First gold medal at a world event for Japan's Mens Team Foil! Incredible!
Japan's men's foil began rising after Ota Yuki's silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, which was followed by the team's silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics. Since then many strong fencers began to emerge, and now they have one of the best team fencers of all time as their coach: Erwann Le Pechoux!
@@FencingInsiderOh indeed. I've always been a fan of the Japanese Mens Foil as a whole (Yuki Ota is my favourite). To see them makign milestones like this at last is a great sign of things to come for them.
Yes, having Le Pechoux as their coach has clearly shown. Matsuchek did an amazing job with the original team but Le Pechoux is gonna take them to the next level.
What a fantastic closeout by Shikine! I love how the Japanese team is fencing! By the way, who is the new lefty on the Italian team? I really like the way he fences
@dzfz2100 Shikine wasted no time in that closeout! In 34 seconds it was all over ⚡ Great team effort by the Japanese, with all of them contributing to the win -- Imura's comeback against Marini was critical.
The lefty on the Italian team is Filippo Macchi, who just finished second at the most recent GP in Turin.
