Just a thought about the planting of bamboo... it is considered a highly invasives specie, and can end up costing you TONS of $$ (thousands, tens of thousands sometimes) to remove it. It is not allowed in our town. Just to let you know. Be careful. One man had to replace his neighbor's foundation- it rooted under his house and began lifting it up!
@@LisaHoltDesign Yes- thank you for pointing this out! I so heart all you continue to do. Thank you. And I REALLY should have taken a moment prior to posting. You are simply the best and I am in awe. Thank you.
@@LisaHoltDesign Hi! In parts of California you cannot get home insurance if you haver bamboo of any kind, including clumping bamboo. Its considered a fire hazard. From Fire Safe Marin (where i live) Bamboo should be removed within 30 ‘ of structures or 10’ of roads and driveways according to the fire code adopted by Marin fire agencies. LOVE your channel. Warm regards,
For fire on my wooden apartment tiny balcony, I’m taking battery operated candles out on a tray in the evening tucked among flowering potted plants. The light flickers through the petals.
The scented plants were my favorite idea because it's so simple but I can see how it'll instantly change the vibe of a space. I'd love a video on bringing "80s rec rooms" into the current era or multi purpose rooms generally-- what can be combined, what shouldn't, and layout options that factor function and form.
Such amazing tips - we live in a tiny house at the beach and the extension outside of our tiny home is so important...also solar outdoor lights are an amazing addition especially where we live in the south of France where sunshine reigns and we wanna b environmentally friendly and keep the bills down 🥰
Lisa, I take away valuable information from every one of your posts that I can easily implement into my own scenario. And you do it with such fun and flair. Thanks
I have a friend that has a small terrace in Barcelona and OMG it’s so nice! I noticed the lights right away and as you say it completes the theme at dusk and night in the most perfect way. Spot on with your recommendations!
Great timing to straighten us out on these items. Love your eyeglasses frames. Good to know about the lighting options that are rechargeable, long-lasting LED decorative light sources. So pertinent that you mention that we don't want anything jarringly at odds with either the interior of our home from whence we can see the outdoor living space nor with the home's exterior. It is good that you've reminded us that fencing & coverings for privacy, including greenery added, often add to sound absorption. I think it is way too easy to forget that fragrance should be planned and doesn't just happen from nearby plants or the barbecue.
I went with the solar string bistro lights since I didn’t have an electric source. I have them for the patio area below my deck. They work great. That said, I only use them for show since I never use the space. Yes. I’m that shallow. First time seeing your video. Good suggestions. Keep up the good work.

Beautiful ideas, but some of us live in HOAs in the south (first time living in an HOA-not my choice) Not only are we restricted in what we can do even to our backyards but I can't keep anything clean with the amount of pollen that rains down on us. We just moved to Savannah from California and it's crazy the amount of pollen we get from the pine trees. I have a beautuful brass tray top table we use for a coffee table i just bought on f.b.marketplace , it was bought in Africa in 1970 and was broght back to the states by a global traveler! You are so right about fire pits and outdoor fireplaces in Florida! It’s difficult to really get the real benefit out of them. So many Florida folks opt for candles (battery-operated and otherwise) to provide some ambiance. And there are some excellent scented candles that can do double duty as lighting and fragrance (if you can enjoy scented candles).
Where can the battery lighting (Fat Boys!) be purchased? Retail or online. Genius. Also, Lisa, love the scent of jasmine. May get busy with a trellis to grow climbing variety. So nice. Thanks. Love your videos. And tell me about your eye glass frames, please. Brand?

Lisa, we have an enormous problem here in San Mateo County, CA. And I'm sure a lot of other areas have new rules about NO GAS FIREPLACES or even gas ranges (soon) in the kitchen or anywhere else in the home. This goes for all new construction and remodels. I have not seen a single electric fireplace that I like, regardless of the price. Even the most expensive ones (that require water/steam) look fake to me. My house is from 1907 and the decorating style is English Tudor/Storybook. So everything is antique looking - not modern in the least. What can I do now? I was planning on using a LOT of gas fireplaces throughout the home for ambiance and heating purposes. This is going to be more than a remodel - more like a complete rebuild. If you have any ideas, regarding realistic looking antique style fireplaces (that are not gas), I would certainly like to hear about them. Thanks in advance!
@@Kath-Erina Wood burning fireplaces would be my first choice, but they have been banned in our area for years. Only people who already have them can use them, and are fined heavily if used on a "spare the air" day. It seems that half the days in the year are now "spare the air" days. I have one wood burning fireplace in my house, but it's completely falling apart and can't be used as is. If rebuilding, the City makes people convert to electric fireplaces now.
@@kimmyz ah okay, yeah that sucks... In my country wood fireplaces are allowed but only with special filters in the chimney to filter out particles and co2. Is that something your city will be okay with maybe?
@@Kath-Erina Unfortunately, no wood burning is allowed - even with catalytic converters or whatever they are called. The only people who can use them are the people who already have wood burning fireplaces. And they are greatly discouraged from using them. I know that lots of people are allergic and it's bad to burn wood, coal, gas or anything when it comes to our fragile ozone layer. But so far, nobody has come up with anything that looks good when it comes to electric fireplaces (antique ones). Also, keep in mind that our homes are probably a lot closer together than yours (?) So having a wood burning fireplace right next door (here) might very well bother the next door neighbor. Another reason that wood burning fireplaces are no longer allowed is because it's nearly impossible to make the house air-tight and therefore energy efficient. Even with the flue closed, warm air can escape up the chimney.
Hey Lisa, what could we use for ambiance instead of a fire pit or fire place where it is just too hot most of the year to want to light a fire like for a tropical yard near sea level?
Can u use candles as ur fire source? Maybe some in glass jars of different heights on a tray of some sort. Or, a short wide candle in a bowl type vessel sitting on a coffee table or similar? That coukd even b ur fragrance too, if needed.
There’s lots of weatherproof options or covers if you need easy access to dry cushions. There’s also external boxes for safe storage of soft items if there’s a severe storm.
Still waiting on the EXTREME weather outdoor living spaces I've been asking about for 2 yrs now....Florida has heat & humidity that's off the charts for 6 months of the year and since everyone and their brother is moving there might be nice to finally entertain the idea.

Like she specifically said, only clumping bamboo, not running bamboo. Clumping bamboo is the safe choice. I know from first hand experience as well.
You want clumping, not running bamboo. You can also consider clumping bamboo in sealed containers but consider drainage when planning these.
