Hello Chani. Thank you for your lovely video. I am currently in Japan as well (this my 8th time here). But this time, I decided to stay for 3 months, go to a Japanese language school (specifically for conversations and see if I love Japan more than just for vacation. It turns out I really do! So, with my new mindset, I've decided to go back to my own country for about six months, save some extra money and go back to Japan to start a new life there, together with my cat. I'm 43 now, so I'm not the youngest. But your video's really helped me in a way, seeing that age doesn't matter to make a new move. ❤
I’m so glad you loved Japan even after a long stay. Your plan sounds perfect. Getting some savings to support you when you first arrive is an excellent idea🩷 Very excited for your journey!
Hello! I've been thinking quite a bit about spending a few months in Japan doing an immersive Japanese course, but unsure which city and which language school to pick. Would greatly appreciate hearing your thoughts on the city and school that you picked.
Thanks for sharing. I am an immigrant to America from Vietnam seven years ago and I did have the same experience. Yes with patience then everything turns out ok.
You made me giggle, my life was all about change from the moment I was born. A constant changing, places, life, work. I am now in a different position, COVID brought a change for most of us. I just coped by stepping forward, I just did it. My famous quote to my kids is, 'If I forget something there is always the credit card'. I've managed, always. I know from my past that if something happens, I adapt and will go forward. For a few years, I have had a base, it is new to me, and I like it. Making roots. I am curious by nature, I love to be in different places learning new things. Fear is something that freezes you, curiosity is freeing. If my kids are okay, my kitties are with me, what do I need more? A roof above my head, something to eat, somewhere to sleep. If I don't try it? I will never know if I can do it. It's an attitude, Chani. Look at you, you did it. Well done.
I enjoy your videos so much. I relate so much to how you started a new life. For the first time in my life (at age 70) I’m living on my own and started a new life for myself. I studied art in high school and always wanted to be a full time artist. Once I retired a few years ago I became a full time watercolour artist. People told me I couldn’t but I’ve done it. I have my house, my art and my life has a sense of peace. Keep up with the videos, I’m enjoying your journey.
As the Buddha would say: nothing is fixed or permanent. Change is the only certain. Everyone goes through change, is a natural part of life, and I believe, with age, we become more used to endure it and to embrace it. Otherwise we are damned to be stuck in the past. Great video Chani!
I am so happy when I see content like this. I am a 26 year old Dutch-Afghan lady and I started learning Japanese a few years ago and hope to find a job there. You are giving so many people hope around the world. Thank you! 🙏🏻 ❤
Sigh. So I’ve had a huge amount of changes lately! I resigned one job where I was a supervisor, took a step down at a very nice company that I like a lot, but the health situations I had been developing became even worse with the stress of moving from one company to another. Thankfully I’ve now managed to lighten my load, my sleep continues to get better, and so is my health. I AM WORRIED however about our visit in September to Japan and all the walking I’ll be doing. I think my knees and hips will be angry at me lol. As always loving your videos from North Pole Alaska! ❤
Oh you have had some big changes! I’m glad your load is lighter 🩷There is a lot of walking in Japan so anything you can do now to get ready will help on your knees and hips 🚶♀️
I would love to be able to do this. I love your attitude about life and change and the fact that you’re not trying to become “Japanese” that you’re an Australian living in Japan-excellent point . At this age (I am 50) the perks are that you have a better sense of self- change can be exciting, rather than frightening. I got accepted to university for the first time and plan to attend this Fall. I feel a bit silly going to university at my age, but I have always wanted a BA. I also want to live in Japan someday ( I did sign up for your language course 😁) I feel like I am starting a new chapter. I believe that the only thing that holds anyone back from doing something are labels: “too old,” “too broke “ etc. we have to stop labeling ourselves - life opens when you open yourself to new experiences. Love the fountain ⛲️- Millie has to be the most loved cat in Japan❤
I'm part of a Japan Association and they have a partnership in Kanazawa for 2 week homestay study tours. I emailed the organizer and asked if I'm too old at 41 and his replay was "Our oldest participant was 82, so no, you're not too old". That also means that you're not too old, so go for it! 😉
