We use The Real Decoy shaker style decoy for motion. Runs on 1 D battery and we can use it for something like 30 hours before changing the battery. Very convenient and adds great motion.
Hey Joel! I just became a new hunter today! Me and my dad watch u all the time and love the vids. As I watch your videos I learn a lot from them and as a new hunter I really enjoy learning new things that I can use while hunting waterfowl. I left a subscribe to show my support. Keep up the amazing work and I will see u next time on surviving duck season!
I'm right there with you Joel. I've tried and will just about always try a new motion decoy that hits the market. With that being said over the years I have purchased and tossed a bunch of them away. The most dependable, most reliable, easiest to use is the Higdon Pulsator. By far the best water motion decoy we have at our club. The battery will last all weekend and hardly ever gives us an issue!
I love the Lifetime/Heyday decoys. The only downside for me is they fill with water when you are dragging them through the river, especially upstream. I love how light, durable and quiet they are. They move very well with just a little current too. I use the Lifetime do it yourself Texas rigs on all of my rigs. I started mixing in some black duck decoys in my mallards based on advice from Joel and a friend. If you can find anywhere that still has Lifetime branded decoys, you can get a good sale on them...Like Rogers does right now. I use Lucky Duck spinners and the Mojo backpack (49.99) for them. I get 4 spinners, wings, pole bases and spare parts per bag.
You have great content! Avian x is the best, hands down. Been running my floater mallards, full bodies, and gw for over 8 years, still look like day I bought them, I also put in slot bags. Their body shapes/colors also best IMO
Great content! I have flocked Dakotas and haven’t had any issues. I probably miss about 3 weekend a season. Out there Saturday and Sundays even some weekdays when I’m off early.
How much abuse have you put them through? Also is there any good way to wrap decoy cord around them and secure it for people who hike them in in a bag?
Thanks for the info Joel. I've been using mostly avian-x decoys the last few years because of the realistic design. The only complaints I have is it's difficult to attach a texas rig to the keel because the hole is small and in an odd spot. They are also the heaviest decoy I've used, so long walk in hunts limits the amount you want to take. A jerk rig is the most common motion decoy I use.
Great video! Thanks for the info. Those Atlas gloves look great. I use insulated rubber ones in late season and the restriction in dexterity is tough to deal with sometimes. I’d use them all season for the dexterity. Those would be great in early teal, we hunt some stinky water haha
Avian x for almost all my duck floaters. Tanglefree was the only cinnamon teal floater I could find though. Avian x decoys are super heavy. For hike in spots I get cheap decoys, cut both ends of the keel open and get rid of the sand inside. I tried Texas rigs for a couple years and went back to keel grabbers. I also use slotted bags for most of my decoys. I mostly hunt the river and the current give my decoys plenty of movement.
Bufflehead decoys, where I live where ever you see ducks you see buffleheads, it made a world of difference in the number of ducks I had pitching into the decoys once I added them to the spread
Second on this, they're fairly cheap, and look decent, but I have questions about the durability considering that some of their promo photos have clearly rubbed off paint in them.
@@fenrirunshackled4319 yeah but they’re also very transparent with their ads, they could’ve been abusing the hell out of them all year or they could’ve just been worn off quick but who knows
Love your honesty Joel. I’m no fan of fully flocked decoys. Not going to babysit my gear. Snow sticks to them horrible. They look great but not worth the money. All the fancy decoys are for one thing, to get you to buy them. All my duck decoys are painted flat black. Some are over forty years old some maybe older. Keep em coming and God Bless👍🏻🦆
We have a little motor enclosed in plastic and clips on the keel of the decoy powered by a battery and a little propeller and adjustable rudder it works good
Watching your video helped me to decide to get some Lifetime Mallard decoys for this coming season. I like the weight and the look. I could only afford 6 as they are expensive here in Canada, but that is a start. Plan to mix them in with my other decoys. Thanks for the review.
Thank you so much for the thorough review. I was really looking to pick up the flocked dakota packable this year but I might switch to the lifetime after seeing this. We're down to one Canada a dar during regular season here in VT. Hope the ducks are good!
Thanks for the video! I agree with most, but some is hard to follow with, because private vs public (aka your audience) hunt differently, since we don’t go out everyday.
I just bought some heyday(lifetime) decoys and sprayed them with lacquer to prevent the dirt stains. Idk if it will shy ducks away because of the shiny finish. Next season will be the tell-all result but the dirt shouldn’t stick.
Try higdon i love mine i have 3 dz battleship and 4dz of there magnum and 4dz of there standard been 3 season now and they still look damn near new and i hunt cold weather here in montana and hunt at least 80 days of the season
Hey Joel! Love your videos. Since you have ties with Mojo, any idea if they’re coming out with a new version of the Flock-A-Flicka? Absolutely love those things, they just break super easy. Seeing a spread from a distance and having a half dozen of them mixed in, looks incredibly lifelike.
I love and hate them at the same time. Joel, would love to get your thoughts on those as well. They look amazing when you have them out but they never last.
Started using Dakota and they look great but you have to baby them and I swapped to Avian X. I have ran every brand and there are no brand decoys even Close to Avian X!
Got a 6pk of black lifetime deeks for this season! Love them already but cant wait to see them in action, love lifetime rigs, i use the DIY kits, lifetime will be the ONLY rigs i use from now on. Looking at their jerk rigs. Do u have Any experience with the lifetime jerk rig??
I like you're Pintail decoys might order one I wish the world was in better shape I would like to hunt wood duck and Pintail our most colorful duck is the shoveller drake a real trophy bird u take care might get there one day
What do you recommend for a vest for your dog? I bought one of the first mojo pulsating decoys. It never worked! The plastic it was made of was brittle and fell apart. I saw other reviews that the pump rarely worked and the unit always fell over ? No more mojo products for me. Their CR dept just blew me off.
Any thoughts on MOJO RIPPLERS? I love those things, but why 4 AA batteries? Makes no sense, should all be 2 D batteries. Joel, any comments on batteries and other setups? I also love my gigs on pulsator, but lugging it back to charge every time gets so annoying. The hardwired version was terribly made. It broke almost instantly.
Wait so how deep does the water have to be for the duck trac dipper tail work in? I hunt around two and a half to three feet so would it work there? nvm I see you just said that
Idk why people buy Texas rigs, you can just make them yourself for super cheap with whatever weight you want and some tangle free cord. With a pair of snippers
+2 on the shitty quality of the full flocked ghg pintails in rogers they looked awesome after 3 hunts they looked like crap stored in there own bag and babyed will not buy again on the other hand the ff final approach mallards look really good after 1 season
What’s your favorite decoy or motion device?
I'm in WA and we have to use pull string as we aren't allowed to use battery powered.
Decoy Dancer is the way to go

