@@Destiny-vg9bx Gosh, thanks for asking. In my 20s, I couldn't get a date to save my life. I was still in school, and unsure about the future of my career. And I was a lot more foolish than I am now, and that foolishness caused me a lot of emotional pain. I don't think it is a stretch to say that young people are naturally insecure, and I definitely was. Now, I have been a pastor of a Baptist church on an Indian reservation for the past ten years. I am a teacher of Lakota language at our local Christian school, as well as its chaplain. I am married, to an AMAZING woman. I am respected by most of the people I know, and some of them even come to me seeking advice. I have goals, for sure, and I'm definitely not done living yet. But I can honestly say that I'm happy with my life. In my 20's, I couldn't say that.
@@benfarrar741 thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I’ll turn 20 this year and my life is already plagued by fear and insecurity. Im doing as much work in therapy as I can, hoping it will go away. It’s amazing how your life turned out, and I’m happy that you’re happy. That gives me a lot to look forward to. Maybe I’ll find my purpose and ultimately peace
@@Destiny-vg9bx I hope that your therapy helps, Destiny. If I might venture a little advice, speaking as an older person: The problems that threaten to rip your sanity apart in the present will seem a lot smaller in the future. Time and pain have the cumulative effect of giving you a lot of perspective. I say this to give you hope: it gets better. It does. Make the most of every day. While you are young, embrace the difficult tasks that seem unpleasant or boring, but that you know are good for you. Develop your spirit, your mind, and your body. Concentrate your efforts on becoming the best version of yourself you can possibly be. In doing so, you will be making your future life better. You will literally be “doing yourself a favor”. Your future self can’t thank you for it, but they’ll want to! Finally, I don’t know your spiritual belief, but I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t important. Everything in this world is in the process of dying, or wearing out, or falling apart. You could spend your whole life chasing happiness, only to find that it doesn’t last. But the joys of Heaven, and the riches that exist there, will never go away or wear out, and can never be stolen. If you secure eternal life and eternal joys while you are still on earth, you will be very wise. I recommend that you begin by reading the Gospel of Matthew. It changed my life forever. I’m glad you reached out to me. It is so rare that I get to have a thoughtful conversation in a UA-cam comment! You seem like a delightful person, and I hope your future self is even happier than I am.
I agree with Benfarrar! (What an amazing turn of events, too!) My 20s were all insecurity, anxiety, and clinical depression. On and off therapy throughout finally got me thru the veil of the the worst of mental health to managing in my 30s and now I'm learning new things about myself, while also recovering from burnout. I'm on the cusp of 40 and going thru another life transition, and that's the thing - life keeps changing, so do we, it's hard, but we grow.
Just turned 40 last week. Went to a women’s conference and was mortified it didn’t end until after 10pm. I asked someone if they were trying to kill us! 🤣
I could handle it all like a trooper in my early to mid 40s, but in my mid 50s, I find I have to set an alarm to wake up 20 minutes before midnight on new years eve to do the toast. This year, I couldn't wake hubby at all. Soon we'll do it in the afternoon and be done with it.
Kim, how do you do that? That was totally me in my 20's, $20 for drinking, $2 to live on for the week, sleep on a floor, devastated by a friend hurting my feelings. Now tight budget, don't care what friend said, and a total pillow system. You're hilarious, talented, and so relatable. Thank you!!!!
I do the chores for me because I like a clean house. My wife doesn’t seem to care either way. Which is great, because I can let things slide a little if I’m not feeling it that day. Anyways, yeah 20’s aren’t that great, little wisdom, little money.
One thing that always gets me (now that I'm older) is when I get aches and pains in places I never got them before. And having certain parts of my body make noises when I move.
Me, in my 20's: I'll never be like my Mom when I get older. Me, in my 40's, in a tough situation: What would Mom do? Me, in my 60's: How did Mom do it?
Okay, I really appreciated Kim ending it by saying she loved her forties and wouldn't go back. So often everyone says to enjoy your youth because it only goes downhill but no matter what your going to get older, so your left dreading life
The fear of getting old actually causes people to stop enjoying life until they get old and they realize it's actually not as bad as they expected and they end up enjoying life again. (This is a real phenomenon. Look it up if you don't believe me.) If you just stop fearing getting older, life is a lot more consistently awesome.
You nailed this whole production on every level, from my 53 yr old perspective. In bed by 8-9 pm and up at 3-4 am.....for the day. Those precious 6 hours are often filled with night sweats, pee breaks and heartburn. I laughed out loud, nodded in agreement and said “ yup, accurate!” Throughout the entire video. So relatable! Nice job Kim. You look freaking amazing by the way. If only we all aged as beautifully. Love this channel.
Your 40’s are great. Wait for the 50’s. They seriously rock. And I’m totally with you on the pillow system. I even have wedges and bolsters to help keep my body from experiencing gravity.
I just watched this for maybe the 18th time. 😄 I must agree about the 50s; every decade is better than the ones before. They all had their good points, but the _freedom_ of this decade is delicious! I’m wrapping up the 50s (59 in April) and looking forward to my 60s.
I never understood my parents needing naps back in the 80s and 90s. They seemed so old and weird to go to sleep in the middle of the day. But now that I'm over 40, I get it.
Don’t know if anyone else is experiencing this but the need for glasses to read everything I pick up now reminds me of my mother holding everything at arms length trying to read it and then handing it to me and saying read this for me 😂
My husbands white new balance sneakers fell apart and I convinced him to buy different looking shoes because white new balance are such a turn off for me. :D
I admit that I miss sleeping for more than 5 or 6 hours, waking up actually feeling well rested, being able to remember what it was I needed from the room I just went to, and it wasn't a big deal to bend over and pick something up. 😄
Well people say that but I think the REASONS for the lack of sleep changes - in our 20s it's just studying and partying; think back, (if you can/dare 😉)
What i found great about 30s and now 40s is that I no longer care so much what people think about how I look or what I'm wearing. I can go out without makeup and hair in a bun and I'm not worried who will see me that way
I’m in my late 20’s and already feel this way. I’m genuinely worried that by 40, I will be walking around naked, arguing with the police officer that tries to ticket me for indecent exposure.
It might be a personal preference, I didnt care a whole lot once I was out of University but I care less about my clothes because minimalism, but it does have to fit right and I still love coloring my hair different colors. 😹
@Just Peachy definitely all of this. I never smoked. I hardly wore make-up and always took care of my skin. I'm turning 40 in May and people still think I look in my early 30s. Keep your skin nice it'll take you far!!
Yes! I used to do a full beat just to drive two blocks to the gas station lol I remember once in my early 20s, stopping by work to pick up my paycheck after spending the night & most of the next day in the hospital, & being MORTIFIED that my coworkers were seeing me without any makeup😭
I turn 32 next week and this is ALREADY COMPLETELY ME! I’m laughing so hard because you are so on point!!! The two glasses of wine, the pillows, the dinner reservations at 8! I can’t even! I’m knocked out by 7:30. The pizza making u sick! The accuracy!!