I see change as something positive. I am going to visit Japan on my own next year and I can't wait 😊. I'll be going in November to photograph the autumn leaves 🍁🍂. I need to do this trip for myself and it's something that I would have never done before. My gut and heart are saying go but my mind is cautious (which is a good thing I guess). I'm going to visit with an open mind. I'm going to spend a week in Kyoto (for a base), then travel to Osaka and stay overnight in a temple in Nara (I'll keep the room in Kyoto as well). Then I'll travel to Tokyo and do some day trips to the Fuji as well as explore Tokyo. I'll then head home 😭✈️ I don't know what I'll find in Japan but I know I I'll appreciate it ❤🫶 Thank you Chani for your constant inspiration to make dreams come real without relying on anyone else ❤
Sounds like a great plan. I always go in Nov - autumn is my favourite time. I would recommend avoiding the big name tourist spots in Kyoto, it is madness, although do get up really early and visit Fushimi Inari. Inwent at 6.00am and it was so peaceful. You can wander through the avenue of torii in complete solitude. Otherwise, go to the northern part of Kyoto there are dozens of peaceful shrines that rarely see a tourist. Hop on a bus and go to the little town of Ohara. Have fun!
Change is inevitable and is the thing that builds our character. If your comfortable, you're not changing much. The phases of change can be exciting when you appreciate their existence. I used to despise change, but now I embrace it as part of our life cycle. Humans are very resourceful at adapting to new environments, part of my fascination with Japan are the ways Japanese society have embraced change. Your video's show how things can be different or similar to our own realities. Thanks for another video ☺👍
I have always seen change as an opportunity to learn. Being a very independent person, my husband of 12 years was recently away for two weeks and I was truly shocked by the anxiety and loneliness I experienced in his absence. Talking to him about this helped me feel validated and more loved than ever before.
I feel like a foreigner in my own country. Just by moving to a city, where I didnt know anybody after having been abroad for many years. I love your videos. They give me hope that I might one day be happy and free (again), like you seem to be now. Best of luck with the camper, cant wait to see you buy it and be taken on the camping adventures!!! Its cool you are taking us with you on your research trips already.❤
I grew up in the military, so I’m used to change. In fact I need change constantly now and I would love to go to Japan, but because the family obligations and medical issues that can’t happen right now I just like to go for a visit but not yet.
Hey Chani! I've been watching your channel for a couple weeks. When I found your channel, I was actually in the process of moving to Japan as an ALT. You and your channel brought me some piece of mind during all the chaos of getting ready to leave my home and helped answered a lot of different questions that I didn't know I had. Now, I'm in Japan and it still feels like I'm walking in a dream. I've only been here for a week but I just want to say thank you! It's been an emotional roller coaster (which I'm sure you're familiar with) but your videos always put a smile on my face. Every time I watch one of your videos it helps calm me when I'm feeling anxious! Tomorrow I start at my new school! TLDR: Thank you for your videos! It's really helped me as I'm been moving and transitioning to life here in Japan!
Just got back to Australia , spent last few weeks in Wakayama, shirahama and Osaka , I know why you moved there, beautiful, Australia almost 3rd world compared to Japan. Definitely the goal to move there one day.
Your channel has given me so much encouragement. I have one more kid in high school another three years and I’m already doing my research and plans to move to Japan. I’m always looking for ways for US passport holders to live and work in Japan legally indefinitely. What a great channel and community you’ve created here! Wishing you nothing but prosperity and peace!
Kudos to you for making the decision to uproot yourself from Australia and move to Japan! Humans are creatures of comfort, and not many of us will readily get out of our comfort zone. At the same time, I think that your move is meant to be, since you had visited and stayed with a host Japanese family during your high school, learned and become fluent in Japanese enabling you to find a teaching job once relocated. Having visited Japan several times and driven around several regions of Japan by my friends, I believe that Japanese will give a foreigner space and time to adapt to Japanese life. You have done very well to adapt to your new 'country'!
