I have been helping people choose Medicare plans for eleven years. I hear so many false advertisements and false representations of the programs that it makes my skin crawl. However, this is not the case here. I listened to the entire video and did not hear one piece of misinformation in this presentation. I even bookmarked it to share with future clients. Great job, Marvin and crew!
Since ur experienced….what’s the best & economical? I have been on Medicare for a little bit but have forgotten and I have been Humana this year. I’ve had diverticulitis before my enrollment to Humana but had a flare up in August. So can I obtain the supplement G? TY
@@CountryTenn1365 There really isn't a one-sized-shoe-fits-all for Medicare. I don't think it is fair to use words like "best" because what works best for my scenario, may be different for your scenario, which is then different for your neighbor, friend or relative. My advice is to reach out to an experienced Medicare agent and do a full "NEADS" review (not a typo, it's an acronym reminding us to focus on your needs). A lot of people believe that it will cost you more to use a Medicare specialist, but most of don't charge any consultation fees. The plans pay us so you don't have to, and you pay the same whether you go direct with the plan or go through us. In fact, we save our clients thousands by helping them avoid penalties, errors, and annual reviews to help with their Part D decisions. Medicare is very complex, and very confusing. There is a lot of bad information out there. (Not from these guys!) It is very easy to make enrollment mistakes. Like Medicare School, a good local agent can help you avoid these mistakes and find the Medicare solution that is best suited for you. On a side note, I enrolled my own mother into the AARP Medicare Supplement Plan G. 😉 But please don't self enroll! Use a local specialist. We are worth our weight in gold!

Plan N starts at $215 per month in NYC. I plan to use my retirement medical account for all the copays. I invested the money in an Index 500 mutual fund during the bull market.😂 That’s my game plan.
Very informative. You have clearly articulated the reasons for each plan. I read in Forbes that the majority of the people invariably choose the medigap plan rather than the advantage plan if they could afford it but the only reason mentioned was no pre-authorization and no network of doctors to worry about. Thank you very much for taking the time out to make such an extremely concise presentation
I read that original vs MA is like 50/50 (signups) How can this be true? What are people thinking? They are being misled by all the terrible commercials pushing medicare advantage. Its a travesty. You have to research plans yourself. Listen to this man! It couldnt be more clearly stated.

Very interesting! I chose a Plan N, as I rarely visit my doctor. I did read that the premium increases for Plan G were usually faster than Plan N, as G is the guaranteed-issue plan, so there are more sick people in that group. The pool of Plan N members tends to be healthier, so less of a premium increase.
@@MedicareSchool But let's not forget the trial-right period. I was on Advantage for my first 11 months of Medicare(just to get all the freebies and some free dental stuff done), then switched to Medigap N, with no underwriting needed.
@@youngtimer964 I've had annual increases on my Plan N, but only a few dollars, each renewal. Unless you are always at your doctor's office, Plan N makes more sense for most Seniors.
You seem to be pushing plan G. Yes all supplement plans are guarantee issue for 6 months from BD but that’s it. Plan N is no longer guarantee issue after that time frame. Plan G takes it all on and Definitely headed for higher premiums and increases. The state of Florida is one of the highest priced medigap states and plan G runs $60 to $80 more a month than plan N making plan N a much better value. For a 65 year old female Plan N like $160 vs $220 plan G at least a month. Also yearly premium increases much more likely to be less with plan N. No brainer in south Florida which is the best choice for a fairly healthy individual. One would have to see 30/40 specialists yearly to make plan G a better choice than N. And excess charges are basically unheard of as 98% of physicians accept Medicare assignment. So if plan G is only say $10 or $20 more a month in some states then by all means go for G. But when it’s $60 to $80’more a month plan N the better choice for many in south Florida.
This guy khows what he is talking about. Having worked in this market with hundreds of clients I can tell you that the misinformation from some sources leaves much to be desired. I would like to commend Marvin for putting together his videos to help those who are so bombarded and confused with information that is not always transparent. Thanks Marvin for all the good you do for people. If more were like you, the CTMs (complaints to medicare) would not be a problem.
I have a FB group for ppl that are older and although it's not the reason for the group, questions about Medicare supplements come up CONSTANTLY!!! This is a really great explanation!!
Very useful information! I enjoy the straightforward factual style of education. I am turning 64 January 2024 and in the process of learning everything I can about medicare and social security. Whew - what a steep learning curve! So easy for the average person to make a mistake that they will have to live with for the rest of their lives. In my personal opinion, the choices about Medicare are simpler than choosing when to start getting SS benefits. I'm sure I will take a G plan because I have several health issues that could become very expensive in the future. Presently, I enjoy good overall health and would like to begin working part time and collect possibly at 64 just to maintain my current monthly income, but have more personal free time. That's what I'm leaning towards, but things can change as I learn more. Thank you so much for your most helpful videos!!
I am shocked that plan N is booked so infrequently! I have had it for 4 years and I think it’s a great value. But if you go to the doctor often, better get G.
Many people that choose the G over the N are thinking about the 15 percent access charges and if something major happens like cancer that can become a risk factor.
Cancer probably has nothing to do with excess charges. 98% of physicians accept Medicare assignment including oncologists. It’s big shot psychiatrists that may charge them but that’s about it. Insurance brokers scare people with this excess charge stuff which is basically unheard of. But the higher the premium the higher the commission to the broker.
@@maryculbertson7349 I like plan N also. Gives great coverage just like G. No co pay for physical therapy. Just PCP and specialist. Covers 100% in patient hospital. ER visit $50 co pay, waived if admitted. Big deal. And excess charges unheard of. In south Florida best choice for many!! 👍👍👍
I thought the same thing... but some folks can't pay anything without destrying their "bank accounts" considering that most people have little to no savings... sad state of affairs.

