    Best video I have seen. Printer arrived yesterday struggled a little until I found your video.

    This was a great tutorial. Simple, short, good pace and volume. The only thing I would mention is that you can offset the edge path so when you cut you have a bit of bleed. People who just create an outline then send it to cut can end up with an imperfect looking edge on the finished product. But overall, well done!

    This is a really great video. It would've been better though if you could've talked about where you got your VersaWorks swatch pallet from and how to set that up. The VersWorks manual I have is very old and has instructions only going up to CS3 which is NOT helpful! I eventually figured it out how to add the spot color swatch, but knowing that could've saved me a ton of research time!.

    I can’t find anyone showing how to add cut lines to a graphic that has additional cuts within the image that need cut. How do you do that? I’m assuming you can’t use the unite function that way.

    I've been doing cut paths for my Roland for awhile but have an issue I can't seem to find an easy answer to. I'm not even sure what the correct terms are.
    Do you have any good techniques for adding cut paths with bleeds? I'm talking about the second graphic in your video with multiple colors along the edge without a white border.
    I somehow think some application of offset paths and trapping would somehow work. I know thats not what trapping is used for but it kind of looks like it might work.

    I have versa cam vs 540 I the swatch in Adobe Illustrator says that it is cut contour however when it comes out of the printer it looks like perf cut is there any suggestions to help this problem any help would be greatly appreciated I have called Roland and talk to them and they have just sent me to these videos however I have yet to find how to fix it whether it be perf cut or one smooth continuous line until it comes to a point if needed in the design

      +Shawna Texidor If you are using the normal cut I would suspect your blade may be chipped. You might want to post at www.myversacamm.com on the forum to see if you can get more assistance.

    I have been following these steps - It is an easy Logo oval -I can see the cutline on AI but Versaworks is not picking it up. Do I have to change a setting on Versaworks?

    When I click unite, instead of filling the image it fills a square around the entire image. I basically get a colored square. What am I doing wrong? Thank you

    • @StevenJacksonIW
      @StevenJacksonIW  8 років тому

      when you select unite you need to ensure that if there is a vector or raster box in the background that it is not selected.

    Does someone here happen know to properly print&cut in Versaworks for pixelated images?
    what i do now, is paste the image in Illustrator, draw the cutcountour, but then versaworks doesn' t detect it.. whats the best way to do this, what file types etc?
    sometimes the method i use works, but mostly not. .so im not sure what i do wrong or good

    Most of them are accessed through the window tab at the top of Illustrator. You can pick which windows to have open in your workspace.

    if u don't expand the copied image that is the cutline isn't it possible it will cut into the image??

    • @StevenJacksonIW
      @StevenJacksonIW  9 років тому

      +Jamie Woodley if the image had a stroke associated with the outline it might.

    • @jamiewoodley3821
      @jamiewoodley3821 9 років тому

      Okay so because the outline of the Eagle is a thick and black it won't require the copy and expand process?

  • @vikingpiper
    @vikingpiper 11 років тому

    Ok. I've done all this. I have the actual Roland VersaWorks swatch and am using that to make my cutline. All is well, I get the contour line as I want. When I save as an EPS so I can send the file to my print vendor (who uses Roland versa works) he can see the pink line, but the software isn't seeing it as a cut line. Do I need to name the layer or the stroke as "CUT LINE" or something specific?

    • @juniorisclean
      @juniorisclean 10 років тому

      For what I already know you are supposed to save the file as CutContur if not it won't work. This crap is soooooo dam complicated. Omg. Good luck

    • @mrgarcia707
      @mrgarcia707 9 років тому

      Vikingpiper I've created 1000's of files for cutting, you have to create a spot color make it pink by 255, 255, 0 in RGB then name it "CutContour" and set your 1pt or .25pt stroke to that.

    • @juniorisclean
      @juniorisclean 9 років тому

      It has to specifically be save or typed as (CutContour) both capital C. IF NOT IT WILL NOT WORK.

    • @mrgarcia707
      @mrgarcia707 9 років тому

      exactly

    • @mrgarcia707
      @mrgarcia707 9 років тому

      If all those things are setup and it's still not working there are a few things to watch out for. THE STROKE MUST BE CENTERED, do not have it on the inside or outside. Another thing that can cause it to not work is YOU MUST FLATTEN ALL TRANSPARENCIES, do this by going to the menu up top and flatten all transparencies, just make sure you don't have the CutContour stroke selected.

    Why don't you guys show the actual step after you place the cut line on the image? So? Yea it's ready to cut but HOW? How do you actually cut it? How do you save it to be able to cut it and how does it gets cut in versaworks? Why now show the actual entire proses? It doesn't help if we don't know how to actually cut it, it's ready to cut doesn't mean it's already actually cut.

    • @StevenJacksonIW
      @StevenJacksonIW  9 років тому +1

      Osvaldo Cintron The purpose of the video was to show the setup. Save the file in EPS format. Open the file in Versaworks. Run Versaworks as normal. There are many videos on www.myversacamm.com that show the other steps in the process.

    • @juniorisclean
      @juniorisclean 9 років тому

      I already learn how to actually cut on VersaWorks. Thanks bud.

    • @juniorisclean

      And actually you need to save the file yes on eps format but it must be name CutContour in order to actually cut. Thanks.

    If Versaworks does not display the cutline it could be that you have spot colors being converted on output or that you have the cutline not on the top layer. Send me the Illustrator file and I will take a look at it for you.