Lifetime decoys. Too many of my friends enjoy shooting my decoys.
I would like to see you do a review of avian x decoys, their my favorite
flashback 2, yes it's expensive but it works great, can't get clogged with weeds, and is built like a tank!

Thank you for giving these updates on what worked and what didnt. Its very useful to new waterfowl hunters like me.
Glad they’re useful for you?

Remember duxtrac with the included float system will work in any deep water plus they are handmade in Grafton IL. And guaranteed..
Any places i can buy in Canada!???
The GhG non flocked is what I buy and they look insane I have only ever bought flocking on goose heads no matter what brand but painted GhG are great
Need to try Avian.

How much abuse have you put them through? Also is there any good way to wrap decoy cord around them and secure it for people who hike them in in a bag?
@@fenrirunshackled4319 Used them most of last year and they have held up well. Stuff the cords and weights inside of them.

Avian X beats them all. Surprised you haven’t used them.

LOVE these vids!! More of these vids PLEASE!!!
Love mtly orange insulated atlas gloves!
You sir are in a master class!
Thank you for a lot of great information.
I’ve (well actually my wife) already ordered several of the products.
I'm a new subscriber, love your show how do I find your current videos. New to tube too!

Glad I could help. In case you missed, they changed their name a couple months ago to "Heyday". Same people, and same product... just a new name.
@@SurvivingDuckSeason yes thanks for the heads up. They came with the new labels. Looking forward to more videos. The shot sting one is amazing.

I've heard bad things about them from nonsponsored reviews. You have to remeber that this guy is paid by them to say nice things about their products
My favorites this year are jerk rigs on pretty much any floating decoy. In oregon we can't have electronic decoys so jerk rigs are the way to go.
Hoping to see what you think of the blue bird waterfowl’s mojo cam. It turns a spinner into a splashing decoy with the wing motion.
Thanks for the video! I agree with most, but some is hard to follow with, because private vs public (aka your audience) hunt differently, since we don’t go out everyday.

I did the same. I thought about scotch guard spray afterwards. Well, i guess i’ll find out if shiney decoys work.
Try higdon i love mine i have 3 dz battleship and 4dz of there magnum and 4dz of there standard been 3 season now and they still look damn near new and i hunt cold weather here in montana and hunt at least 80 days of the season
same here
I’ve shot a lot of decoys by water squatting birds. I’m gonna keep doing it too 😊
No question about it Lifetime is the only Texas Rig rigging to use. 4oz for ducks, 6oz for goose floaters.

I’ve been begging my dad to book us a hunt at Cypress crossing next week

Do you ever think your pulsators spook ducks? Maybe more so on flat calm days or in wide open marshes.
I’d like to see more on duck trac, can’t find much about them

Great information
My favorite decoys are the ones my hunting bubby brings . I am tried of my decoys getting shot up ! I own enough maraca !
Any decoy i buy gets shipped to creekview decoys, get flocked then sent back to me. And let me tell you its some durable stuff!
Creekview Decoys 100%. Strongest flocking on the market! I use and abuse mine from @CreekviewDecoys and have him flock a dozen or more every year!
Wish I had your kind of money haha
The only thing I have besides just regular deeks I have Two Mojo`s with a transceiver so I can stop and start from my blind .
Mojo is my favorite

DEADLY DECOYS!
Higdon pulsator is my favorite but not so tough, easy to break but easy to fix. Been looking at the lucky duck pulsator but u said u had bad luck?
Where do I find or how do I find the list of products that you demo on this show.

No, I have not.
@@SurvivingDuckSeason okay, thank you!
Do you have to hard wire that duxtrac decoy?
Yes
My lifetime decoys turned pink ...I was pretty upset
Sadly the only thing I can use is a mojo BC we hunt in knee deep chest deep water some times
Duxtrac works in any deep water no limit..
Ohk sweet I’m going to save my money up this summer and buy one. Thx
Damn, all the water I hunt is too deep and you’re having problems with it being too shallow haha
I googled my name and found you you seem cool
Haha that’s awesome! There’s also a sports photographer in Australia with our same name👍🏻💪🏻👊🏻
Divebomb A Bomb rigs by far superior just FYI

A decoy is a decoy cheaper the better. Game winner from academy sports is as good as any
Once again TERRIFIC!!
