had this bike a good few months now, a year after this video, and it is a great bike!
Solid bike.
Is this good for big guys??? Long story short I had Cannondale trail 5 2020 crank and cassette kept breaking, broke more than I could ride.. would this be in the same category? Also have been looking at the surly krampus I heard they are good for big guys? Thanks in advance.
Do you press a button for the seat? Post to go up-and-down?
Just pulled the trigger on this at REI. Withe the member 10% credit, not to mention rei credit card 5% cash back, it seats in well under $1000. Couldn't find anything near this value after an exhaustive search. The versatility was a big seller for me as well. Went with the 29 option, and am planning on getting a set of 3" 27.5+ fats for when the conditions dictate. Love the fact that you can run both. The geometry worried me some, but when I realized the 68deg head tube was a 25% weighted value (should be more in the 66.5 range) that made up my mind. The QL rear gave me some pause, but the more i consider it, with the hefty tire suspension, and moderate trails i plan on riding, im guessing itll be fine... front thru axle is probably sufficient. Just needs a dropper post, tubeless, and one day, God willing, if I learn to ride properly a much better fork. Easy to keep this in the $1500 range even after those upgrades, for a legit setup that can also do some touring. At least... that's the plan.
Great buy, enjoy it!
Just pulled the samentrigger at REI today I'm super pumped about this bike comin home with me
Hey there, could you explain what you mean about the headtube angle being "25% weighted?" I'm very close to pulling the trigger on one of these but the listed HTA figure gives me pause. Thanks for any insight you can provide! :)
REI has these on sale for $749 right now, May 2023. At that price, you gotta get one. For what you get, it's a steal! It's a great all-around bike!
Wow that's a heck of a deal
They're $599 now
@@fgjcesar yep, til the 4th of July.
@@JamesthebikeguyIs it worth it to buy bikes at REI if you are looking up to 1k or a little more? Or is the Roscoe 6 better?
Just picked one up this week. I have great non technical trails nearby that don't need a dual suspension and I have to ride some road and dirt roads to get to them and this bike so far is perfect. Need just a little more time to give a better review but It didn't take me too long to dial it in they way I like it....
Congratulations on your new bike, have fun!
Very interesting, your situation sounds very similar to mine. I have some nice hills with wide, hard dirt roads with some loose gravel on top, and I need to ride about 4 miles on pavement to reach the trailhead. I'm probably going to buy the Salsa Rangefinder Deore 12-speed 29, which is very similar to your bike. I've been wondering what it's like on pavement. Any updated thoughts you can share now that you've had your bike for a year?
@@rkatrails Have you purchased the Rangefinder Deore 12 speed 29? I just bought the Deore 10 speed (almost like the one shown), but was thinking about trading it up to the Deore 12 speed with dropper and Air fork.
@@Kflash3782 Sorry, haven't purchased it yet.
@@rkatrails I just pulled the trigger on one yesterday at REI. I returned the 10 speed and ordered the 12 speed Rangefinder. Looking forward to riding it.
2022 Salsa Rangefinder Advent X or Trek Marlin 7, which would you buy if you had to pick one?
Just ordered the Rangefinder mainly for light trails and bike camping im a fan of as much storage as possible
Boy, MicroSHIFT hit a homerun with Advent. I have already used it on 2 project bikes. It is SUPER easy to set up -- even for a mechanically-inept Jewish lawyer like me -- and it is bomb-proof. Once it was dialed, it has literally never missed a shift.
It's great stuff
Nice bike! Very smartly speced with the Advent X and Tektro brakes instead of SX and Level. I know everything is more expansive now, but it pains me to see a $1,000+ bike with a basic coil fork.
Yeah the fork is really the only bummer
Pretty bike 🙂
Agreed!
Wait… fronts a thru axle and rears a quick release…? Why
Do any salsa bikes have non coil shocks
Most don't have coil shocks
Are those rims tubeless ready? I know the tires are not.
Yes, rims are. Tires aren't.
my local bike shop s selling one plus tax is 1700$ is that worth it? or is it too much?
just buy online its a lot cheaper
Its $1199 in Georgia
Just paid $1050 in Arkansas today. Price going up to $1199 I’m told.
The bike’s price was shared in a video - was that a mistake??
lol
Please take those reflectors off. 😂
So a coil fork at the $1000 price range ? That’s more $600 level
On sale for $599 at REI right now, 6/27/23.
Not really. The $1000 Trek Marlin 7 has a coil fork as does the $960 Cannondale Trail 5. The $900 Giant Talon 1 has an air fork, but some of the other components aren't as good as the Salsa. The Salsa has better brakes and nice 30mm rims compared to 21mm on the Talon. Talon is also QR front and rear.
This is not a review, you went over the specs sure, but that's all info I can find on the website. Where is a real review with actual opinions on how the bike rides?
What video did you watch? Literally no where do I claim this is a review of the bike. In fact I say that in the video we will go over the "features and designs" of the bike and then it's "actual weight"... so why be mad about something you were clearly told about within the first 15 seconds of the video?
Salsa means sauce in spanish .
👍
Nice bike,Suntour sucks.
Suntour makes some higher quality products, but their name gets tarnished by their low end forks which really do suck
This would have been a $500 walmart bime a couple of years ago
No doubt! Slap a boutique name on it and " voila"!!!
Can help but rofl at that statement. At no point would that have been the case
Not even close.
Hey, it's a $500 bike now at REI. LOL.
wow not really pretty looking bike comes from salsa
What don't you like about it.
@@Jamesthebikeguy the looks of the frame itself, other qbp sub brands making such an attractive looking bikes
@@mazditzo The frame's decent, but agree, not the best looking. Seems like it's a little too tall or something, can't put my finger on it. Now Rocky Mountain Fusions...those are nice looking frames.
