    Learn so much each video--even when it's not 'my' current need--for example, what other people might be facing in their day to day reminds me how vulnerable we all are--and being Kind is an option. Also, seeing KAFO, helps me to better analyze & devise language for my post-stroke AFO. I was touched here at the important distinctions made about being mindful of client's phases of adjustment to needing a device, period; then, to really assess the many variations in diagnosis, prognosis, lifestyle, location, etc.
    I'm still starry eyed seeing your videos that Anyone Else on Planet Earth recognizes & articulates the topics, +/or thinks creatively about Dr Obvious Things that have been driving me Insane. I live as an urban dweller Martian---with kind enough Earthlings, dictated to by insurance, in strangely separated Med/PT/Orthotic silo-ed offices---entirely detached from each other and zero connection to retail shoe stores. (A shoehorn?? A shoe size? A salesperson? ha ha ha ha) Honestly. What could possibly go wrong? Your vids are quiet, direct, informative, and convey the 'normalcy' of having adaptations. Thank you.

    Thank you for the insightful video ,
    I'm from India suffering from poliomeltis of lower limbs.
    I can walk wearing caliper, which I've using for more than 10 years.
    You have demonstrated number of calipers to custom fit the requirements.
    I'm not really sure I can afford it. If anything similar is available in India I would love to give a try

    Do KAFOs help the hips? I have ehlers danlos and have worn AFOs for 2 years. Since then my hips have gotten very unstable and i have subluxations with almost every step..

      I would say yes but indirectly. From my experience, when the foundation is stable (ankles and knees), the rest of the body benefits. ❤

      Hello! To better understand the pros and cons of any brace, we recommend you check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/0Xcm7t3lVxk/v-deo.html
      However, we recommend you work with your local practitioner to determine the best option for you. The answer to your question is based on your joint laxity that could only be determined by a local hands on professional.

      @MissionGait I'm getting bilateral kafos, never worn braces in my life. I talked to a few people who wear them as well and they said over time i will lose muscle as well and become quite dependent on needing to wear them and won't be able to walk with out them. I have to get them due to bad knock knees/medial and lateral instability innmy knees and ankles, knee hyperextension. Is it true I'll lose some muscle and get dependent on them to point I can't walk with out them

    Hello!
    I am an orthotics student and had recently heard of the term "follower joint" for a KAFO. Could you explain what a follower joint is and the purpose of that type of joint? Thank you so much!

    • @MissionGait
      @MissionGait  8 місяців тому

      Hi friend! Where did you hear that term? We are unfamiliar with it.

    • @dgetsitpopin96
      @dgetsitpopin96 8 місяців тому

      @@MissionGait hello! I was able to clarify this term with a clinician and essentially it is a joint that’s purpose is to doesn’t lock and essentially “follow” or produce the same sagittal motion as the opposing knee joint. The idea was brought up for a case with a very young pediatric patient who needed offset , locking knee joints, but to decrease the weight of the AFO, to use only one locking knee and the other knee would just function as free motion.