Right now my husband and I are down sizing our possessions with the goal of being able to move to a smaller home either in our city or possibly to move To Oregon from California. While it is stressful, I am feeling freer and less tied down with each box that I send off to charity. I do have moments where I get over whelmed by thinking of all we will need to do in this process. The most helpful attitude I think for me is focusing on the empty box in front of me and trying to think about what would be the easiest item to let go of. I'm finding cupboards that I have not looked deeply into for more than 24 years! Some items bring back memories of past use of cake pans, knitting books, or whatever, but I reflect on my purpose and that helps me let go. Having a specific goal--13 more boxes in the next 2 weeks! Can I do it? I hope so. PS: my two cats did not like using a kitty water fountain--too scary for some reason, but maybe because it was a stainless steel version and not a crockery one like yours. Thank you for your channel!
Hi Chani, another great vlog. I faced reverse culture shock when I decided to return to the UK after over 30 years working overseas. That was as challenging as heading off for a new country - facing my fears and doing it anyway did work. Your quote: 'what would you do if you weren't afraid?' has me thinking again, three years after my return. I do put a lot of things off, mostly related to driving long distances on roads I'm unfamiliar with, so appreciate the research you are putting into your future camping trips. I think that silencing an inner voice that I can't do something is paramount when facing my fears. Adorable Millie content! Thank you for your vlogs Chani!
Antiseptic wipes. Everything I touched, I wiped. Just moved to reno and been in hotels for almost 2 weeks until we found our rental. Still settling in, then onto another hunt to find our forever home. Then maybe getting an rv, SUP board (left mine in hawaii), and a kayak for my husband. Be safe camping, and bring a friend.
Absolutely relate to stress of the move. On my way over soon. Totally committed, all makes sense........but hard to shake of debilitating anxiety. Watching your vids helps !
Thanks for sharing these inspiring videos Chani. Although my dreams of going back to Japan are on hold, I am hoping when my daughter is older we can take an extended stay. Your practical and realistic videos make my dream seem more possible and less terrifying. Can't wait to hear more about your journey. And Hello to Millie. For tough transitions, I make sure to fit in meditation, and doing small things that make me happy, for example: wearing my favourite overalls, working on an artwork or making French toast for breakfast.
FABULOUS! You go girl! You will look back at this change one day with the utmost respect and pride for yourself! Love your message and video! Should i win the lotto, pull out that couch! I'm coming to visit! 🤗😅 Blessed be 🙏
I have a wife and kids, but I'd love to try relocating to Japan. I'm still learning Japanese, and my wife/kids don't know it at all. I imagine it'll be really tough, so we'll revisit it when they've gone off to college perhaps. By then I might know more Japanese and maybe it will be better. It's always inspiring to see your story and your journey, though!
We did visit last year, I loved the west rural side of Japan. My language tutor lives in Isahaya, near Nagasaki, and it was really cute and peaceful. I would love to see more of that side of Japan when we come back. Thanks for your suggestion, it's definitely the plan!
Your videos are always so helpful and encouraging. Congratulations on the sponsorship! Fortunately, I have most of my ducks in a row to take the leap, except I have two adult cats. One of which is very bonded to me and I worry he may feel abandoned if I were leave him with family/friend. The other is very sociable and would do great anywhere. I want to enroll in a Japanese language school on a 1 year student visa and hopefully, acquire a job before the visa expires.
Just wanted to say me wife and I LOVE your channel! Many congrats on your successes and sponsorship, and your overall transition to Japan. We’re moving to Ishikawa prefecture this fall, which will be our 7th country to live in. TOTALLY echo your thoughts on positive mental attitudes and periods to adjust. I was a military brat, and have always tried to live…as the best ambassador I could as the “token everyday” foreigner in any location that I visit/live in. We’re right there with ya…and we are SO looking forward to living in Japan! (We’ve done the touristy Osaka & Kyoto thing, so now we’re diving into the real deal, lol!) We watch your channel every week and appreciate you, Milly, and all your tips and insights in your story. Many Thanks and Cheers!
