    For a split moment I thought you were about to say "The key to making a display board is to start painting at 2 AM, sleep deprivation is your friend" xD

    I truly appreciate that you talk about products and often steer people away from modeling branded items. You point out that these things are existing products, and that you let people know where they can find them.
    Honestly, this remains one of my biggest pet peeves with the hobby- paying a premium for a product that is the EXACT same thing but it says 'for miniatures' on the labels.

      I have the same pet peeve with "gaming" stuff. You slap a 'gamers' label on a chair, a desk, a keyboard - maybe throw in some crappy LEDs, and the price shoots up by 50% or more.
      I steer well away from any 'niche branding' product, unless (and ONLY unless) it's impossible to find it outside of that niche.

      The Hobby Tax is real (and not unique to the wargames mini hobby, though definitely one of the more extreme examples)...

    You and Tom did some amazing work. Congrats on the win. I think you hit the nail on the head during Warhammer Weekly with what to do with the display boards after the event, make them out of usable terrain. You can then recycle the big foam chunks for the next board. Maybe if something is too big for AoS, then use it for an rpg or plan to make the structures modular so they can be broken down into separate terrain pieces.

    Also, speaking of working with a buddy, I've been working on a new display board with my daughter and it's been awesome. A lot of it is just an arts and crafts project that kids can totally help a lot. Also my daughter is super creative, so the design is WAY better because we put our heads together

    Very interesting tutorial that covers a subject I hadn’t ever thought about. Lots of good leads on techniques and timelines, and your finished product is gorgeous - congrats to you both! Thanks also for the suggestions about where to find materials that won’t empty our wallets! I always find your videos thoroughly enjoyable and educational. Can’t wait for your next one!

    When it was first shown before the priming I thought that’s too bad they don’t have enough time, that’s what this’ll be about. What you were able to transform it into in basically an 8 hour period is astounding. This looks like something I would guess someone would have put in months worth of time into.
    Congratulations on the win and thank you for the channel.

    Hey Vince, amazing stuff thanks for the video and also the linked products.
    I have a suggestion: I would be very interested in a video explaining your paint storage setup. It seems very optimized for space and organised, would love some insight on that too as I myself im trying to upgrade my hobby space and I am not sure how to make the most out of it.

    Ive spent enough to buy a decent car on Dwarven Forge terrain because I play TTRPGs like D&D and the setups that are possible are just........absurd. Im such a sucker for killer table setups.

    I've got a sensory thing and really can't stand the feel or sound of pink foam (or other similar foam). Anyone know what a good alternative is?
    Great video, as always!

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  9 місяців тому

      This sounds stupid, but there is blue foam, that could work, there is also big plasticard with foam in the middle.

    Hi Vince thanks for the video. For those of us that fly to events instead of drive do you have any recommendations on how to plan/transport a board that is compatible with air travel? I would assume modular, bubble wrap, and checked luggage are the guiding stars but would be interested in hearing your take.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  9 місяців тому +1

      I really don't have any good answers, it's one of the reasons I drive, and one of the things that drives me crazy about the display board race, the difficulty for thos who fly,

    No no no no no no no no no no no no no no to display boards. I have enough to build and paint. What's next? Asking people to compose and perform theme music for their army?

    • @stevenbach312
      @stevenbach312 9 місяців тому

      Great looking board buuuut the figure bases not matching the board's just totally destroys the visual effect of the board . I wanted to see how you went about cutting custom recesses for all the models and matched to their locations.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  9 місяців тому

      I am never a fan of the cut out thing, and its tougher with 2 armies, we can't always match everything together. It's more about the feel where we can.

  • @chicagohobbyhero

  • @Logaan777

    I have to many minis to paint to make a display board, but i think of them all the time. Do you have a shelf to store this for later or what do you do with it after your tournament? Also, why is Tom wearing his shoes in your house?!?!
    Oh, is there a link to see the other boards?
    Edit. Ah, should have waited until the end of the video before asking my question, though you didn't really answer the question.

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  9 місяців тому

      In order.
      1) Storing them is a real problem, I honestly don't have a great answer, I have a shelf, but nothing else.
      2) He doesn't know how to take his shoes off for sure.
      3) Most of the boards I have given away over time, I try to upcycle them into terrain or something helpful for tables where I can.

    Great video Vince! If I ever finish an army I would love to have some type of display board in the cabinet where figures slot into.

    I wanted indeed to ask the question of ho you transport such a board and store it later...

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  9 місяців тому +1

      Transport is drive only, air travel is tough. Storage, you basically just get some big shelves, it's annoying for sure.

  • @chidaddywbz

    Amazing video as always! Question regarding displayboards, have you found it difficult to make display boards that look great with rank and flank armies?
    Im working on a dwarves army for kings of war and the old world and having a hard time thinking of a board with verticality since all my dudes are on movement trays

    • @VinceVenturella
      @VinceVenturella  9 місяців тому

      Many of the early boards I made were for R&F armies, in general, you just want more flat areas on all the levels.
