Kevin John Edusei is one of today's most promising young conductors. We met him in Mainz to talk about his experiences as one of the few Black Germans in this field.

Und super, dass ihn mittlerweile solche doofen Sprüche nicht mehr treffen. Das er darüber steht und weiss dass diese Person eigentlich mehr über sich selbst was aussagt.
I agree with everything Kevin said in this video. Just as he does not want to be labeled as Afro-German, I want to be thought of as American and not African-American. Be proud of your country no matter your ethnicity or race. I love this series. Keep up the excellent work, Jermain!
Their heritage is a lot different from that of Black Americans. Unlike Black Americans who are 400 years cut off from Africa, Afro-Germans and others Europeans of African decent are children of African immigrants for the most part. In this guy's case for instance, his last name gives him away. At least one of his parents is Ghanaian. Saying he does not like to be known as Afro-German is like trying to erase what makes him what he is. For Black Americans I can understand when you say you don't want to be called African American but for them it's different