Your videos are great. It's nice to see content from someone with a positive mindset on moving to Japan. It inspires my partner and me on our upcoming move to Japan this fall.
I love your channel so much! I am sure you have heard this many times, but your voice and presentation are so soothing and I love seeing nature and home footage. I moved to France from the US 17 years ago (when I was 38) after meeting my French husband. I didn't speak French at the time and he didn't speak English so it was really a trial by fire, language-wise, but very grateful it was French only, because now I speak French! We lived in a small village in really rural France (500 people)... after we separated (we are still good friends, tho), I moved to Paris alone and have been here 12 years. While I did have an in-person job in Paris for many years - I have worked fully remotely since 2018. Friends come and go (very transient city) and it's just really hard to feel motivated to get out and meet new people over and over. It's nice to hear people speak about loneliness.🌸
Wow! what you are calling 'small victories' are HUGE victories! ...a job, new Japanese friends, driving in a foreign country without googlemaps!!! Very impressive indeed!
Your videos give me so much hope and courage. I had a bad experience during the pandemic where I had to move back to the place I grew up (not ideal) so now my confidence in getting myself out of my comfort zone is low, but you're good at showing all the little steps it takes to get there, so I have hope ❤
Change can be scary, but it can also be a wonderful adventure! Doing research and learning as much as you can about whatever change you are going to make is key. It’s the unknown that scares many. So try to learn as much as you can. Then go forth and conquer your fear. I very much enjoy your videos. Thank you. 😃
Can you make a video about driving in Japan? Especially for drivers like Americans, we drive on the other side of the road, and what to expect, etc. Thanks!
Thank you for showing the positives even when change is scary and difficult. Your content is always so inspiring for all of us that would like to make a big move like you did! Looking forward to your next video 😊💛😺
Just returned from our first visit to Japan. My feeling is that actually being there reinforces the focus and determination you have found to achieve your wonderful new life. The Japanese people were gracious, friendly and helpful despite our shortfalls in language. However, I’d strongly recommend that achieving some fundamental language skills would of course add to the experience. We found translation software did get us by for our 12 day visit. If I was considering a longer visit then your course would be the go to. What a remarkable country, culture and people!
I read the book "who moved my cheese" too - it was obligatory to read in one of my last employers . It is a thin little booklet , very good to read. Changes are usually harder when they just come after a long time of no changes. the comfort zone is then much bigger. But when you decide to make a big change as moving countries - do it step by step. Lots of research while learning the language. If you are alone without partner, children and pets it is of course easier. I moved with cats twice across countries and it was worth all efford! Right now I should make a change since my situation is not making me happier week by week. But with what's going on in the world - it is not easy to find out where the next change will lead me to.
Thank you for your videos. They always give me something to think about. I am on my way to saving to at least visit Japan, hopefully in the next year. Yes the State of O was a great game.
As inspiring as ever, Chani. 💪 I'm 44 now and I'm going to start your Japanese lessons. I have visited six times but I feel it's time for me to make a bigger leap in the next two to three years. Cheers again for your sharing. Heartening to see your channel growing so rapidly - seems a few of us relate to your journey.
Thank you for another wonderful video Chani. I look forward to the latest everyweek! Change is difficult...no doubt about that...and yet it is the ONLY constant. I have spoken so many times about my love for Japan...and I hope one day I will be able to make that life change and move over there. Like you...Im not trying to be Japanese...nor trying to escape some demon back here in Melbourne...but I cant deny that for some inexplicable reason...Japan seems to be where my head and my heart are. It is diffcult at the moment as my wife and I are both looking after older parents...and we have a 10 year old whose opinion and needs we cant ignore...but slowly we research and make plans.
