines and characters that would have appeared had the series continued is like hearing a story or chara ters someone came up in their head if they ever did use them for something like a series. I feel like we all have a set of characters that stuck with us that we want to use to tell a story with, and Vivzie had that with these characters she created, whether they got changed or stayed the same
I've watched the short, and ever since then, I've been hoping for the full animated version of this story.
Also, I think that Zeezi (the Godzilla like overlord in Hazbin) got her design from Zoophobia. It's a lot different than most other character designs.
I understand why she stopped the project altogether I hope that she is willing to revisit Zoophobia in the future but if she doesn’t, I don’t blame her.

I'm only recently learning about Vivziepop's different stories and i personally love the different world building and and Vivzies drawing style but i would like to understand why people are so toxic cause it ultimately seems like its pointless and has no justification cause it ruins the experience of fans and content creators usually end up packing things in
on another note i can totally relate to the accent situation of the short I'm from Liverpool and have a scouse accent so when i hear someone from London putting on a scouse accent it also sounds very stereotypical while there are plenty of famous scousers such as Jason Isaacs and Stephen graham

Everyone already pointed out but watching you read through the comics really made me realize how overwhelming and rushed it all feels, because so many characters were added in such a short period of time and it just fucks up your attention span which makes it so you're not really able to focus on anyone. It just doesnt feel very nice to read despite the concept. I'd say it's a good concept with a flawed execution.
I honestly really like Zoophobia, its extremely unique and you can tell that Viv put so much years of love into these characters. It just screams Vivzie srsly I hope she gets back into it
I used to see bits and pieces of Zoophobia here and there but didn't know if was so chaotic and fun. that's really too bad.
I wouldn't call it "Failed Masterpiece" honestly it sounds more like a mix of random and edgy things that Vivzie liked.
It has its amateur charm, I'm not going to deny it, part of me likes the absurdly old Tumblr style but honestly, the plot was obviously not going anywhere, there were plenty of characters, worlds, etc, but most of it seemed disconnected and a bit inserted just because Vivzie wanted it and not because of a true intention to tell a story.
I honestly understand why Vivzie preferred to focus on Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss, even if they are shows that I have a lot of problems with, their plots are somewhat more focused, although Zoophobia has a charm, it didn't really aim at anything, it was mostly Vivzie throwing ideas without context to her drawings.
Honestly, Zoophobia was good for what it was made for, just a place for experience to be made and learned for Vivzie, I honestly think it had a bit too much going on but it was great for just practice and showcasing ocs
When I was on YT kids I saw this and this is how I fell in love with viv’s shows
Hopefully, with HH and HB fleshed out, she can have better focus if/when she returns to Zoophobia material
I don't like Zoophobia, it makes me feel overwhelmed with lots of vibrant and saturated colors popping everywhere because of the huge amount of characters, and most of the backgrounds are pretty simple with warm colors, which makes every character to stand out, but not in a pleasant way. The composition goes brr in every shot, and it feels like it tries so hard to introduce every character to the viewer, and consequently they feel like they are going to be important later on, just to not being actually important, it makes me wish this was more settled down.
i first found vivziepop on youtube doing speedpaints of her characters from zoophobia, and i followed her work all the way until hazbin hotel was in development. i enjoyed her unique artstyle especially in her webcomicss

I loved Zoophobia so much, and I followed it regularly, and I hope it returns fully but for now its been in hiatus limbo for so long it feels abandoned and Viv's other shows just lack IT for me.

My god they’re are so many characters!??! No wonder she wanted to rewrite everything, it seems like she had A LOT planned. Too much planned. Ever for me, she wanted to add so many more random characters. It seems like there was really no focus planned out.
Honestly I would love to see Viv pick this back up as a new show. Maybe slim down the cast or introduce them at a slower pace and Zoophobia could be an awesome series

I would counter that it sounds like ZP is just a thing that can get by on just character vignettes and goofs - like comic STRIPS in the style of the old Peanuts, or Popeye, or ESPECIALLY early Garfield strips, or like Hello Kitty and other Sanrio characters.
Not everything needs a plot or overarching story.

idk, Viv doesn't seem like she's gotten that much better at writing a story. Her current shows still have a lot of the same problems this did (cramming in too much stuff/characters all at once, starting with one plot, giving it barely any time, and then going right into another, ect)
And some new ones, like a lot of the hellverse characters having Daddy issues as thier main problem XD
At least her animation is pretty, i guess.

It’s not a failure if it never failed to begin with. All we can do is hope that viv didn’t forget about it and can finally make it happen. 👍
It really did feel like five different series all crammed together. Supernatural, sci-fi, romcom, sitcom, dromedy with as many plots as it has characters, and so so many characters.
I doubt we will ever see more from it at this point. Which is sad, and we know the trolls are to blame more than anything else.

Honestly, from what I've seen, issues and all, I genuinely would've preferred this to get greenlit and focused on over the Hellaverse. It just seems more "whimsical" than them, it's easier to get cozy with, and obviously, it has a lot of the same DNA anyway, being the beta version of Hazbin. It's like the cuter parts of Vivs modern work distilled into raw adorability.
The obvious difference is that Hazbin/Helluva are much more adult themed, whereas this is slightly more all ages with minimal swearing. However, I honestly don't like how crude and "adult" the Hellaverse is. I love it because of the awesome modernized Christian "Ethereal Eternity" type worldbuilding. (Obviously theres also music, character character and animation, but its vivziepop and the quality there is consistent.) Honestly it seems like a Hellsing ultimate abridged fan dub of itself half the time, where Zoophobia seems more like a fairytale that plays itself straight with only a fairly subtle adult joke every now and then, like Tenta's entire existence.
I think it has more potential, had it been given the same opportunities. I know it would need a lot of work to tighten its story up, and I know it would be completely unfair to force Vizie to dig up a project she made in highschool. Trust me, I'm an amateur writer myself, I know you can fall out of love with stories you once lived and breathed. I just personally wish things had turned out differently.
I think this coulds been a great story but with her being younger and more inexperienced back then it would be alot to keep track off. Anf with the large amount of different sub plots it feels like an amateur fic which is fine im sure alot of us were like but that but Im happy she kinda split these stories up with the hellaverse i hope she brings this back now that theres alot less content as the hellaverse has taken it.