Agreed, I'm enjoying my 40s so much more than my 20s. I mean sure, in my 20s there were no aches and pains, no responsibilities, and a great metabolism. But by your 40s, most people learn not to give a crap about most stuff, like how you look or what other people think. Make life much more enjoyable, when you stop giving a crap! :)
That's really true. I regret all the pain I let myself have over other people. Who gives a sh#t about those a-holes now? I don't even remember most of them but I cried about stupid situations. The only people that matter in the world are my kids. And I didn't need any of those idiots to have them. Well I guess I did need 1 idiot for 30 seconds.
40's are great - I'm 55 now and am shocked every time some new part of my body hurts for no reason - in your 40's your body still feels good so enjoy them!
It's actually quite possible to have aches and pains in your 40s, some even get them in their 30s. But it's definitely easier to get back in shape when you're young. Now it takes ages.
Yes! I am 41 and would rather be in my 40s. Just wish I looked like I did in my 20s lol. The quote “I wish I knew then what I know now “ rings true. I actually sleep very well but the pillow system is facts lol. Each era has his pros and cons. Just live out your life and have fun:)
😂😂This happened to me, and it lasted for weeks. I was on my way to hospital, because I thought something was seriously wrong. A woman 35 years my senior told me to take an IBU and rest.
Oh God. This is so true. Especially the sleep thing: in the 20s, slept on a concrete floor one weekend. With just a sleeping bag. Now it's the fan, the white noise, the system of pillows....plus my husband is not able to sleep in our bed because he needs a mattress so firm I can't move the next day if I sleep on it. Also because once my pillow system is in place there's no room for him. And I also need a freezing cold room. With an open window. And a lot of blankets....which I throw off regularly because hot flashes ...
Perfect. Sharing quotes from dead writers (rather than pop bands) is another thing we do in our +40s. “Youth is the most precious thing in life; it is too bad it has to be wasted on young folks.” ~ George Bernard Shaw
@@Mama_Bear524 Hubby has his own pillow system, and besides, they absolutely stink so nobody wants to even touch them but he refuses to replace them because he claims they're perfect just the way they are.
@@suzybear22 😂. Mine’s doesn’t stink but they do cuz they’re lavender and I hate that smell. If they move an inch “I took them and used them”. No I have my own million pillows. But maybe I do when we’re asleep 🤷♀️
Once again, you guys nailed it hilariously! I am 58 and my 20s were in the 80s. My husband and I got married right out of college and had a blast for 10 years before we had kids. Lots of nights out for drinks after work and up at 5:30 the next morning no problem. Now I can barely keep my eyes open until 9 PM.
In my early 20s I read a book where this quote stuck out to me: "I overheard two women talking about how tired they were now they were over 40...I wanted to tell them enjoy it while it lasts I remember having so much energy in my 40s." I decided that I was going appreciate what energy I had no matter what my age was. I have 5 kids and being pregnant and nursing and keeping toddlers alive is taxing. I am enjoying the stage we are in now even with covid craziness going on.
This speaks to me too! I'm 25 and I know some may roll their eyes at how could I possibly have the audacity to feel old but I really do and I'm really struggling. I'm not stupid and I know what I'm thinking is not true but I still think it and feel it for some reason. A few days I even kept thinking that I'm old and sick and dying so noone will marry me. I'm not joking, it's what I was genuinelly feeling even though I simultaneously knew it wasn't true and was ridiculous. And noone in my life ever perpetuated the notion that this is an old age to marry so I can't say I've been fed such thoughts at all. It's all me for some reason. A few days ago I looked at myself in the mirror and was like ok insteas of looking at the fine lines and how the texture of my skin has changed recently why not look at all the youth in my face? So I did. And I saw I still have a very youthfull face. Then after some time I decided hey, why not enjoy my youthfull look while I still have it. Why fret over how my husband won't enjoy it (bcs in my head I'm nearly convinced I'll marry very late) which won't change that anyway and why not just enjoy it for myself now? Fretting over it doesn't change anything and I still have years left to enjoy it. Why not just let go and enjoy it. I don't know why I have such strong emotions over things _I even know are not true,_ I'm working through it a bit and seeing where it comes from but I have a long way to go. I guess I just wanted to share. Let's enjoy what we have now because it's the best we can do anyway. Fretting over what we used to have or what is slipping way does nothing but it does however steal our joy of the present.
2:45 the sleeping routine had me creasing up! 😂😂 That's ridiculously relatable, certain pillows, humidifier / fan depending on weather and not even a tiny flicker of light allowed else I cannot sleep! So different to catching some zzzz's in my car in my 20s! Couldn't do that now, not enough prep and too cold for my 44 year old bones.
Lol with the bed scene. I’m there. 👍🏻 Contour pillow for knees, hubby has special cushion for shoulder surgery recovery, acid reflux issues…. A Bed pillow puzzle to assemble each night! 😂
In our 20's, $22 COULD get you thru the week! Back then, that was enough for a tank of gas, 3 beers at the bar and a pizza delivery! Those were the days!
Oh my gosh I felt the sleeping on a deep level lol! No light whatsoever, specific pillows in specific places, fan on.... I feel so good to know it's not just me. =)
OMG, this is ALL so me! Especially the early bedtime, pillow system, and throwing out my back or dislocating a rib just by reaching for something. It reminds me of my favorite lines in the Chenille Sisters song, "Help! I'm Turning into My Parents" -- "On Friday nights I just collapse. My Happy Hour is a nap. I used to party, drink, and smoke; but now my body just says NOPE!!"
I build a pillow fort around me. It consists of 2 king size pillows, 1 regular size pillow and a body pillow. If I feel the need to sleep on my right side I have to wake up and move my pillows too. I hate it but it is needed to wake up ache and pain free.
The breaking ur bones one is so true. When I was 14 I broke a rib and I have never been in so much pain but I got through the entire thing without medical treatment. It literally hurt to breath for 6 months. But now I can barley lift a baby into a high chair because my back is killing me.
LOL! just wait til your 60s!!! 🤣🤣🤣 I have lived an active life and my joints remind me every day! But what experiences I have had--and was blessed to be with the man I loved for 30 years. 😊
I'm almost 38. I hurt my neck in my sleep when I was 35, and had to sleep on the couch with three pillows just to be able to keep my neck from hurting for a week. My knees alternate days when they hurt, but I am almost to that stage where I don't give a hoot what people think of me. It truly is amazing.
Almost 45 yo woman here, watching this after a night of 2 glasses of wine, took Benadryl and AC temp set at specific temp for sleep. Feeling like I was at a party last night😂Feeling this video to my core!
The "all you have to do is send in a picture of your feet." Had me rolling. However I have to say even in my 20s I didn't like living somewhere sketchy. Maybe cause my mom made me paranoid. The horror stories of being found dead in a ditch somewhere.
"reached for my coffee weird" I tried to lie on my stomach to read in bed last night and then spent 5 minutes writhing around trying to get rid of the side stitch. You turn 30 and it's like your body flips the lights - closing in 10, heads up - and then at 40, your body goes "Okay, so we're agreed, this one's had their chance to spread their genes, let's shut 'er down."