Where the Advantage plans do become a better choice is for those seniors that are just above the cut line in income that they cannot get the "Medicaid" additional help but yet they really own nothing, have few or no assets and they really cannot afford to pay out the extra premiums for supplemental and RX plans and still keep housing or consider eating on a regular basis. Those types are the ones in the grey area trying to survive and although I do not condone this if they have nothing and no income other than SS then the part of the bills they owe really the hospitals know are uncollectable and just write off that portion for a tax write off . I really do not feel sorry for the medical providers though as when you get a statement showing what the hospital, lab or doctors office charged for a service and then the amount the insurance actually paid them while your portion is still 0 then you can see how bad a cash without insurance customer is being screwed by them. Another thing is buy a prescription from an out of country pharmacy, receive the same brand and dosage medication and when you can buy such medication out of the country for a total cost for 15% of what your CO-PAY is when using insurance and buying it through normal channels within this country then again you can see just how bad we are being screwed by the pharmaceutical and Insurance companies in the prices being paid by us the consumers. Healthcare in the country is nothing except a cash cow and all about the dollars!
Marvin, another very well done, and informative video. However, I'm very surprised at the big difference between the number of G & N enrollees. I'm curious if this reflects the wealth of those clients and their financial ability to prioritize plan simplicity over long-term value. For me, Plan N is currently $50/mo cheaper than G and has shown to have a better rate stability than G. I'll gladly deal with the copay & potential excess charges "hassle" to save $600/yr and likely even more going forward.
It varies how much less it can be in different areas. In many areas it's around $20 or less difference. When thinking long term, many consider the fact that if something major happens, like Cancer, the risk of having 15% with no limit to your Out Of Pocket cost, makes the Plan G the more popular option. With more people going with thr G plan, it actually has more rate stability overall.
@@MedicareSchool You bring up some interesting points. However, couldn't I purchase a Cancer policy for less than the $50 premium cost difference? Also, while G currently has more enrollees than N, doesn't it tend to attract people that need (or feel they will need) more medical care than Plan N? And isn't Plan G a Guaranteed Issue Rights plan whereas N is not? Wouldn't that also make the N enrollee pool generally healthier and help keep it's rates more stable?
You could, that's up to you, but the 15% could apply to other major health issues that could come up besides Cancer. Also, in many areas the rate difference is much lower. With so many people in the G plan pool, more premiums going in, I believe it's more stable.
@@MedicareSchool $10/20 a month more for G then yes. $60/80 more a month no. N much better choice for most. And not sure why you keep focusing on cancer and excess charges. Chemotherapy has no excess charge and oncologists accept Medicare assignment. 98% of all physicians whatever specialty in the USA accept Medicare assignment. That’s a fact.

