tysm all your videos have helped me two days ago I found a person who was lost and only spoke sign language but I understood her because i watch your videos every day
I want to thank you for these videos because I work at a daycare and there is a girl who can't hear and everyone ignores her and she was really depressed and crying when people had a conversation without her so I wanted to learn sign because I was new and felt bad and I use your videos to help I don't know much but it makes her happy someone is trying
Thank you! MY care coordinator is coming to take me TO Walmart and when I see her. I'm going to share this video and have her keep it in her texts so she can access it to learn. She works for Central Nassau Guidance in Nassau County Long Island NY, as a care coordinator but has a social work degree. She helps me do things mostly with travel since I still have to get my licence renewed and other things with paperwork. So I'm sure even the basic of asking are you deaf to someone in the office as a walk-in, that will help them get directed to the right person at least. 😉💜😎
Meredith is an awesome teacher Meredith and her team puts out videos all the time they have silent chats during the week the week and if you want practice time just ask someone is always willing to help or just practice with you I've been a member for a year now I've learned so much she makes it fun there is also a one day a week she'll answer questions anyone has we're like a little family 🎉❤
She is NOT supposed to teaching our ASL from our deaf community. She is a cultural appropriation as depraved our ASL. We deaf community are the one teaching our ASL, not her!!
@@SH-pg9qwI would love to agree with you, but, hearing people can teach more easily because they can say things verbally while signing, and hear us when we ask questions. We are learning for the deaf community, and hearing people teaching hearing people only creates a larger community capable of communicating with the deaf. It's the easiest way to teach and learn, with active communication.
I am a Japanese student. I am always grateful for your help! One thing is bothering me. How are you? Are there no signs for the "are" part of "How are you?
@@adriennemccue-SUFMH I'm a student of Japanese Sign Language! I teach sign language in a game called VRchat. I study American, Irish, Korean, Chinese, German, French and Brazilian Sign Language!
There is an "are" sign. However it is mostly omitted, especially when the "are" is implied. Thebade sign is making a "R" with your dominate hand, placing the fingers on your lips and then moving them forward.
Oh hi there- I am still learning ASL myself; but I do know about this^… Despite the association with English, ASL is its own unique language- to expect them to be the same can lead to difficulties when trying to understand & communicate in ASL. Just like comparing English to another language like Japanese; there will be differences in sentence structure and word order- same with ASL.
There are variants of ASL called P.S.E and S.E.E. That use closer-to-English (or exact English) grammar.. However, when someone asks you in ASL “Your name what?”- you will inevitably translate it in your thoughts as simply ‘what is your name?’
Pure ASL used within the deaf community has its own grammar. If you think about it from a more visual perspective it starts to make more sense. For example, “I like watching UA-cam” is signed as “UA-cam I watch enjoy” because that’s how it goes in real life. First you pull up UA-cam, then you watch, then you feel enjoyment.
I have the same issue when going from English to Latin, and my wife and I are trying to learn Irish Gaelic and again the word order is different. I'm a newbie at ASL and often sign as I speak most just smile as if I didn't screw up, some people are kind and help me 😊
Is there a reason it’s signed as “you name what you” instead of “what you name” or can you do either? I assume since the signs are the same, just reversed or switched around, it’s still understandable right? Or no?
I have a question: how would a profoundly Deaf person with no hearing devices do a spelling bee? Let's say it's a word with no existing sign. You couldn't finger-spell it 'cause then they would know how to spell it, you can't put the word up on a screen, you can't show a picture because there's usually multiple words for one item. If you showed a picture of a cow (this is just an example, I know the word "cow" would not be in a spelling bee above Kindergarten.) then they might say bull, bovine, or livestock. Is there any obvious way that I'm missing? 🤔🤔🤔

@@haleyp5178 Why is it omitted?
Because it is close to an unnecessary word?
And sorry for the late reply!
Wow this video is exactly what i was looking for 🎉❤ thank you

This was so good, thank you!
I still want to know why you have to sign things “backwards?” Why can’t you sign, “Do you want hamburger or hotdog?”

hi these videos help me so much with learning asl❤❤
Very helpful video. Thank you!
I have an older ASL book that has asl with the same Grammer as normal English. Which is perfered?
Is there a reason it’s signed as “you name what you” instead of “what you name” or can you do either? I assume since the signs are the same, just reversed or switched around, it’s still understandable right? Or no?
keep your inspiration
Do they have deaf teachers also?
Thank you.
Thaks ❤❤❤so much
in sign language do we use prepositions or articles, etc?
I’m a grocery cashier. Would love some basic situational phrases for when I work. Paper or plastic bags? Did you find everything ok? Your total is $$.
thank u so much

Are you profoundly deaf?
Do you have to sign using ASL Grammer when conversing with someone?
Where can I find videos where you sign first then tell us
I would love help.
I love UA-cam.
Is “zoo” spelled with your index finger and not your pinky?
Yes. Use index finger.
I'm trying to learn, but why is the sign language backwards?
I am great.

Sorry, please, but i am really trying to follow, but I'm kind of slow, and everything looks like it's going too fast, and i don't understand a thing
Have you tried adjusting the playspeed setting on this video? I sometimes find it can be easier to learn new signs at 0.75 speed.
Okay thank you