If I might venture a little advice, speaking as an older person:
The problems that threaten to rip your sanity apart in the present will seem a lot smaller in the future.

Goodness, no!! This is still at stretch but I’d say 7:30 is my maximum limit lol
Seriously! When will men understand that the hottest thing they could EVER do is house chores?! 😍❤️😂
While holding a baby.
YESSSS!!!
I do the chores for me because I like a clean house. My wife doesn’t seem to care either way. Which is great, because I can let things slide a little if I’m not feeling it that day. Anyways, yeah 20’s aren’t that great, little wisdom, little money.
A MAN WHO COOKS.
Nay, a man who cooks & DOES THE DISHES
I was raised by women I figured that out early.
I'm a 35 year old currently living with a bunch of girls in their early 20's. This scenario is exactly what it's like right now.
Are you old enough for them to call you ancient, though?
As an older person, I feel sorry for you...
One thing that always gets me (now that I'm older) is when I get aches and pains in places I never got them before. And having certain parts of my body make noises when I move.
I feel your pain. Moments like that help you see just how much you have grown!
Oh god WHY would you do that to yourself? 😂
Me, in my 20's: I'll never be like my Mom when I get older.
Me, in my 40's, in a tough situation: What would Mom do?
Me, in my 60's: How did Mom do it?