I'm on Plan F and I use the shit out of it for preventive care. I go where I want, whenever I want. My mother-in-law had hip surgery and spent 45 days in a skilled nursing facility at the Carlsbad, CA beach, then had a month of in-home therapy. Not one red cent billed to her under her Plan F. Plan G is the next best thing, I believe.
@@bennym1956 I believe that Plan G (at least one of the flavors of G) amounts to the same thing. You pay the Medicare deductible but the premium is about $30/month cheaper, essentially a wash. Same coverage after the deductible.
I have a few years until 65. I will be retiring from GA shbp. They only offer MA plans with Anthem or UHC. If you do not elect the coverage at 65 you cannot rejoin shbp MA. Some teachers have had issues (especially with Mayo) and some say its great. It will be a difficult decision when the time comes but I have enough experience as an RN to understand the health implications of aging. It shouldn't be so difficult. We need to get what Congress gets.. everyone in this country. Period.
One part of Medicap plans that I did not hear you mention is that it goes up 10-22% a year after the first year! When I signed onto my plan N when I started on Medicare, it was under $90 a month. Now at age 74 it is $190/mo! Good plan, but increases are HUGE!
This is the best Medicare plan video I’ve watched! Thank you for explaining everything so thoroughly and easy to understand. Your energy and enthusiasm is amazing!
In states that allow excess 15 percent, it's horrible pricing for premiums with supplemental companies. Plus, if you live in a bad zip code area, the premium goes even higher for G plan. In 2022, I was paying every month $165.00 premium for my G plan. When I first got this plan, I was paying $80.00 in 2018. I didn't wait for the increase for 2023, and went to the N plan, that cost $102.00 a month. I researched doctors in my area who did not charge EXCESS. And my co pay, is only when I see my doctor and or someone else.

You didn’t mention that plan G is a guaranteed issue plan which makes it more likely to have big monthly and deductible increases. Very few mds charge excess fees. For me it will be plan N. Thoughts?
It seems to me that you lean towards G when promoting options. Would that have anything to do with a larger commission? My understanding is that the cost of G is increasing annually faster than N. Am I correct? And the part Ds are the same.
No it would not. There's no difference in compensation that agents receive between the Supplement letter plans when we help people. No, Plan G has stable rates because of so many people in the pool, more premiums coming in to offset claims. Plan G has less risk for our clients. 15% Excess charges on something major like Cancer for example, makes the small premium difference between N and G, not worth it to go with N. In some areas that can vary and rules are different in some States so in s9me cases N can make sense.
You are correct. Plan G pays the highest commission and Plan G is experiencing the highest rate increases. Plan N Excess Charges are so rare they are a non issue.

Note that there ARE cases of pre-authorization (or at least confirming coverage with Medicare) with Plan G. My wife has yearly physicals and last year her costs for this was not covered. Why? Because her doctor scheduled it a few weeks too early. Medicare would not cover two physicals within a 12 month period.
Thar would be a confirmation/ verification of coverage, not a prior auth. Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) covers a “Welcome to Medicare” preventive visit once within the first 12 months you have Part B. You pay nothing for the visit if your doctor or other health care provider accepts assignment. The Part B deductible doesn’t apply. Correct, Your first yearly “Wellness” visit can’t take place within 12 months of your Part B enrollment or your “Welcome to Medicare” preventive visit. However, you don’t need to have had a “Welcome to Medicare” preventive visit to qualify for a yearly “Wellness” visit.
Medicare doesn't cover physicals, only next to worthless "wellness" checks. They are mainly, "Draw a picture of a clock reading 10 minutes to 2!" and remembering five words while they distract you. Checking for dementia. Also, a quick eye test (even though Medicare doesn't cover vision!) If you so much as say that your baby finger hurts, it becomes a diagnostic and your deductible kicks in!
Thanks Marvin, for keeping people educated. Looks like we are with the herd. Plan G + gap coverage. So far it has been great. Way cheaper than the pre-Medicare when we had to buy our own coverage because we were a small employer. We can use any doctor in any healthcare system that take Medicare, which is almost all. Out-of-pocket has been right in the middle of Marvin's estmates. So glad we did not go with any of the dozens of Medicare Advantage companies and Healthcare groups that contacted us.
Why no mention of G-HD? I have it primarily because of the incentive to stay healthy to avoid medical costs and knowing what the max out-of-pocket cost would be. The medical industry can't make money from healthy people.

