  • A derailment in the Reading, PA area prompted the re-route of several Harrisburg Line trains over the Sunbury Line.. These trains came up either the Sunbury Line or the RBMN Lehigh Line to Taylor Yard, ran around their trains and then moved back down south on the opposite line that it cam up....

I guess grabbing written train orders while moving is a thing of the past. But seeing foreign power seems to be the big thing these days. In the long ago at SP's Hardy Street yard in Houston, I saw engines from N&W, Southern, and L&N. They most likely ran to and from Houston on the SP Beaumont sub, which begins/ends at the Sabine River. I was 'fortunate' enough to be in the siding while a Rock Island freight used our line out of Houston. There had been a derailment on their line. It was the usual F unit series of 2 A's and 1 B.

NIce.. That's a wonderful memory to have.. Ironically SP eventually got a big chunk of the Rock Island when it went defunct around 1981 which I'm sure you're aware of.. I don't know of any railroads that do the written train orders thing anymore but it sure would be nice to catch it on video.

A loaded trash train 63V that piled up and derailed down around the NS Reading, Pennsylvania area prompted many trains to detour in the Sunbury Branch. NS 071 will halt in Taylor for BNSF power to run around the train and separate in the NS Buffalo Line and Harrisburg and Rutherford Yard to tie down before my train to Atlanta rises on the next day.

I spent the whole day in Scranton on Friday 4/19 hoping to catch some unique moves, but didn't see much. An odd super short NS train around noon (ish), that was it. Forgot my scanner of course, so I was running blind. The DLW was quite active though. 2 trips down to Taylor. Always a good day when you've got Alcos burbling on both sides of you.