You're doing awesome! The video content will inspire many to follow their hearts. One of the biggest things ive learned on my travels and spending lots of time alone is the loneliness that comes with it. Loneliness is a major part of growth, learning to be with oneself is one of the most important adaptions in life. if you can be content being with yourself then you are truly growing. Everything else follows suit after :) Thanks for the content!! I cannot wait to live there
@@ChaniJapan I totally forgot to ask you if you had assistance when buying your home? I know your kick butt at speaking Japanese, but I am not thats for sure, ad I am sure your courses when I am ready will help but ive been back and forth about the process and what not. I'll be coming to JP soon to look at some Akiya and hopes to have a connection by then to start negotiations and what not. Hope I didn't bore ya!
@@whistlebirdproductions6249 I managed to do the whole process by myself. My parents happened to be visiting when I was house hunting so they were a good sounding board.
@@ChaniJapan lucky duck 🦆 I’ll get it all sorted out in divine timing. I think maybe renting a home for a few months is my best bet. Rent a car and drive around looking 👀 at 🏘️
Really appreciate your channel. Thank you for sharing all that you do. I wanted to say also that fountains from hardware stores may not be food safe for your lovely sweet friend, so please take care.
My Cat LOVES his water fountain. Growing up, I was very lucky in that I got to go camping around Australia during the spring school holidays so seeing you want to give it a go is awesome! I loved it and if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out! I may not know a lot about Japan's wildlife, but I've done plenty of camping trips into the middle of nowhere, so I've packed the car more times than I can count! It's something I look forward to when I eventually can move to Japan, is getting to experience a whole new world. I love that you're sharing your experience and the worries you went through. It makes it a much less daunting task for everyone else.
I’ve done a bit of camping in Australia but to be honest it was more like ‘glamping’. So I don’t have much experience with bringing all the things you need.
I'm sure you've already checked this, but just in case...make sure your new van fits in your lovely garage. I've made that mistake unfortunately 🤭. I want to thank you for your amazing channel! I'm also in my early fifties and having to start my life over. Your positivity and courage keep me inspired. Thank you.
I moved to Canada from the USA in my late 30s, and while it was hard, I have the itch to move somewhere else again. I’m older now (mid-50s) and I worry that it’s too late to make another move.
Decided on a super early night and happy to open up my laptop and see a new Chani video :) (spent the afternoon zooming in around Kumano to see where I'd like to stay during my Wakayama visit and came across some amazing looking onsen hotels overlooking the sea....can't wait !)
Hi Chani! I just want to let you know that I really do enjoyed watching all your journey living in Japan. You’re brave and full of life! I like your cat where did you find her ? Anyway, I’m looking forward to watch more of your adventures. You’re a great inspiration. Take care ❤Nans
my cat was afraid of her water fountain at first, but now she likes it. I think Millie might be like that. Might take her some time but maybe she will learn to like it
As I was listening to all your thoughts on what might be holding you back from making such a change, and I was reflecting on my working life in Japan 30 years ago wondering if I could ever work in Japan again, you show the hotel sign which just happens to be the same group of hotels I worked for in 1993/94 (after my exchange in Matsue in 1991). Back then it was known as National Vacation Villages “Kyukamura” which was run by the government. I worked in Minami Izu in Shizuoka and Tateyama in Chiba. Back then yours was simply known as Kada Kokuminkyukamura. I have pulled out my guide book which lists all the resorts throughout Japan. I was also lucky enough to visit the one at Iwate San and another one in Myoko in Nagano. So many memories. I would love to live in Japan again but I wish I didn’t have to be employed to get the visa!
That is such incredible timing! Amazing you worked for this hotel group. I relate to the job and visa connection. When you work everyday it doesn’t leave much time for play🤔
Warning! My destructive little Ragdoll fluffbutt used to grab the edges of the fountain and pick it up to drop or tip it. Just because. We had to get one with big round edges so she couldn't get her mouth around and grab. I initially attempted to attach it to a board....so if couse she just learned to wedge herself under the board and tip it that way. She was the best destructive fluffbutt ever and Millie reminds me of her lol!
hey chani. iv been watching ur journey. great vids - thx for sharing. just imho id suggest it may help investing in a pop filter, foam cover for your mic on the videos to tame those plosives which are quite pronounced especially when using headphones. ganbarimasu
Sounds like great progress. Ive retired from working 3 years now and that is a change! I miss socialising but have found a hobby that keeps my mind busy. Sewing 😊. My husband is now retired and that is another big change 😅! We do learn to adapt but not always an easy road. Looking forward to your next vlog.