I agree. I have an N plan. I think the reason that so many people choose an MAPD plan is because they don’t want to pay a monthly premium. In my opinion, people who do this are not considering their potential healthcare needs later on. Unless your financial situation is such that you cannot afford the Plan N or high deductible G plan, most people should choose a Medigap plan rather than a MAPD plan. Exceptions would be those people who had government or military careers or people who live in large metro areas where there may be some MAPD options that are superior to the typical MAPD plan.

Agree with your surprise Ken that Plan N is not in the #2 position. I think this is because people are not being fully educated about Plan N and are being steered more toward Plan G by many insurance agencies. My opinion.

I’m 66, and still working. So I did have to apply for the A plan. But I’m still on my employers healthcare insurance, so I don’t need to get the B plan yet? My question is does the six month For the Plan G apply to me? Or do I have six months when I start the B plan?
Good info as always. When I signed up late last year I narrowed in down to the N or G plan. I chose the G just due to the fact the supplemental premium I would be paying was just a very little, very minimal more than the 'N' plan premium from the same provider; it just made sense to go with the 'G' plan. The big 'disadvantage' to an 'Advantage' plan was the yearly reset on their deductibles. If I was to be getting treatment for a condition that spanned two calendar years I could be stuck with sizable deductibles for both those years in a short period of time (December -January).
With Plan G, you would only be responsible for the Annusl deductible (this year just $226) then have 100% Medical & Hospital coverage for that year. Very Comprehensive coverage.

But if you go to the doctor or urgent care you have to pay the copay. And the possible extra 15%. For peace of mind I'd rather pay a couple hundred more a year.
@@belle42 Fair point but the copay is NO MORE than $20 each time, so $80 to $100 a year vs $200 more a year, and as someone else mentioned plan N likely to attract healthier people and see lower premium increases. Also keep in mind that the price difference depends a lot on where you live so you have to do the math. I wanted a policy that is less likely to skyrocket in price as I age, fingers crossed on that. Excess charges are rare and you can easily prevent them by checking if the provider accepts medicare assignment.
I've watched a number of your videos, among others, and I don't know where you get these premium figures from, but... I live in Broward County, FL and AARP UnitedHealthcare for 2023 is asking for $234.14/mo. for Plan G; not to mention the monthly Medicare premium, and the Part D drug plan with it's premium and drug plans. I'm looking at $425-$450/mo. Although I'm turning 65 in February 2024, I'll be nearly 2 years short of full retirement age, and was not planning on taking an SSA check, just yet. I am approaching my Medicare decision point, and am a military retiree who will be in Tricare for life. It seems like the decision for my situation will be between the MA-only plan or the very popular Medigap G plan, but without the additional Rx plan needed, as Tricare for life will cover that. The trade-offs appears to be: If the lack of pre-authorization worth paying the extra $125/month? The once a year part be deductible is pretty inconsequential in the grand scheme of things. Having been at the wrong end of pre-auth while on Tricare Prime a few times, it can occasionally be a nightmare.

Currently, my wife has the following 2023 Medicare costs: Plan B Medicare monthly premium = $164.90, Plan G monthly premium = $92, Plan D monthly premium = $10.70, and $15 copays on Tier 1 medications with a 90-day supply.

That’s my game plan.
Very informative. You have clearly articulated the reasons for each plan. I read in Forbes that the majority of the people invariably choose the medigap plan rather than the advantage plan if they could afford it but the only reason mentioned was no pre-authorization and no network of doctors to worry about.

We have plan F.
@vallang4832 Does plan F cover the Part B premium and Part B deductible?
Pray we can keep what we have!
All Supplemental plans are guaranteed issue for 6 month from your B date.
@@MedicareSchool But let's not forget the trial-right period. I was on Advantage for my first 11 months of Medicare(just to get all the freebies and some free dental stuff done), then switched to Medigap N, with no underwriting needed.
I’ve had N for 3 years with no increase. Wife has G and had increased every year.
Also yearly premium increases much more likely to be less with plan
I have plan F and will keep it as long as I can afford it. Advantage advantages NO one but the insurance company.
I have this plan. Best plan ever!!!

