Keep in mind that the transmission is going to be beefed up a little. Those auto transmissions were built by Audi originally and could handle 90 hp. At 130 hp it might not last long if you overpower it to much.

you are correct. I think it was the 1.8, its been a while since I have worked on the original engine. thanks for the comment. GOOGLE: Power is provided by the 1.8L Type 4 air-cooled VW 4-cylinder that the owner states has never required a rebuild. Factory rated at 67bhp, the engine is currently fitted with an aftermarket 2V intake/carburetor and new custom exhaust system.

Thanks for the sub! The auto trans sway is becoming popular due to the overdrive and reduced engine RPMs, especially at freeway speeds.
That original motor came as 1.7 , 1.8 and a 2.0.