Thanks for sharing! I love your videos. You have such a calming energy. I hope you’re enjoying your time in Japan, as is Millie! Is there a particular website you recommend for akiya search?
You're making me fall in love with Wakayama! Thank you for continuing to provide valuable insight into transitioning to life there. A couple of video topics to consider, getting a Japanese driver's license and how you transferred large amount of cash for your home purchase. Any tips, onegaishimasu?!
Hi chani, yes go the queenslanders, lucky you can still watch the state of origin while in Japan 😊. Love watching your channel from Brisbane ✌️🤗🤗 Hi milly
Great video, Chani! I have a question about Millie: Do you happen to brush her with a Furminator (or similar brand?) I had a long-haired cat for many years. And I would brush her with a Furminator to remove all the dead undercoat fur. It just accumulates and gets stuck, like velcro. It was incredible how much dead fur came out, especially at the start of summer. She would look much less fluffy, but the good news was that she would be RELIEVED from not having all that dead itchy fur clinging to her skin. Eventually, she loved getting brushed with the it, because she knew she would feel better afterwards.
I have three different brushes. 🤣 She doesn’t like it that much so I rotate the brushes. I try and brush her every day. As it’s gotten warmer she has lost so much fur 🙀
You may wish to buy Mili an automatic fountain to save on constant noise. UA-camr "Milo the Trucker Cat" lady recently purchased a new one she is finally happy with and no splashes in the Kenworth once she remover the "flower" insert - Milo prefers it this way too - like yours bubbling in the centre.
Shorncliffe - haven't heard that place mentioned in a long time. Just did a Google Maps walk around and it's sure changed since I was last there. I've been in Canada for almost 18 years now, originally from Brisbane southside (Annerley). Glad you're liking Japan. It's been 35 years since I was there...maybe time for a holiday...
Change is hard for me but it's okay I try to view each challenge as an exercise to get better at it. I'm eager to see your camping stuff. I really enjoy the anime Laid Back Camp
I’ve heard some cats are very sensitive to having their whiskers touch anything, that’s why you want to give a cat their food on a flat plate. So, perhaps a fountain that has a tube that lets it come out more like a water fountain? Maybe you could insert a tube that is potable? I understand cats get a lot of their moisture from cat food. I did have a cat, but it acted like my dog, so I think he was a little different.
Yet another 5 star video from you! Both inspirational and practical as always. (0:15) Say goodbye and leave everything that was familiar? Well, I just spotted something that is very familiar. Roku-Gin! (2:25) Same here. After living in NZ for 28 yrs, I’m still what I am : Japanese living in NZ.
Another great video , Chain. You have a real knack for story telling. Can't help but be impressed by your Japanese fluency. The topic is a worthy one; I'd say there are always so many reasons to find not to do something. And fear in all its guises is usually behind noacting . The big one is fear of letting go of the rock you are clinging to and letting the stream take you downstream. In short, fear of the unknown. Clearly you've had to face and surmount this exact fear; what were the ways you overcame it? You mentioned being on autopilot: was this a way to face it? Grateful views.
Yes I think when I was in auto pilot it was like dealing with one issue at a time rather than doing it all at once. That may have got me past those first weeks in Japan.
I would encourage you to just jump in and give camping a go for one night. One night is very doable regardless of any inconveniences that arise from things you didn't know or think about ahead of time. Camping is a wonderful experience. It's also one of those things where the more you go, the more you learn what you really do and don't need.
I grew up camping with my family, and from what you've been saying in your videos, I think you will enjoy it. And the campgrounds you've shown look very nice!

It's an attitude, Chani. Look at you, you did it. Well done.