You're very welcome. Glad it's helpful!
@@maryculbertson7349
I like plan N also.
It's a great value as long as you never get sick.
Arizona G Plan monthly went from $185 per month to $209 per month starting in June 2024.

@@MedicareSchool
$10/20 a month more for G then yes.
@@christinedaley55802% of doctors don't.

Agents do not receive different compensation between Supplement companies or letter plans. So again, no difference.

AWESOME presentation. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks Marvin,for keeping people educated.
My pleasure! Thank you for your feedback.
Why no mention of G-HD?
I have it primarily because of the incentive to stay healthy to avoid medical costs and knowing what the max out-of-pocket cost would be.
The medical industry can't make money from healthy people.
What a great video explaining most of the plans. You didn't go over Plan D. Would you go into detail about it?
Thanks
What are the 4 States that do not require underwriting for the G plan?
CT, MA, ME, and NY do not require underwriting.
Outstanding advice. Vital for any Snr. ✌👏👏👏👏👏
Thank you for watching
I’ve got G and ain’t letting go, just got on and lovin it. Have fun with any advantage plan. It’s gonna get you later cause we all get sicker 🤕

I agree - same for plan N (Just watch 5-10 years down the road with plan N) Don’t get stuck in a plan one cannot get out of)
Thank you so much for your videos, they've really helped me. I'll be hitting my FRA January 1 2024 and I feel good about the decisions I've made on the advice you've given. I'm in fair health so I have a good supplement plan in place with vision, hearing and dental now which is something I didn't have before. I've been bombarded with relentless Medicare marketing calls every day. Do they ever stop?
Thank you for watching.
Surprised that the MAPD plans came in ahead of the N plan, interested and thanks Marvin for the info.
Always very informative.
Ken

@@MaryBethMcCoy I am a Army veteran but think the same basics will be in place. Hmo or ppo and good for your area as well as the max out of pocket. Along with copays. Still trying to get through my head why va drug coverage is credible but va health care isn't for Medicare. N is looking good.
Agree with your surprise Ken that Plan N is not in the #2 position. I think this is because people are not being fully educated about Plan N and are being steered more toward Plan G by many insurance agencies. My opinion.
@@kenpoulin6672 Careful with VA pharmacy... They only fill VA prescriptions. If an outside doctor prescribes something, to get the VA to fill it, you have to get a VA doctor to agree with your diagnosis and re-write the prescription.
Great videos, I have learned a lot in just a week of watching them. Thank you. How does one start a career in Medicare sales? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you, helping to educate people is a great way to begin.
I’m 66, and still working. So I did have to apply for the A plan. But I’m still on my employers healthcare insurance, so I don’t need to get the B plan yet? My question is does the six month For the Plan G apply to me? Or do I have six months when I start the B plan?
Your videos are the best! Thank you.
We are happy we can help!

Does N replace original MCR?
No it would supplement your Medicare, so Medicare will take care of 80% and Plan N will follow up on the following 20% after the deductible is met. If you need any assistance you can reach us at 800-864-8890.

What's max out of pocket for G plan
There isn’t one. You have to pay your Plan G monthly premium and that will vary based on what zip code you live in. Then, you also pay the Medicare Part B monthly premium and annual deductible.
Correct! And the annual deductible in 2023 is $226
I"m still confused!!!!! I have Medicare A and B, I also have Military Tri-Care, Do I need a Avantage coverage?

I Guess it all comes down to what each plan (G or N) cost in my area and how good is the MAPD plans are in my area to even consider????
Yes, all good things to keep in mind when deciding what coverage you would like. We can help navigate and assist when it's time. You can contact our office at 1-800-864-8890.
I like Plan N, not many problems, so with the lower premium it's saving me money.
For some people, it makes sense if you're in a state that doesn't allow access charges. In most states, the 15% charges is an area of risk if something major happens, for example, cancer.

@@sooner_born2256
(That’s for now)
I've watched a number of your videos, among others, and I don't know where you get these premium figures from, but...
With so many on the Left pushing for Medicare-4-All, I'd be happy with with better coverage for Seniors, because what this looks like is Highway Robbery.

it is when you only get about 1200 or less SS a month and there are numerous ppl in this situation.

Interestingly, one prescription is for double the dosage. This requires us to cut the pills in half, but the 90-day copay is zero rather than $15.