Haven't even left my 20's and the 40's resonate with me so much more 😆
Okay, I really appreciated Kim ending it by saying she loved her forties and wouldn't go back. So often everyone says to enjoy your youth because it only goes downhill but no matter what your going to get older, so your left dreading life
Forties are when you just start hitting your stride! Fear not!
I’m 38, so getting close, and it is only getting better and better!

Night sweats pee breaks & heartburn 😂😂 sums up my nights too
“Oh look a flat surface, I can sleep here” LoL. Also having $22 in the bank account!! Yes I remember the days!
Your 40’s are great. Wait for the 50’s. They seriously rock. And I’m totally with you on the pillow system. I even have wedges and bolsters to help keep my body from experiencing gravity.
I just watched this for maybe the 18th time. 😄
I must agree about the 50s; every decade is better than the ones before. They all had their good points, but the _freedom_ of this decade is delicious! I’m wrapping up the 50s (59 in April) and looking forward to my 60s.
Oh man, as someone in her late 40s, this really hit home. I am a "it needs to be pitch dark with the sound machine" sleeper now 100%!!

Took my 14 yo and their friend to the museum yesterday. At exactly 2:30 PM, I needed a nap.
So true, can’t seem to function without nap time.
I never understood my parents needing naps back in the 80s and 90s. They seemed so old and weird to go to sleep in the middle of the day. But now that I'm over 40, I get it.
😂😂😂
Yes! Also need a daily nap when your pregnant... with 4 other kids 😉
Just being able to get out of bed without groaning and worrying about a new injury was great 20 years ago.

I just turned 38. This is 100% accurate. I miss my 20s. You don't have to be 40 to experiences the 40s part.
Don’t know if anyone else is experiencing this but the need for glasses to read everything I pick up now reminds me of my mother holding everything at arms length trying to read it and then handing it to me and saying read this for me 😂
The cargo shorts and new balance sneakers got me 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Right before I watched this my husband came in from yard work in his cargo shorts and new balance shoes, and rawrrrrr
It's hard to miss something I can't remember...
Ugh the bending over...I feel ya.
I wish that had been me! I've always needed a solid 8+!!

Lol accurate. Also in 20’s VS. 40’s I could laugh without fear of peeing myself. 🤣
True!
@@chellybabyme Loved the "Well I guess I did need 1 idiot for 30 seconds." That's EXACTLY how I feel about my ex! ;)

Truth🙌. I'm 45 and don't give two shits anymore.
40's are great - I'm 55 now and am shocked every time some new part of my body hurts for no reason - in your 40's your body still feels good so enjoy them!
Early Arthritis. Between the dog across the street and myself, we can both tell when Bad Weather is coming.
It's actually quite possible to have aches and pains in your 40s, some even get them in their 30s. But it's definitely easier to get back in shape when you're young. Now it takes ages.
I’m 22 and I relate to 40-year-old Kim more lol

Hahaha this is soooo accurate, laughed my arse off at $20 for drinks and $2 for weekly expenses 😂

In my early 20s I read a book where this quote stuck out to me:
"I overheard two women talking about how tired they were now they were over 40...I wanted to tell them enjoy it while it lasts I remember having so much energy in my 40s."
I decided that I was going appreciate what energy I had no matter what my age was.
Yep 38 weeks preggo with #6 here. It is taxing but worth it!