I love your attitude and mindset! 🩷 you certainly have good adapting skills😃
I can just imagine your peaceful life. It sounds wonderful 🖼️🧑🎨🖌️🎨
I like how you are not afraid to go places, camp and visit other towns instead of staying in your house good for you. Keep it up 👍
I like a balance of both. My introvert self does like a good night in 🤔
As the Buddha would say: nothing is fixed or permanent. Change is the only certain. Everyone goes through change, is a natural part of life, and I believe, with age, we become more used to endure it and to embrace it. Otherwise we are damned to be stuck in the past. Great video Chani!
I like that. Yes only change is certain.
I am so happy when I see content like this. I am a 26 year old Dutch-Afghan lady and I started learning Japanese a few years ago and hope to find a job there. You are giving so many people hope around the world. Thank you! 🙏🏻 ❤
That’s wonderful! Good idea to start learning Japanese to prepare yourself for living in Japan ✨🩷

With change comes regrowth, wisdom and appreciation. Good on ya girl! Soldier on! ❤
This week was tough so I was looking forward to your video. ❤
I hope you are ok 🩷
I love your view on change! I agree that age isn’t a barrier. 😃I love that you are doing what you always wanted to do and going to study. 🩷
Your travel plans sound amazing 😃 sounds like you’ve done some good research. The overnight at a temple will be a unique experience.

Love your comment. Phases of change 🩷
I have always seen change as an opportunity to learn. Being a very independent person, my husband of 12 years was recently away for two weeks and I was truly shocked by the anxiety and loneliness I experienced in his absence. Talking to him about this helped me feel validated and more loved than ever before.
It’s good you could open up and talk about how you missed him. I think that is really sweet 🩷
Oh my goodness! Mini Milly is so adorable!
She was so cute and all white when she was a kitten
I feel like a foreigner in my own country. Just by moving to a city, where I didnt know anybody after having been abroad for many years. I love your videos. They give me hope that I might one day be happy and free (again), like you seem to be now. Best of luck with the camper, cant wait to see you buy it and be taken on the camping adventures!!! Its cool you are taking us with you on your research trips already.❤
Thank you. Change when moving cities is hard.
Keen to take you along camping in Japan 🏕️🚙
Always better to be a foreign in a foreign country, than to be a foreigner in your own country
I am so excited for you! Hang in there the first few weeks are hard. But you’ve made such a big step already. Well done. Keep in touch 🩷🩷🩷
Chani: Millie please drink from the fountain
Millie: *washes paw* lol
Such an adorable kitty!
Just got back to Australia , spent last few weeks in Wakayama, shirahama and Osaka , I know why you moved there, beautiful, Australia almost 3rd world compared to Japan. Definitely the goal to move there one day.
I’m glad you came by Wakayama. It’s a great little spot.
Thank you so much 🩷 great idea to start your research and planning. 😃
Thanks so much😃 I’m glad you got the chance to drive around Japan 🚙
I like your idea of one box at a time and the goal to get it down. Downsizing is very liberating 🩷
the hotel looks like it would be a good one to stay in ..
I totally agree. I think it has amazing views. Good ocean breeze in Summer too.
Thank you. Yes one of my biggest fears was getting lost when I was driving and not having signal for Google maps 😅
Kayak sounds fun🏕️🚙
Absolutely relate to stress of the move. On my way over soon. Totally committed, all makes sense........but hard to shake of debilitating anxiety. Watching your vids helps !

Thanks for sharing these inspiring videos Chani. Although my dreams of going back to Japan are on hold, I am hoping when my daughter is older we can take an extended stay. Your practical and realistic videos make my dream seem more possible and less terrifying. Can't wait to hear more about your journey. And Hello to Millie.

In the meantime you could visit and find a place you like.
I think you’ve put a lot of thought into your plans 🩷 I hope you can find a good solution for your fur babies 🐱🐱
I love following your vlogs..I am so delighted that you made tte change to an amazing new country..we are there mentally supporting you..❤
Very kind of you 👋 thank you 🩷
Just wanted to say me wife and I LOVE your channel!
(We’ve done the touristy Osaka & Kyoto thing, so now we’re diving into the real deal, lol!)
