- KABOOM! SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket booster dramatically EXPLODES after landing on a drone ship - marking the first landing failure since 2021. After four years without an incident, SpaceX engineers had good reason to be confident about a routine launch this week.
But that confidence was literally blown out of the water this morning after a Falcon 9 rocket booster dramatically exploded shortly after landing.
Booster 1062 had just broken the record for the most consecutive launches without failure when it failed to touch down a SpaceX drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean.
A shocking video captured the moment the booster suddenly tipped over and was engulfed in a ball of purple flames.
This marks the first time since 2021 that a SpaceX booster stage has failed to land after taking its payload into orbit.

The Falcon 9 booster successfully deployed 21 Starlink satellites before it exploded. SpaceX had been planning a second Starlink launch from California just hours later. But after the booster incident, the company decided to stand down on the second launch in order to assess the situation in Florida. No word yet on how the droneship - named A Shortfall of Gravitas - fared after the incident.
I have a question ---- Is SpaceX getting their parts from India ?
Absolutely jaw-dropping! Just when you thought SpaceX had it all figured out, BOOM-reality check in the most explosive way possible!
What this says to me is the the affected landing leg may have separated from the booster at its hinge point on the base at landing.
@@PointOrViewHard to tell difference between cause & effect. That last break was the final coup de grace- but the engine flames had never gone out, with a fire that spread over towards that landing leg. Assuming that SpaceX has more deck camera angles than they typically show. - Dave Huntsman
It is successful, as lots of data and information have been gathered from the explosion.
They have it figured out better than Boeing.
Thing about SpaceX: they are, without question, the single best ‘learning organization’ in the space field, government or corporate. -bar none. - Dave Huntsman
No doubt.
So what it exploded .....it served well multiple times sending payload to the space. Saved hundreds if not billions of $. Space X is the GOAT.
yet, it's still like loosing one of your drones!
Oh man you can never take anything for granted in rocketry. The law of averages always catches up.
Talk about a heart-stopping moment! SpaceX's winning streak just went up in purple flames-history made, but not in the way anyone expected!
Yeah, the booster didn't make it. The record holder is no more at 23 total flights.
It is successful, as lots of data and information have been gathered from the explosion.
@@cuteandfunnyearthlings2863 Thank you...mos people read headlines and don't understand that science. It took NASA 35 years to land on the moon, even after the disaster of Gemini and Apollo 13.And then there was the Challenger. But now it will be political because theleft wing press who hattes Elon, will trash this terribly.
That sucks. Can't four years of flawless landings, and then THIS-what a dramatic and fiery end for Booster 1062!
If you look closely, you can see that the strut is actually broken into two parts, with each piece falling separately. Typically, I would expect a strut to bend or buckle rather than break apart so clearly.
It is successful, as lots of data and information have been gathered from the explosion.
Incorrect. The engine did not explode. Apparently a hydraulic circuit for one of the landing legs burst and the leak created a fire and allowed the leg to collapse laying the booster on its side and off the barge.
Mishaps happen! Space X will figure it out!
Here too, Murphy reaffirms his law: "Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong."
Sigh! Hope this law doesn’t apply too often. :)
especially in politics...
Well they say you can’t win them all there is always that one outlier
Sad but true.
It is successful, as lots of data and information have been gathered from the explosion.
notice the engine did not cut off but continued burning until EXPL
Sometimes things like this need to happen to learn something new for future reliability, even though they're already excellent at rocket technology.
It doesn't look like the legs gave way, so what caused it?
Why are they using 2 year footage?
did they use any parts from india?
Very misleading thumbnail.
A question ...
Can we trust that the 2 stranded astronauts will be able to return safely to earth next year. Or postpone again ?😮
Boeing will now give money to the Democrats to save Nasa's arse.
Seems the devil is visiting American space organisations. 😊.
Id rather call it a blessing because they learn new things for improvement.
@@tluangasailo3663 And, no fatalities or injuries!
It's Israel, No one else.

The falcon 9 is not a very reliable rocket due to design fault just like the Starliner. Landing with explosion and tipping over as a result is an indication of a serious design error. The probability of disaster with the falcon 9 is just too high to dismiss it as an “accident”.
You said the opposite duh, Falcon9 had 242 launched for the past 3 years and only one failure, by far most reliable rocket of 21st century
@@tluangasailo3663 not really, one disaster in 242 launches is not considered reliable if the falcon 9 is to be a commercial rocket.
Not very reliable? 😂 it was a booster on a drone ship that malfunctioned, zero casualties, maybe they know now that at 200 launches and landings they need to replace said booster which will have paid for itself many times over, or would you rather spaceX litter space with them?
@@DrNat1 hahaha a booster is a rocket that provide the power to bring up the payload, Dude. If the payload was an astronaut he would be blown up to pieces. If spaceX designs a rocket waiting to explode then it becomes a flying death trap for astronauts. You are definitely not an engineer, are you, Dude?!
@@philiptan2051 I think you need to rethink what you are actually saying, as you are not making sense 👍🏼 the booster failed its landing, nothing to do with the payload ya gret twerp, you definitely still live at home in your mums basement 👍🏼
Lol incompetent SpaceX

When were you laid off at Boeing?