We watch your channel every week and appreciate you, Milly, and all your tips and insights in your story. Many Thanks and Cheers!
That’s is very exciting news. I bet you are nearly counting down the days. 👋

Thanks so much for your support 🩷 Not long now until you move here ✈️
I love your channel so much!
Yes. Moving here alone there were times when I really felt the loneliness.
Wow! what you are calling 'small victories' are HUGE victories! ...a job, new Japanese friends, driving in a foreign country without googlemaps!!! Very impressive indeed!
Yes true. I am most happy about not needing to use Google maps all the time because I have no direction sense. 😅
Love your videos and the adorable Millie!!
Thank you🩷 she is a cutie 🐱
Your videos give me so much hope and courage. I had a bad experience during the pandemic where I had to move back to the place I grew up (not ideal) so now my confidence in getting myself out of my comfort zone is low, but you're good at showing all the little steps it takes to get there, so I have hope ❤

I’m so happy you had a great experience in Japan. ✨🩷🇯🇵
Really enjoying your vlog and the insights into your new life in Japan, Chani! I will check out your Japanese courses too!
Awesome! Thank you for watching 😃✨
I agree! The world is a bit of a worry at the moment ❤️

A bigger leap sounds exciting! ✨ Learning Japanese will be a good start to preparing for the journey.

That’s the best way. Keep making plans and then hopefully it all comes together. 🩷
I cannot wait to live there
Thanks so much 🩷 I agree that it’s important to be content with being yourself 😃

Thank you so much!! I got Millie here in Japan. She had a few issues when she was born so I think that’s why she has some personality.
my cat was afraid of her water fountain at first, but now she likes it.
@@ChaniJapan I have worked for myself for the past 14 years. It would be a huge shock to be employed again!
Many thanks for sharing your journey. Nice to see things appear to be moving pretty smoothly for you and Millie. Take care. 😺
Thank you! 😊

Hi chani, yes go the queenslanders, lucky you can still watch the state of origin while in Japan 😊. Love watching your channel from Brisbane ✌️🤗🤗 Hi milly
😊 thank you🩷 Millie says 👋
Great Vid again!! my little support of your camping car.
It’s a massive support 🩷 Thank you so much. I am very grateful 🏕️🚙
She has finally started drinking it. I’m really glad she won’t get dehydrated.
Shorncliffe is a lovely place now. Very beautiful 🩷
Change is hard for me but it's okay I try to view each challenge as an exercise to get better at it. I'm eager to see your camping stuff. I really enjoy the anime Laid Back Camp
I like your way of thinking 🩷
I’ve heard some cats are very sensitive to having their whiskers touch anything, that’s why you want to give a cat their food on a flat plate. So, perhaps a fountain that has a tube that lets it come out more like a water fountain? Maybe you could insert a tube that is potable? I understand cats get a lot of their moisture from cat food. I did have a cat, but it acted like my dog, so I think he was a little different.
Millie acts a bit like a dog too. She is a funny girl 🐱🩷
Thank you! Yes we are who we are! I like that you are also happy being Japanese living in NZ.
Love how natural your Japanese sounds Chani. I don't know if its true that you wont see yourself as Japanese in the future....
Very kind of you ❤️
Another lovely video Chani, good luck with the car
Thank you! 😀 I’ve agreed to a few sponsors to help get closer to the goal 🏕️🚙
Japanese is your language which already is bonus/advantage to do compared to others.
And you can also teach English.
Nice with subtitles!! 🙏❤💪
Great! I’m trying to get more Japanese chats on video 👋
Good idea😃
I grew up camping with my family, and from what you've been saying in your videos, I think you will enjoy it. And the campgrounds you've shown look very nice!
Good point, your use of a VPN.
I have been using a VPN for over a decade mainly to get around the censorship in OZ.
But most of the time now I just watch Japanese and Korean video as a local would! Shame I can't speak either language!
I don’t watch much Australian TV just the odd game here and there. I do like having a vpn.
